A lieutenant governor, lieutenant-governor, or vice governor is a high officer of state, whose precise role and rank vary by jurisdiction, but is often the deputy or lieutenant to or ranking under a governor — a "second-in-command". In many Commonwealth of Nations states, a lieutenant governor is the representative of the monarch and acts as the nominal chief executive officer of the realm, although by convention the lieutenant governor delegates actual executive power to the premier of a province. The Dutch political system also includes and has included lieutenant governors, who act as executors of overseas possessions. In India, lieutenant governors are in charge of special administrative divisions in that country.
In the United States, lieutenant governors are usually second-in-command to a state governor, and the actual power held by the lieutenant governor varies greatly from state to state.
In Canada, a lieutenant governor (/lɛfˈtɛnənt/; French [masculine]: lieutenant-gouverneur, or [feminine]: lieutenant-gouverneure) is the viceregal representative in a provincial jurisdiction of the Canadian monarchand head of state, QueenElizabeth II, who resides predominantly in her oldest realm, the United Kingdom. On the advice of his or her prime minister, the Governor General of Canada appoints the lieutenant governors to carry out most of the monarch's constitutional and ceremonial duties for an unfixed period of time—known as serving at His Excellency's pleasure—though five years is the normal convention. Similar positions in Canada's three territories are termed Commissioners and are representatives of the federal government, however, not the monarch directly.
The offices have their roots in the 16th and 17th century colonial governors of New France and British North America, though the present incarnations of the positions emerged with Canadian Confederation and the British North America Act in 1867, which defined the viceregal offices as the "Lieutenant Governor of the Province acting by and with the Advice the Executive Council thereof." However, the posts still ultimately represented the government of Canada (that is, the Governor-General-in-Council) until the ruling in 1882 of the Lord Watson of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in the case of Maritime Bank v. Receiver-General of New Brunswick, whereafter the lieutenant governors were recognized as the direct representatives of the monarch. Per the Constitution Act, 1982, any constitutional amendment that affects the Crown, including the Offices of the lieutenant governors, requires the unanimous consent of each provincial legislature as well as the federal parliament.
In Australia, a Lieutenant-Governor is a standing appointment for a deputy Governor of a State, who acts in place of the Governor if the Governor is unable, unavailable or unwilling to act.
Constitutionally, Australian State Lieutenant-Governors, Administrators and Chief Justices of State Supreme Courts are normally separate offices. However, in many States, such as New South Wales, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is also the Lieutenant-Governor. In 2001, the Constitution of Queensland was amended to restore the office of Lieutenant-Governor in that state. When a State Governor dies, resigns, or is absent, an Administrator, or acting Governor, would be appointed. In the case of State Governors this officer may either be an "Administrator" or the "Lieutenant-Governor". The State Lieutenant-Governors/Administrators have no standing powers but stand ready to take up the Governor's role.
In some states, there is also a standing Deputy Governor, who can exercise only the powers which the Governor delegates to him or her.
This is a list of past and present Senators of Canada representing the province of Ontario. Ontario has had an allocation of 24 senators since the time of Confederation. The province is also one of four regional Senate divisions under Section 26 of the Constitution Act that allows for the expansion of the Senate by one or two senators per region.

The Ontario silver mine is a mine near Park City, Utah. It was purchased by George Hearst through R C Chambers from prospectors for $27,000 in 1872.
Hearst and his business partners James Ben Ali Haggin and Lloyd Tevis owned this mine and constructed the necessary infrastructure to make it productive, including hoists and stamp mill. The mine was not profitable for its first three years. According to legend, expenses of development substantially drained Hearst's financial resources. As a result of his straitened circumstances, Hearst sold his home and horses, and even dismissed his servants and enrolled his son William Randolph Hearst in public school. Chambers, who had been retained as manager, brought the bonanza ore body into production by the late 1870s. It eventually produced fifty million dollars worth of silver and lead.
By the time of Hearst's death in 1891, the Ontario mine had paid him more than $12 million in dividends. This was only one of the four big mines he had brought in in the West, including the Ophir on the Comstock Lode, the Homestake Mine (Nevada), and the Anaconda Copper Mine (Montana). The mine also made manager Chambers one of Utah's Bonanza Kings.
