LYRICS:
Absolute. Bear witness. To the next great collapse of the human mind. Logic has been lost. Hunted down at all cost. This is the new beginning. Induce the cancellation. But down around the ground the dogs fight. Gnashing teeth snap just to be right. Occupied with choosing a side instead. Too full of pride to put aside the hatred. There’s no choice. Eat your kind. Bow to war. Self-destruct. Break it down. Question why. Every fucking human is built to self-destruct.

Can Drugs Inspire Great Poems? An Analysis of Coleridge's "Kubla Khan"
Inspiration can be cruel, and artists often feel lost without it. And when it won't show up, which will happen, creative types turn to a myriad of restorative methods: running, isolation, reading, and, most infamously, drugs. But while drugs alter people's minds, do they actually lead to great art? Join us for a reading, summary, and analysis of the most famous drug induced poem of all time: Samuel Taylor Coleridge's "Kubla Khan."

Kubla Khan | Samuel Taylor Coleridge - Line by Line Explanation
A complete analysis and summary of “Kubla Khan” by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, focusing on the prominent images and theme in a simple conversational manner.
Kubla Khan is often described as a fragment. However, it is a coherent, straightforward elaboration of a poetic truth as well. It is a poem about creativity, poetic choices, man’s quest for paradise and his eternal struggle to attain immortality through creativity. This lecture is an attempt to understand the underlying meaning beneath the apparently chaotic imagery of the poem.

"Kubla Khan" by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (read by Tom O'Bedlam)
Kubla Khan was written in 1798, according to Coleridge, but it was first published in 1816. (It was one of my first submissions, but now I have a better microphone and better sound processing technique, so I thought I'd do it again. )
Coleridge was addicted to laudanum which brought him visions and agonies with constipation which he thought of as retribution. Laudanum addiction was common because people resorted to it to relieve toothache, which was a part of everyday life in those days.
He told the story that the poem came to him in dream and he wrote it down on waking, but lost the remainder when he was interrupted by a "visitor from Porlock". However this story has been disproved because earlier draughts have been discovered. Actually I haven't checked the facts, this is just w...

Or, a vision in a dream. A Fragment.
In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.
So twice five miles of fertile ground
With walls and towers were girdled round;
And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills,
Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree;
And here were forests ancient as the hills,
Enfolding sunny spots of greenery.
But oh! that deep romantic chasm which slanted
Down the green hill athwart a cedarn cover!
A savage place! as holy and enchanted
As e’er beneath a waning moon was haunted
By woman wailing for her demon-lover!
And from this chasm, with ceaseless turmoil seething,
As if this earth in fast thick pants were breathing,
A mighty fountain momently was forced:
Amid whose swift half-intermitted burst
Huge fragments vaulted like rebounding hail,
Or chaffy grain beneath the thresher’s flail:
And mid these dancing rocks at once and ever
It flung up momently the sacred river.
Five miles meandering with a mazy motion
Through wood and dale the sacred river ran,
Then reached the caverns measureless to man,
And sank in tumult to a lifeless ocean;
And ’mid this tumult Kubla heard from far
Ancestral voices prophesying war!
The shadow of the dome of pleasure
Floated midway on the waves;
Where was heard the mingled measure
From the fountain and the caves.
It was a miracle of rare device,
A sunny pleasure-dome with caves of ice!
A damsel with a dulcimer
In a vision once I saw:
It was an Abyssinian maid
And on her dulcimer she played,
Singing of Mount Abora.
Could I revive within me
Her symphony and song,
To such a deep delight ’twould win me,
That with music loud and long,
I would build that dome in air,
That sunny dome! those caves of ice!
And all who heard should see them there,
And all should cry, Beware! Beware!
His flashing eyes, his floating hair!
Weave a circle round him thrice,
And close your eyes with holy dread
For he on honey-dew hath fed,
And drunk the milk of Paradise.

LYRICS
To all the ladies working Iowa-80
Selling pussy to the chrome on the interstate
Living hard lives
Working long nights
Hit by every man you ever loved
Til your heart died
You’re my mother
You’re my sister
And a daughter tonight
For every bruise. And excuse
You tried but you couldn’t hide
For all the fear. Every tear.
Slowly burning your sight.
For every moment. In the light
I fucking see you tonight
To see heartbreak from my window
Such a sad state
I can’t
Stop to
Even help you
What the hell can I do?
say that’s just her life?
Turned out. Used up. and defiled?
Deep pain starts early in life
Every woman still once was a child
Who’s one story of millions
Swan song sung city to city to city
Your hurt hit closer to home
But what do you see?
Graves beneath the family tree of abuse
Fucking raped at age 4 on the floor of the chicken coop.
I saw her casket fucking covered in flies
A botched embalming job still smelled like somebody died.
For what?
Dead end path
Eyes up
For all the woman suffering so visibly
The runaways enslaved unwilling
Drug addiction
Dereliction
Dying from trauma induced conditions
But you must find your strength
I can't walk your life. Your history.
To see heartbreak from my window
One day this world might hear you
Sometimes you gotta let the rough end drag

You will never Cease to seek validation Desperation grows Lower than my lowest lows Trapped inside Where I hide You will never know You will never ever know Bitch Panic sets in As I envision the abyss I've crept in Don't come back here Turn away knowing none can go near Memorize this Strict warning from a fucking bastard Misery lives And she will hunt you till it's all that makes sense Another day, my friend Into the mirror I descend Reenact these reactions Duplicate the appearance of passion Act up as a weapon of distraction When deep down my nerves strike up like matches And I'll never leave this State of mind. I've tried. It's useless. It's useless I remain afflicted Forever suspicious Of anyone that listens Knowing well I'm nothing worth fixing My tongue is a shovel It dug deep. Bringing you to my level Another day, my friend Another day I must suffer to pretend That this shit doesn't kill me That I'm fine and no lover to misery My own friends don't visit me I know why. No one Ever wants my company It's all there My mirror Medusa, my master My secret. My slave.

Actually I haven't checked the facts, this is just what I remember.

The picture of the girl is mid 19th century and anonymous, but she is not Abyssinian nor is her instrument a Dulcimer.
The picture is of Brighton Pavilion which was rebuilt as a "Dome of Pleasure" by George IV at about the time of the poem: one might have influenced the other - who knows?
