Knighton/ˈnaɪtən/ (Welsh: Tref-y-clawdd Welsh pronunciation:[trɛvəˈklauð] or Trefyclo) is a small market town and community situated chiefly in Powys, Wales, within the historic county boundaries of Radnorshire. Lying on the River Teme, the town straddles the English-Welsh border; Knighton railway station, as well as a small part of the town's built-up area, is located in Shropshire, England. Knighton is the sixth largest town in Powys.
The name Knighton derives from Old English meaning 'A settlement of servants' Cniht or cnihta (forming the now used 'knight' aspect) originally meaning servant rather than the oft mistaken 'Knight' as in the soldier. This was both an Anglo-Saxon settlement (though no trace of this has ever been located) and later a Norman fortified town. Tref-y-clawdd, its Welsh name, is not a translation: it means 'town on the dyke' (i.e. Offa's Dyke) and not Knighton, and is first recorded in 1262.
Powys covers the historic counties of Montgomeryshire and Radnorshire, most of Brecknockshire (Breconshire), and a small part of Denbighshire — an area of 5,179km² (2,000 sq miles), making it the largest county in Wales by land area.
Most of Powys is mountainous, with north-south transport being difficult.
The majority of the Powys population lives in villages and small towns. The largest towns are Newtown, Ystradgynlais, Brecon, and Welshpool with populations of 12,783, 9,004, 7,901 and 6,269 respectively (2001). Powys has the lowest population density of all the principal areas of Wales.

Of the five people above, the first four are descended from the same family that was clearly found in Ludlow, Shropshire in the sixteenth century. There is evidence, but not strong, from the seventeenth century that the Ludlow Powyses came from Cockshot, also in Shropshire, see the unpublished 1662/3 Visitation of Shropshire in the College of Arms. The Cockshot Powyses (and Powis and Powes, etc.) are to be found in public records from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, see charters in Shropshire Record Office. There are other families of Powis who also are probably descended from this Cockshot outpost. While it is attractive to see all these Powys/Powis/Powes as descended from Wales, there is as yet no clear evidence to support this.

A phased launch of the new domains was scheduled, with trademark holders being eligible to apply initially. General availability was expected by the spring of 2015. Early adopters of the domains include the Welsh government and male voice choirOnly Men Aloud!.

Powys - Llanfyllin 4K
A beautiful small town (don't say "village" to the locals, it brings out the worst!) hidden between the hillsides within the county of Powys, an ancient kingdom covering a large proportion of Wales and the English Midlands following the withdrawal of Romans from Britain. What a lovely part of the country and well worth visiting. There are lots of scenic places to visit nearby, including Lake Vrnwy.
