Leadhills, originally settled for the accommodation of miners, is a village in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, 53⁄4 miles (9.3km) WSW of Elvanfoot. Population (1901) 835. Originally known as Waterhead,
It is the second highest village in Scotland at an average height of 1,460 feet (450m) above sea-level (although the Ordnance Survey are currently remeasuring the height of the village and neighbouring Wanlockhead as it is now thought Leadhills is the lower of the two), near the source of Glengonnar Water, an affluent of the River Clyde.

Library
The Leadhills Miners' Library (also known as the Allan Ramsay Library or the Leadhills Reading Society), founded in 1741 by 21 miners, the local schoolteacher and the local minister, specifically to purchase a collection of books for its members’ mutual improvement — its membership was not restricted to the miners; several non-miners, such as William Symington, John Brown (author of Rab and his Friends) and James Braid, were also full members — houses an extensive antiquarian book collection, local relics, mining records and minerals. The library is the oldest subscription library in the British Isles; and is of significant historical and geological importance.
And it wasn't where we thought! The Wanlockhead and Leadhills Railway, PLUS a wee Polish bonus...

Leadhills & Wanlockhead Railway
At 1500 feet above sea level, a mid-December day in the Lowther Hills was icy cold, extremely windy and occasionally wet. However, the Leadhills and Wanlockhead Railway, run by a small group of dedicated enthusiasts, has a limited number of operating days so I couldn't afford to be choosy about the weather.
Plans are afoot to extend this short line across the border from Strathclyde into Dumfries and Galloway to the historic lead-mining community of Wanlockhead, Scotland's highest village with spectacular surroundings, its mine open to the public, its row of historic miners' cottages, lead-mining museum, miners' library - and the country's highest pub for good measure!
Not your usual narrow-gauge railway - but well worth a visit.

The geology of leadhills - Scotland - hematite
A wee adventure at Leadhills the day to find some Hematite. Hematite is a naturally occurring mineral form of iron oxide with the chemical formula Fe₂O₃. It is one of the most abundant and important iron ores and is widely used as a source of iron in steelmaking and that. Hematite is recognized by its metallic to earthy luster and its characteristic reddish-brown streak when scratched across a porcelain streak plate. #geology #geologist #scottishgeology #scottishgeologist #reelsaboutrocks #tiktocksaboutrocks #nature #rocks

In Today's vlog, we explore the area of the Leadhills and local areas which are a must-see to anyone who is looking at exploring mainland Scotland.
We see some of the amazing listed buildings in the Leadhills like the curfew bell, We then head off to Wanlockhead and go for a walk to see all the old mines and beautiful landscape in Scotland's highest town. This is followed by checking out Mennock Pass where I get some amazing drone shots of the area.

You've got your little ways to hurt me You know just how to tear me up And leave me in small pieces on the ground You've got your little ways to hurt me They're not too big but they're real tough Just one cold look from you can knock me down To look at you and me, no one would ever know The pain that I've endured 'cause I won't let it show My friends would laugh out loud if they only knew The truth about how I am just your lovesick fool 'Cause you've got your little ways to hurt me You know just how to tear me up And leave me in small pieces on the ground And you've got your little ways to hurt me They're not too big but they're real tough Just one cold look from you can knock me down The sadness in my eyes should somehow be a clue But no one here would ever suspect sweet little you There've been rumors of the truth but I've kept it quiet 'Cause I'm too ashamed to let them know you make me cry And you've got your little ways to hurt me You know just how to tear me up And leave me in small pieces on the ground You've got your little ways to hurt me They're not too big but they're real tough Just one cold look from you can knock me down
