What Was Crassus Thinking? - The "fool" of Carrhae
Today I wanted to take a closer look at the common narrative that Crassus was a bumbling idiot who caused the disaster of Carrhae. What was he thinking! Today we will attempt to reconstruct his chain of decisions to determine if they really were misguided.

The Bizarre Life Of The Man Who Killed Spartacus
Spartacus is a historical figure who is often celebrated as a symbol against oppression. He is a figure that is also popular in pop culture, and Stanley Kubrick’s 1960 movie about the rebellious gladiator has forever etched the phrase “I’m Spartacus” into the history of cinema. But what about the historical figure that killed Spartacus, Marcus Crassus? He is often depicted as the villain in stories about Spartacus. But what is the real truth about the richest man in Rome at the time and the man who crushed the rebellion led by Spartacus? How did he make his vast fortune and how did he rise to power in Rome? Inside The Billionaire Lifestyle Of The Richest Man In Rome
Forget Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk; let’s go way back into history and introduce you to Marcus Licinius Crassus, the richest man in Rome in 60 B.C. Bet you didn’t know there were billionaires back then, as printing money wasn't even a thing and there was no Forbes estimating the ancient billionaires’ wealth.
But as Cersie Lannister once said in Game of Thrones, ‘Power is power.’ That’s what you only need to know about how Marcus became the wealthiest man in ancient Rome.
The Roman Empire was the most powerful economic force that has ever existed. Throughout the empire, there were regional markets, but the idea of marketing didn’t exist and there wasn’t an entrepreneurial environment. What did exist was a culture of greed — all about becoming wealthy — that continues till date, no offense to the current mega-billionaires.
Talking about Marcus, he was a 1st century B.C. Roman statesman and general. He conquered, stole and plundered his way to the top of the empire. He used to spend lavishly when he needed to buy himself into the political arena. He had already become wealthy through the slave trade and used his money to gain power amongst the ruling class. When Marcus Licinius Crassus was alive, you didn't have to be born rich - you could make yourself a lot richer by becoming politically powerful. And his life is proof.
