Leif Gustav Willy Persson (born 12 March 1945 in Stockholm) is a Swedish criminologist and novelist. He was a professor in criminology at the Swedish National Police Board from 1992 to 2012. He is known for his crime fiction novels and for his regular appearances as an expert commentator on notable crime cases in television and newspapers. Between 1999 and 2009, he participated as an expert commentator on the television show Efterlyst on TV3. Nowadays he participates in the television show Veckans Brott with Camilla Kvartoft, which is primarily about unsolved Swedish criminal cases.
In 1977, while working at the Swedish National Police Board, Persson was the whistleblower who worked with journalist Peter Bratt in the so-called Geijer Scandal when he confirmed a classified memo sent by then National Police Commissioner Carl Persson to Prime Minister Olof Palme about the alleged ties of the Minister of Justice, Lennart Geijer, to a prostitution ring in Stockholm. Following this affair he was fired from the National Police Board. The string of events almost drove Persson to suicide, but he soon returned as lecturer at Stockholm University. The prostitution ring affair inspired him to write his first novel, Grisfesten. He returned as a professor at the National Police Board in 1992.

This is a list of digraphs used in various Latin alphabets. Capitalization involves only the first letter (ch – Ch) unless otherwise stated (ij – IJ).
Letters with diacritics are arranged in alphabetic order according to their base. That is, ⟨å⟩ is alphabetized with ⟨a⟩, not at the end of the alphabet as it would be in Norwegian, Swedish and Danish. Substantially modified letters such as ⟨ſ ⟩ (a variant of ⟨s⟩) and ⟨ɔ⟩ (based on ⟨o⟩) are placed at the end.
⟨’b⟩ (capital ⟨’B⟩) is used in the Bari alphabet for /ɓ/.
⟨’d⟩ (capital ⟨’D⟩) is used in the Bari alphabet for /ɗ/.
⟨’y⟩ (capital ⟨’Y⟩) is used in the Bari alphabet for /ʔʲ/. It is also used for this sound in the Hausa language in Nigeria, but in Niger, Hausa ⟨’y⟩ is replaced with ⟨ƴ ⟩.
⟨a’⟩ is used in Taa orthography, where it represents the glottalized or creaky-voiced vowel /a̰/.
⟨aa⟩ is used in the orthographies of Dutch, Finnish and other languages with phonemic long vowels for /aː/. It was formerly used in Danish and Norwegian (and still is in some proper names) for the sound /ɔ/, now spelled ⟨å⟩.
Gulf and Western Industries, Inc., (also styled as Gulf+Western) was an American conglomerate.
Gulf and Western's origins date to a manufacturer named the Michigan Bumper Company founded in 1934, although Charles Bluhdorn treated his 1958 takeover of what was then Michigan Plating and Stamping, as its "founding" for the purpose of later anniversaries.
Under Bluhdorn the company diversified widely, leaving behind such things as stamping metal bumpers for a variety of businesses, including Financial Services, Manufacturing, Apparel & Home, Consumer & Agricultural, Auto Parts, Natural Resources & Building Products, Entertainment and Publishing. A partial list of Gulf & Western's holdings between 1958 and 1982, with year of acquisition in parentheses:
Leif is a male given name of Scandinavian origin. It is derived from the Old Norse name Leifr (nominative case), meaning "heir", "descendant", "beloved", "lucky".
Across the Nordic countries, the most commonly occurring spelling of the name is Leif, however, there are some well-established regional variants:
In Norway, about 17,000 men have Leif as their first (or only) name. In Sweden, 70,000 men have the name Leif, about 60% of them as a first name. As of 2008, about 18,000 Danish men have Leif as their first name. In Finland, as of 2012, 4,628 men have Leif as a first name. In U.S, as of 2015, 6,415 men have Leif as a first name.
Although common in the Nordic countries, the name Leif has declined in use since the 1950s. Because of this, the name has become associated with an older generation throughout the region.
Because the Scandinavian languages differ in their pronunciation of the digraphs ⟨ei⟩ and ⟨ej⟩, the name Leif may be either pronounced approximately like the English word "life", or as an approximate rhyme for "safe". In Denmark, much of Norway, and the southern and western regions of the Faroe Islands the name is pronounced more like "life", while in Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Western Norway it is an approximate rhyme with "safe". The only exception to this pattern is in the northern and eastern regions of the Faroe Islands where it is an approximate rhyme with the English word "coif". In no region is the name pronounced like the most commonly heard English pronunciation, "leaf", as that would be a homophone of the unrelated female name Liv/Lif.
Leif is a 1987 Swedish comedy film directed by Claes Eriksson and the first to star the members of Galenskaparna och After Shave.
Gunnar Volt (Anders Eriksson), the head of the weapons factory Kanoner & Krut ("Cannons & Gunpowder") in the small community of Rotum plans for the upcoming demonstration of a new weapon called "The Fighting Egg". However, this is interrupted by an article in the local newspaper where the signature Leif claims that the company engaged in the illegal arms trade. The name Rotum spelled backwards is mutor, which is the Swedish word for bribes. When Inspector Mård (Peter Rangmar) and his assistant Nilsson (Jan Rippe), two police officers from Stockholm, comes to the town hell breaks out. At the same time two Iranians arrives to the office to close a deal, when the police knocks at the door. Volt, the deputy directors Max Kroger (Claes Eriksson) and Rambo (Knut Agnred) flees through the window with the Iranians. After stealing some clothes they head to Volt's brother Håkan (Per Fritzell), which operates in the entertainment industry.

