The Ozarks, also referred to as the Ozark Mountains, Ozarks Mountain Country, and the Ozark Plateau, is a physiographic and geologic highland region of the central United States. It covers much of the southern half of Missouri and an extensive portion of northwestern and north central Arkansas. The region also extends westward into northeastern Oklahoma and extreme southeastern Kansas. The Shawnee Hills of southwest Illinois, which lie near the eastern edge of this region, are commonly called the "Illinois Ozarks" but are generally not considered part of the true Ozarks.
The Lake of the Ozarks is a large reservoir created by impounding the Osage River in the northern part of the Ozarks in central Missouri. Extents of three smaller tributaries to the Osage, the Niangua River, Grandglaize Creek, and Gravois Creek, are included in the impoundment. The lake has a surface area of 54,000 acres (220km2), 1,150 miles (1,850km) of shoreline, and the main channel of the Osage Arm stretches 92 miles (148km) from end to end. The total drainage area is over 14,000 square miles (36,000km2). The lake's serpentine shape has earned it the nickname "The Magic Dragon," which has in turn inspired the names of local institutions such as The Magic Dragon Street Meet.
History
A hydro-electric power plant on the Osage River was first pursued by Kansas City developer Ralph Street in 1912. Street put together the initial funding and began building roads, railroads and infrastructure necessary to begin construction of the dam, with a plan to impound a much smaller lake. In the mid-1920s, Street’s funding dried up and he abandoned the effort.

Worst things about living in Lake of the Ozarks
While the Lake of the Ozarks is a picturesque and charming place to call home, it's important to consider some of the less-than-ideal aspects of living in this popular destination. Here are a few challenges you may face as a resident:

While the Lake of the Ozarks is a picturesque and charming place to call home, it's important to consider some of the less-than-ideal aspects of living in this popular destination. Here are a few challenges you may face as a resident:
1. Seasonal fluctuations: While the lake is bustling with activity during the summer months, the off-season can feel quiet and isolated. If you prefer a consistently lively atmosphere, this seasonal variation may be a drawback.
2. Limited job opportunities: Although the Lake of the Ozarks has a thriving tourism industry, the local job market can be limited outside of this sector. Career growth and advancement might be more challenging than in larger cities.
3. Healthcare access: The Lake of the Ozarks has fewer healthcare facilities compared to urban areas, potentially leading to longer travel times for medical appointments or emergencies.
4. Inadequate public transportation: Public transportation options are scarce in the Lake of the Ozarks area. Owning a car is essential for getting around and accessing amenities, which could be a challenge for those reliant on public transit.
5. Extreme weather: The Lake of the Ozarks is susceptible to extreme weather events such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, and ice storms. If you're not familiar with these conditions, adjusting to the local climate may take some time.
While these challenges may be discouraging, it's important to weigh the pros and cons to determine if the Lake of the Ozarks is the right fit for you. The area's natural beauty, recreational opportunities, and welcoming community can outweigh these drawbacks for many residents.
I've been contacted by a ton of folks who are relocating to Osage Beach, and I LOVE IT! I can make the transition for you if you're moving or relocating to Lake of the Ozarks so much simpler.
Reach out day/nights/weekends whenever you want, I never stop working for you!
