Latin Quarter are a Britishband formed in 1983. They were popular in Germany and northern Europe and had one top 20 single in the United Kingdom. They originally split up in 1990, but re-formed in 2011. The band toured Germany in early 2012 and have released a new album Tilt in 2014. Their sound mixes elements of pop, rock, reggae and folk with largely political based lyrics.
Career
Latin Quarter were formed in late 1983 by Steve Skaith and Mike Jones who were both members of the left wing political group Big Flame. Their political viewpoint is often reflected in the choice of subject matter and lyrics of Latin Quarter's output. Jones describes their first album Modern Times as "a veritable manifesto". After low sales of their third album in the UK, the next three were only released in continental Europe and Jones claims they were the only western pop act to release a contemporary album in East Germany.
They released a total of six studio albums plus two compilations during their first incarnation, and achieved chart success with the single "Radio Africa", which reached number 19 in the UK Singles Chart. The line-up in 1986 was Steve Skaith (main vocals, guitar), Richard Wright (guitar, vocals), Michael Jones (lyrics, some backing vocals), Greg Harewood (bass), Yona Dunsford (vocals, keyboards), Carole Douet (vocals, percussion), Martin Lascelles (keyboards) and Dave Charles (drums).
The area gets its name from the Latin language, which was once widely spoken in and around the University since Latin was the language of learning in the Middle Ages in Europe.
The Latin Quarter (Quartier Latin) is a part of the 5th arrondissement of Paris, France. It is named after the Sorbonne University and other medieval schools where the teaching language was Latin.
Little Havana is noted as a center of social, cultural, and political activity in Miami. Its festivals, including the Calle Ocho Festival, Viernes Culturales/Cultural Fridays, the Three Kings Parade and others, have been televised to millions of people every year on different continents. It is also known for its landmarks, including Calle Ocho (SW 8th Street/Tamiami Trail), and its Walk of Fame (for famous artists and Latin personalities, including Celia Cruz, Willy Chirino, and Gloria Estefan), the Cuban Memorial Boulevard, Plaza de la Cubanidad, Domino Park, the Tower Theater, Jose Marti Park, the Firestone/Walgreens Building, St. John Bosco Catholic Church, Municipio de Santiago de Cuba and others.
Little Havana is the best known neighborhood for Cuban exiles in the world. It is characterized by its street life, with restaurants, music and other cultural activities, mom and pop enterprises, political passion, and great warmth amongst its residents.

I'm hearing only bad news from Radio Africa
They've still got trouble with a monster in the South
Heads buried deep in that lion's mouth
Like a jaw snapped shut, it keeps them apart
If that jaw got broke it would be a start
The West still complains about the foreign aid
They'd do better to change the terms of trade
More tanks than food in the Ogaden
It looks like Moscow got it wrong again
Mozambique and Mugabe
Still got Frelimo I hear them say

This was all that was broadcast (I haven't edited it) - maybe the rest of the song was too spicy for British TV of the time? :-)
Live at the Town and Country and broadcast as part of Anglia TV's "Cue The Music" late-night concert series. Broadcast some time between 1989 - 1991 but the song choices point towards '85 - '86 ("Modern Times" era) as the likely concert date.

LYRICS "New Millionaires"
You can spend a cheque in a morning
And go hungry the same afternoon.
Sometimes the only quarters between you and a rainstorm
Are the quarters of the moon.
You know for every one way to sit up
There must be five hundred ways to beg.
And how can you ever be a man of standing
With a chain wrapped around your legs.
Just like Arbogast on the top two stairs
You're waiting for a carver to come cutting through your cares.
Living on your savings, saving up your prayers
Come on down, the new millionaires.
The famous say walk in their footsteps
But don't you go tread on their toes.
And if you wait for luck to open up

MAGA: A Very Stable Genius - Latin Quarter
This song needs little introduction. The level of Trump's boorish ignorance and his awful racism and sexism, all wrapped up in an infantile narcissism and self-delusion, makes him not only a terrible president but probably the worst human being you can imagine, (this side of mass murderers). It's doubly distressing that a large proportion of US voters stick with him, giving reality the middle finger. And as for the republican politicians who back him up, inside knowing exactly what a conman he is, it would be difficult to respect them less.

I set out 40 years ago from Dublin, looking for artistic romance and inspiration and found it on the streets and in the sweaty clubs of the Latin quarter ... my band, he asked could he sit in and jam.
The Colombian band currently has four recorded albums ... After finishing their tour in the United States in the second quarter of the year, the band will continue their tour through LatinAmerica.
For the schedule of bands visit ... In addition, the Sizzlin’ HOTLatinQuarter, on Northampton Street between 2nd and 3rd streets, will feature Hispanic and Latino food vendors and the stage with live music and a DJ.
