Lake Powell Drought Update | Before and After 2024 Spring Runoff (Antelope)
Lake Powell has finally reached its crest as the Colorado River’s Spring Runoff has subsided. This is called a “Base Flow Period” where the inflows into the lake match the outflows of Glen Canyon Dam’s discharge. All this water is going through the Grand Canyon and heading to Lake Mead and Hoover Dam. Lake Mead will be on the rise as the river outlet works "jet tubes" have opened.
In this video you will witness the gradual change that has happened with this years spring runoff. Lake Powell has topped off close to the same level as 2023. Meaning the Lake is a few feet higher than last years levels.
At the end of the video I explain what is happening with Glen Canyon Dam’s "Cool Flow Mix” which is similar to a High Flow Experiment. The Bureau of Reclamation is now sending more colder wat...

Welcome to the Lake Powell and Glen Canyon Dam update for August 2024. In this episode of timeBomb, we dive into the latest water level statistics, where Lake Powell currently stands at 3582 feet 3 inches above mean sea level, a decrease of over 4 feet since our last update. We'll analyze how this water elevation compares to critical benchmarks like the minimum power pool and full pool elevation.
This week's big story is the unfortunate collapse of the iconic Double Arch monument at Lake Powell. We'll explore what caused this natural wonder to crumble and its implications for the area.
We'll also revisit last month's water level prediction contest between me and the Bureau of Reclamation. Spoiler alert: I was right this time!
Our deep dive into the data continues with detailed charts showing Lake Powell's water level trends, inflows, and outflows for the 2024 water year. We'll examine how recent trends stack up against historical averages and discuss the impact of the last two winter seasons.
Finally, I provide an update on the Charles Hall Ferry, which has been temporarily out of service due to a mechanical issue. If you're planning a visit, be sure to check the latest status on the Department of Transportation website—link is in the description.
Thanks for watching! If you found this update helpful, please like the video, leave a comment, and consider subscribing for more updates. Your support means a lot!

Welcome to the latest Lake Powell and Glen Canyon Dam update for July 2024. This video covers the most recent water level changes and trends at one of America's largest reservoirs.
We'll review current water statistics, including significant changes in elevation, and make predictions about future levels. Additionally, we'll examine the Bureau of Reclamation's unusual water releases from the Glen Canyon Dam aimed at cooling the Colorado River.
Find out if these measures are effectively lowering the river's temperature and preventing the spread of invasive species, impacting the local ecosystem. We'll also discuss the return of the Charles Hall Ferry service, which has resumed operations after being halted due to low water levels.
Stay tuned to see if the predictions hold true and what the future holds for Lake Powell. Hit that like button, share your thoughts in the comments, and subscribe for more in-depth water management updates. Let's get started!
