The name of Kibbutz Kinneret derives from an ancient Canaanite town, which was however located close to the other, northern end of the lake's western shore. According to the Hebrew Bible, the town of Kinneret fell into the allotment of the tribe of Naphtali (Joshua 19:35), while the area of modern Kibbutz Kinneret was probably also part of Naphtali, or (depending on interpretation) of Issachar or Zebulun. In the Hebrew Bible the Sea of Galilee was named Yam Kinneret, lit. the Sea of Kinneret, another reason for the name chosen for the kibbutz. The nearby ancient town of Bet Yerah was not inhabited during the time of the kingdoms of Israel and is thus not mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, its main relevance to the kibbutz being that it gave its name to the local high school, which is attended by children from the entire area, not just Kibbutz Kinneret.

Fun Visit to Dates Plus - At Kibbutz Kinneret - with VIlla Rimona Tzimmers
A short drive from Villa Rimona is Kibbutz Kinneret near the shores of the Sea of Galilee.
Ron and Omri were on hand at the Kibbutz Factory outlet store called Tamarim Plus- to offer explanations and a "Date Tasting" lesson.
We learned about all the different varieties of dates, from the "dietetic" Chiani variety to the King of Dates, the Medjool.
In addition to the fabulous variety of dates, date spread and syrup for sale, there is a great collection of local boutique wines, fresh spices and exotic spreads and condiments available.
It's a short, fun, interesting and delicious stop on your visit to the Galilee and our family Zimmers at Villa RImona.

The Kibbutz: Israel's Collective Utopia | History of Israel Explained | Unpacked
This week, we’re dissecting one of the founding elements of Israeli society - the kibbutz. Founded in the early 20th century, these collective settlements helped shape the country’s identity.
Based on the idea that everything - from food to children - should be shared, the young immigrants who set up the first kibbutzim threw out the old European way of living and sought to create a system of complete equality.
It was a totally radical concept, but without it, Israel would be a very different place today.
But why were the kibbutzim founded, how did they work (did they work?) and what is left (if anything) of these communal utopias?
Let us know what you think about the idea of the kibbutz movement in the comments below.