The Latin alphabet is used by more people, for more languages, and in more contexts than any other script in human history. This lecture explains the spread of the Latin alphabet and the linguistic consequences of transferring it to languages other than Latin, with a special focus on English spelling. The lecture is delivered by Distinguished Professor Ingrid Piller as part of the postgraduate unit "Literacies" in Macquarie University's Applied Linguistics program. A written version of some of the content in this lecture can be found at https://www.languageonthemove.com/is-english-spelling-an-insult-to-human-intelligence/ Note error on Slide 2: “日本人” (nihonjin) means "Japanese person", the Japanese language is called “日本語” (nihongo)

I announce my plans for redrawing the alphabet, and my motives for doing so, and begin by organizing the Latin alphabet plus three Cyrillic letters into what I’m calling a “simplified phonetic chart”. At the end of the video, I mentioned how I realized that this chart excludes the "th" and "ng" sounds. The following outlines my plans for how I plan to represent these sounds in my alphabet: I did some research and found that this is how these sounds are represented in all three major alphabets: - Latin: For "th", the Latin alphabet has the letters thorn (Þþ) and eth (Ðð) used in Icelandic and a few old languages, but other than that the digraph ...

Digraph (orthography) A digraph or digram from the Greek: δίς dís, "double" and γράφω gráphō, "to write" is a pair of characters used in the orthography of a language to write either a single phoneme distinct sound, or a sequence of phonemes that does not correspond to the normal values of the two characters combined Digraphs are often used for phonemes that cannot be represented using a single character, like the English sh in ship and fish In other cases they may be relics from an earlier period of the language when they had a different pronunciation, or represent a distinction which is made only in certain dialects, like English wh They may also be used for purely etymological reasons, like rh in English Digraphs are used in some Romanization schemes, like the zh often used to represent...
By applying the principles of Latin Paleography to the writing system of the Voynich Manuscript (Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library MS 408), it is possible to identify distinguishing features of individual scribes. This lecture explains the principles of Latin paleography and demonstrates how these principles can be profitably applied to the writing system of the Voynich Manuscript in order to 1) distinguish different scribal hands; 2) identify the scribal output of each hand; and 3) potentially identify abbreviations and ligatures in the writing system. The implications of these conclusions for current and future research on the Voynich Manuscript are discussed as well. This paper may be downloaded here: https://ceur-ws.org/Vol-3313/keynote2.pdf
