La Romana International Airport(IATA: LRM,ICAO: MDLR) is an international airport located on the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic, adjacent to the tourist town of La Romana and the resort of Casa de Campo. It is located about 68 miles (110km) from the capital, Santo Domingo. In 2008, 374,724 passengers passed through the airport.
Overview
The current airport opened in December 2000 and replaced an earlier La Romana airport with the same name and same IATA-code, which was located south of the Zona Franca, on the south western side of Casa de Campo, which was approximately at 18°24′41″N68°56′30″W / 18.41139°N 68.94167°W / 18.41139; -68.94167. The former airport serviced, aside from private planes, one daily American Airlines flight from Miami, served by a Boeing 727, and a couple of American Eagle flights. The current single terminal is built in the style of an old sugar mill. The airport consists of a main terminal with 4 modern gates. It has facilities for passengers and for the maintenance of aircraft. This airport receives most of the private flights in the country, principally businessmen that come to La Romana for a vacation in Casa de Campo.
La Romana is the seventh-largest city in the Dominican Republic with a population estimated in 2010 at 130,426 within the city limits (metropolitan population: 214,109), of whom 127,623 are urban and 2,803 are rural. The city is capital of the southeastern province of La Romana, opposite Catalina Island. The name Romana comes from a balance that was used to weigh merchandise for export. Santa Rosa de Lima is the patron saint of La Romana.
The modern La Romana International Airport was opened in 1999. The city is near several other cities, such as San Pedro de Macorís and the national capital, Santo Domingo de Guzmán. The city is a hub for a growing tourist industry with several nearby local resort spots, such as the beachfront Bayahibe, Dominicus, Casa de Campo, and the growing number of golf resorts that surround the area.
History
The city of La Romana was founded in 1897 as an oil town. After 1917 with the construction of a large sugar-mill (owned by Italian immigrants in the region of Rome, Lazio) the economy quickly shifted to sugar production. The commissioning of the sugar mill coincided with the rise in sugar prices worldwide, prompting the sugar industry to welcome workers from other parts of the country, many poor families from the Dominican interior moved to La Romana search of a better life.
La Romana (Spanish pronunciation:[la ɾoˈmana]) is a province of the Dominican Republic. The capital is also named La Romana, and is the third-largest city in the country. La Romana was elevated to the category of province in 1944.
La Romana is also home to Casa de Campo, one of the world's largest resorts and top golfing destinations. The "Teeth of the Dog" golf course is world-renowned, and many international and local artists perform at "Altos de Chavón", an artistic community and university.

Memphis International Airport(IATA: MEM,ICAO: KMEM,FAALID: MEM) is a civil-military airport seven miles (11.2km) southeast of downtown Memphis, in Shelby County, Tennessee.
Memphis International Airport is home to the FedEx Express global hub, which processes many of the company's packages. Nonstop FedEx destinations from Memphis include cities across the continental United States, Europe, Middle East, Asia and South America. From 1993 to 2009 Memphis had the largest cargo operations of any airport worldwide. MEM dropped into second position in 2010, behind Hong Kong; however, it remained the busiest cargo airport in the United States.
As of 2014, Memphis International Airport had a passenger count of 3.75 million, up slightly from the 2014 year.Delta Air Lines dropped Memphis as a hub airport after continually reducing flights following its 2008 merger with Northwest Airlines. As of July 2014 MEM averaged 83 total passenger flights per day on all of the airlines serving the city. The airport has since added several airlines, including Southwest, Frontier, and Allegiant, which has increased competition among the carriers. Since Delta's departure as a hub operation, average round trip prices have declined significantly. The July–September 2014 quarter alone saw a 4.7% decline from the quarter a year earlier.
