Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean (born January 19, 1946) is an American singer-songwriter, actress, author, businesswoman, and humanitarian, known primarily for her work in country music. Her career began as a child performer on the Cas Walker radio show, then recording a few singles from the age of 13. Relocating to Nashville at age 18 in 1964, her first commercial successes were as a songwriter (her songs during this period were covered by numerous artists, including Bill Phillips and Kitty Wells). She rose to prominence in 1967 as a featured performer on singer Porter Wagoner's weekly syndicated TV program; their first duet single, a cover of Tom Paxton's "The Last Thing on My Mind", was a top-ten hit on the country singles chart and led to several successful albums before they ended their partnership in 1974. Moving towards mainstream pop music, her 1977 single "Here You Come Again" was a success on both the country and pop charts. A string of pop-country hits followed into the mid-1980s, the most successful being her 1980 hit "9 to 5" (from the film of the same name) and her 1983 duet with Kenny Rogers "Islands in the Stream", both of which topped the U.S. pop and country singles charts. A pair of albums recorded with Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris were among her later successes. In the late 1990s, she returned to classic country/bluegrass with a series of acclaimed recordings. Non-musical ventures include Dollywood, a theme park in Pigeon Forge in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, and her efforts on behalf of childhood literacy, particularly her Imagination Library, as well as Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede and Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show.
Little Sparrow is the 36th studio album by Dolly Parton, the second in Parton's trilogy of folk/bluegrass albums released between 1999 and 2002.
While The Grass Is Blue from 1999, the album's predecessor, featured straightforward bluegrass, Little Sparrow — released in early 2001 — featured a blend of Appalachian folk, bluegrass and country gospel styles. Each of the musical styles is a notable part of the culture from Parton's East Tennessee upbringing. In addition to a number of traditional songs and Parton's own compositions, the album featured a reworkings of the Collective Soul hit "Shine" and the Restless Heart hit "A Tender Lie," as well as a bluegrass version of Cole Porter's "I Get a Kick Out of You". The album received positive reviews and reached number 12 on the U.S. country albums chart, Parton's highest charting solo album in nearly a decade. The album was dedicated to the memory of Dolly's father, Lee Parton.
Among the backing musicians were members of the alternative bluegrass band Nickel Creek, Alison Krauss, and members of Irish Traditional band Altan, whose singer, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh sung Irish Gaelic vocals on the album.
"Come All You Fair and Tender Ladies" (aka "Tiny Sparrow" or "Little Sparrow") (Roud #451) is an American folk music ballad, originating from the Appalachian region. It has been recorded under either of its two title variations by numerous artists, including The Carter Family, Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, Odetta, Peter, Paul and Mary, The Kingston Trio, Leon Bibb, Makem and Clancy, Emmylou Harris, Bob Dylan, Dave Van Ronk, The Rankin Family, The Country Gentlemen, and Dolly Parton. The title of the song varies from recording to recording and prior to the 1960s, the song was usually known as "Tiny Sparrow" or "Little Sparrow". Some versions substituted the "Sparrow" with "Swallow," another form of species of bird. (SOURCE: Pete Seeger version of the song). In more recent times, the song's title sometimes finds "Maidens" substituted for "Ladies," and "Come All Ye" or "Come All You" sometimes omitted.
In 2010, Marideth Sisco performed a portion of the song in the film Winter's Bone.

Dolly Parton performs "I Will Always Love You" http://vevo.ly/s8Tsr0
Dolly Parton is mourning the passing of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean. "Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can't do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy," Parton posted. She once told Johnny Carson they met at a laundromat the very day she moved to Nashville in 1964. Her hit song "Jolene" was inspired by an incident where Parton says a bank teller was flirting with her husband.

To everyone wanting to know if this is a reference to "JoJo": No, the Japanese series was developed in 1986, but Dolly wrote and recorded "Jolene" in 1973. The audio/video quality is pretty good for having come from a VHS tape recorded in 1988, if I do say so myself! :-) "Thanks" to those who have agreed!

The studio track of David Cook's take on "Little Sparrow".
This is Kosmic Blues' first single and, in the same time, first video release. The song is a tribute to Ella Jenkins, dubbed "The first Lady of the Children Folk Song". Kosmic Blues brings to the present the strong messages of this "forgotten old treasure" and revives it in its own interpretation. The video was produced using a "shadow theatre" technique that was chosen by the band as the best way, drama wise, to express the strong emotions that are carried by their song. Run that by me one more time to make sure that I heard you right
I hope you don't expect me to believe that line
I might be crazy but I ain't dumb and I know a lie when I hear one
Would you run that by me one more time
Well you're late again I see what's your excuse this time
Don't try to kiss and make up when you smell so strong from wine
Well I'm not late the clock is wrong you need to wind Big Ben
Honey that's not wine you smell that's aftershave for men
Would you run that by me one more time
Run that by me one more time...
[ steel ]
What happened to the money I gave you to pay the rent
The rent is overdue and we ain't got one red cent
Well I put it in the cookie jar that day you brought it home
One day when I come back from town
I'll be dogged if that money wasn't gone
Ha ha would you run that by me one more time
Run that by me one more time...
You keep drinkin' that aftershave it's gonna kill you if I'm lucky
You spent that money didn't you
I didn't spend it I oughta box your jaws
Oh you'd hit your mom before you hit me
Would you run that by me one more time run that by me one more time
I don't want to run that by you one more time
