A regional municipality (or region) is a type of Canadian municipal government similar to and at the same municipal government level as a county, although the specific structure and servicing responsibilities may vary from place to place. Regional municipalities were formed in highly populated areas where it was considered more efficient to provide certain services, such as water, emergency services, and waste management over an area encompassing more than one local municipality. For this reason, regions may be involved in providing services to residents and businesses.
Regional municipalities, where they include smaller municipalities within their boundaries, are sometimes referred to as "upper-tier" municipalities. Regional municipalities generally have more servicing responsibilities than counties. Typical services include maintenance and construction of arterial roads, transit, policing, sewer and water systems, waste disposal, region-wide land-use planning and development and health and social services.
Halifax is considered a global city and is a major economic centre in eastern Canada with a large concentration of government services and private sector companies. Major employers and economic generators include the Department of National Defence, Dalhousie University, the Halifax Shipyard, various levels of government, and the Port of Halifax. Agriculture, fishing, mining, forestry and natural gas extraction are major resource industries found in the rural areas of the municipality. Halifax was ranked by MoneySense magazine as the fourth best place to live in Canada for 2012, placed first on a list of "large cities by quality of life" and placed second in a list of "large cities of the future", both conducted by fDi Magazine for North and South American cities. Additionally, Halifax has consistently placed in the top 10 for business friendliness of North and South American cities, as conducted by fDi Magazine.

Recognizing the Regional Municipality of York - April 20th, 2023
I rise today, proud to represent my community of Newmarket—Aurora and, most important, the broader community of York Region. Home to nine municipalities and over 1.2 million residents, York Region is one of the largest municipalities in Canada.
As a former mayor of Newmarket, I know how important it is for all levels of government to work collaboratively and in partnership with one another. When we work together effectively, we can produce something more significant than any one of us could accomplish on our own.
I want to thank Wayne Emmerson, the chair of the Regional Municipality of York, his staff and their mayors for coming to Ottawa to share their priorities, their issues, their concerns and the opportunities with our government.

How To Govern Ontario's Regions
Last year, the PC government announced it would be reviewing several Ontario regions to determine whether the five-decades-old lines needed to be re-drawn to help municipalities deliver services effectively. A report was commissioned and delivered, but then the government shelved it without announcing or implementing any of the recommendations. The Agenda discusses the state of the regions and what some mayors would like to see change.

We're back in our home city of Halifax! In this video we're talking about how Halifax has changed since the last time we were here (a year ago). We make our way though downtown Halifax and talk about all sorts of things that have changed (or not), from cost of living/prices to infrastructure to transit and community. We also talk about health care, the weather and our favourite topic, the food!
As we visit the city for a couple of days we also give you a tour of the amazing hotel we're staying The Prince George (one of our favourite hotels in downtown Halifax). We also eat at their restaurant Gio, which has some of the best upscale food in the city.

~~~ Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo ~~~
Title: What is Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo?, Explain Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo
Created on: 2018-10-25
Source Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regional_Municipality_of_Wood_Buffalo
------
Description: The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is a specialized municipality located in northeastern Alberta. Formed as a result of the amalgamation of the City of Fort McMurray and Improvement District No. 143 on April 1, 1995, it is the second largest municipality in Alberta by area. It is home to vast oil sand deposits, also known as the Athabasca oil sands, helping to make the region one of the fastest growing industrial areas in Canada. Until the Alberta electoral boundary re-distribution of 2004, the municipality was divided between the provincial electoral districts of Fort McMurray and Athabasca-Wabasca . The re-distribution amalgamated the municipality into a single electoral district covering the entire municipality. As a result, the new Wood Buffalo electoral district became the most populous such district in Alberta.
Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.
SUMMARY
=======
A regional municipality (or region) is a type of Canadian municipal government similar to and at the same municipal government level as a county, although the specific structure and servicing responsibilities may vary from place to place. Regional municipalities were formed in highly populated areas where it was considered more efficient to provide certain services, such as water, emergency services, and waste management over an area encompassing more than one local municipality. For this reason, regions may be involved in providing services to residents and businesses.
Regional municipalities, where they include smaller municipalities within their boundaries, are sometimes referred to as "upper-tier" municipalities. Regional municipalities generally have more servicing responsibilities than counties. Typical services include maintenance and construction of arterial roads (including in urban areas, where counties do not), transit, policing, sewer and water systems, waste disposal, region-wide land-use planning and development and health and social services.
Regions are typically more urbanized than counties. Regional municipalities are usually implemented in census divisions where an interconnected cluster of urban centres forms the majority of the division's area and population.
I rise today, proud to represent my community of Newmarket—Aurora and, most important, the broader community of York Region. Home to nine municipalities and over 1.2 million residents, York Region is one of the largest municipalities in Canada.
As a former mayor of Newmarket, I know how important it is for all levels of government to work collaboratively and in partnership with one another. When we work together effectively, we can produce something more significant than any one of us could accomplish on our own.
I want to thank Wayne Emmerson, the chair of the Regional Municipality of York, his staff and their mayors for coming to Ottawa to share their priorities, their issues, their concerns and the opportunities with our government.
Let us continue to work together and accomplish the best for our communities.
Last year, the PC government announced it would be reviewing several Ontario regions to determine whether the five-decades-old lines needed to be re-drawn to help municipalities deliver services effectively. A report was commissioned and delivered, but then the government shelved it without announcing or implementing any of the recommendations. The Agenda discusses the state of the regions and what some mayors would like to see change.
Halifax has SO MUCH to offer! I deeply regretted scheduling only 1 day to explore this amazing city because there was a lot more to see and do. But nevertheless, you can see quite a bit of the city in 24hrs, so join me and Ryan on our adventures of trying out some of the best restaurants in the city and visiting top attractions like the Waterfront, Maritime Museum, Pier 21 and Alexander Keith's Brewery!
A big thank you to Discover Halifax for giving us some attraction passes and restaurant meals! Check out their website down below for more great recommendations in Halifax: https://discoverhalifaxns.com/
We're back in our home city of Halifax! In this video we're talking about how Halifax has changed since the last time we were here (a year ago). We make our way though downtown Halifax and talk about all sorts of things that have changed (or not), from cost of living/prices to infrastructure to transit and community. We also talk about health care, the weather and our favourite topic, the food!
As we visit the city for a couple of days we also give you a tour of the amazing hotel we're staying The Prince George (one of our favourite hotels in downtown Halifax). We also eat at their restaurant Gio, which has some of the best upscale food in the city.
