What is Letterboxing? Stamps, Treasure Hunting, and Older than Geocaching!
If your family likes exploring treasure hunting and creative expression, then they're going to love letterboxing. Letterboxing is a form of treasure hunting that utilizes clues that are found on the internet. Parents can visit letterboxing.org to experience a scavenger hunt all over Rhode Island, New England or the World. You look for different destinations and it'll give you clues. Once a letterbox is found, treasure hunters stamp the inside of their journal with a stamp from the letterbox. After that, write in the dates and where the letterbox was found. Letterboxing is meant to be an environmentally friendly activity. Online: http://www.letterboxing.org http://www.atlasquest.com/

Like geocaching, letterboxing involves finding a container in a hidden location. But rather than reaching certain coordinates with a GPS, you find the letterbox by following written clues. Some of them say things like, "Turn left at the large tree stump." Others might be a bit more cryptic.Aug

LEARN ABOUT GEOCACHING HERE!
Geocaching is a fun and rewarding hobby that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels. For those who are new to geocaching, the prospect of finding hidden treasures in the great outdoors can be an exciting experience. However, it can also be a bit intimidating, especially for those who are unfamiliar with the hobby or don't know where to start. Here are some tips on how new geocachers, or "muggles," can get involved with geocaching:
1. Create an account on a geocaching website or app: The first step to getting involved with geocaching is to create an account on either Geocaching.com or the Geocaching app. This will give you access to a database of caches that have been hidden by other geocachers in your area. The free version allows access to limited caches, but you can upgrade to Premium to gain access to all geocaches!
2. Find a cache near you: Once you've created your account, use the search function to find a cache near you. You can filter your search by location, difficulty, and terrain, depending on your preferences.
3. Read the cache description: Before you head out to search for a cache, be sure to read the cache description carefully. This will give you important information about the cache, including its location, difficulty level, and any hints that might help you find it.
4. Bring a pen and some trinkets to trade: When you find a cache, be sure to sign the logbook and leave a trinket if you have one to trade. This is a fun way to participate in the geocaching community and leave your mark on the cache.
5. Follow the geocaching etiquette: As you get more involved with geocaching, it's important to follow the etiquette of the hobby. This includes leaving the cache exactly as you found it, respecting private property, and being mindful of other geocachers and muggles who may be in the area.
If you want to learn more about getting involved with the geocaching community, you can subscribe to Hullsome on YouTube and follow me on TikTok and Instagram. Between watching my videos and following the steps above, you can quickly become a pro and experience all the thrill and excitement that geocaching has to offer!

Welcome to The Last Green Valley Letterboxing Challenge! What is letterboxing? Letterboxing is a form of treasure hunting that rewards the hunter with unique stamped images as a memento of each find. Letterboxing started in the United States around 1998 after Smithsonian Magazine wrote about the letterboxes in Dartmoor England.
Letterboxing is a great way to get outdoors and explore new places. Fellow letterboxers will plant boxes and then post the clues on the internet for others to find. The clues can be simple directions or more challenging puzzles and ciphers. Once you have your clues, all you need to go letterboxing is your own personal stamp, your own personal logbook the record the images you find and ink pads or broad tip markers for the image. Many clues tell you what color ink to bring, so read the clues carefully before you go. Do not have your own stamp? It is perfectly fine to use a small doodle or even a thumb print animal as your signature. And your logbook? It can just be a simple ruled notebook, but most letterboxers prefer to use unlined artist’s sketch pads. For this challenge you may request a starter logbook from TLGV.
Remember, you are on a treasure hunt, so stealth is important. Do not let others around you know what you are up to and do not give away the location of the box! When replacing the box, make sure it goes back where it belongs and that it cannot be seen from the trail. Make sure the baggies and the box are well sealed so there is no water damage.
Now for the Challenge! A group of letterboxers have planted 8 letterboxes in The Last Green Valley. If you can find four of them we will give you a patch. The clues are below. Some of these are nice hikes, others are short walks. When you find a box, make an impression of the stamp in your logbook and put your stamp in the box’s logbook. Make sure you record the date next the each stamp! When you have collected of these stamps, send a picture of the four stamps and the dates you found them, to TLGV with your name and address and we will mail you the patch! There is no time limit on completing this challenge and our goal is to keep adding boxes to the list.
Before you go, make sure to check out the locations you will be visiting. There may be other things to do at the park while you are there. There may also be more letterboxes in the same area.

If you head south on I-495 in Massachusetts, cross the Bourne Bridge onto Cape Cod. Take Route 28 off the rotary and stay on 28 through the next rotary all the way to Falmouth. At the fork, go right on Woods Hole Road. At the traffic light, turn right onto Quissett Harbor Road. It dead-ends at the harbor. Park in the small parking lot on the far side. There is a sign near the water introducing you to the Knob.
