What are Honours, Awards and medals Pt 1
In this Part 1 of What are Honours and Awards we will be looking at the history behind Orders of Chivalry and Decorations through the Imperial system into the current Australian system. Part 2 will be up soon and will cover war/campaign medals, service medals and foreign medals awarded to Australians.
Now, but for I get people telling me that I forgot an order or medal. Yes I know and it was very hard to draw a line, but with 176 awards making it in, the two parts are going to run for almost an hour, where I had initially only planed for around 20 mins for the whole thing.

正式タイトルは「The Most Honourable Military Order of the Bath(最も名誉あるバス軍事勲章)」。
"Order of the Bath"

Ceremonial Lives of The Australian Nation
A recording of a live event orchestrated by the Menzies Australia Institute and the Australian National University.
Ceremony is an important and public aspect of our social and political lives. This panel discussion brings together three Australian National University scholars working across law and history. They will explore the history and contemporary significance of ceremony in three distinct arenas of Australia’s national life:citizenship, the honours system, and the swearing-in of new judges. Significant, important and contemporary themes traverse and animate these ceremonies, including the relationship between Australia’s British heritage and its modern independent nationhood; tensions between diversity and national unity, and between history and modernity; and the politics of Indi...

The Most Honourable Order of the Bath (formerly the Most Honourable Military Order of the Bath) is a British order of chivalry founded by George I on 18 May 1725. The name derives from the elaborate medieval ceremony for appointing a knight, which involved bathing (as a symbol of purification) as one of its elements. The knights so created were known as "Knights of the Bath". George I "erected the Knights of the Bath into a regular Military Order". He did not (as is commonly believed) revive the Order of the Bath, since it had never previously existed as an Order, in the sense of a body of knights who were governed by a set of statutes and whose numbers were replenished when vacancies occurred. The Order consists of the Sovereign (currently Queen Elizabeth II), the Great Master (currently The Prince of Wales), and three Classes of members:
Knight Grand Cross (GCB) or Dame Grand Cross (GCB)
Knight Commander (KCB) or Dame Commander (DCB)
Companion (CB)Members belong to either the Civil or the Military Division. Prior to 1815, the order had only a single class, Knight Companion (KB), which no longer exists. Recipients of the Order are now usually senior military officers or senior civil servants. Commonwealth citizens who are not subjects of the Queen and foreign nationals may be made Honorary Members. The Order of the Bath is the fourth-most senior of the British Orders of Chivalry, after The Most Noble Order of the Garter, The Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, and The Most Illustrious Order of St Patrick (dormant).

A recording of a live event orchestrated by the Menzies Australia Institute and the Australian National University.
Ceremony is an important and public aspect of our social and political lives. This panel discussion brings together three Australian National University scholars working across law and history. They will explore the history and contemporary significance of ceremony in three distinct arenas of Australia’s national life:citizenship, the honours system, and the swearing-in of new judges. Significant, important and contemporary themes traverse and animate these ceremonies, including the relationship between Australia’s British heritage and its modern independent nationhood; tensions between diversity and national unity, and between history and modernity; and the politics of Indigenous recognition within the colonial legal system. In different ways, each paper also speaks In different ways, each paper also speaks to who ‘counts’ in public life; a theme of contemporary interest in both Australian and international contexts.

SUMMARY
=======
The history of Europe covers the peoples inhabiting Europe from prehistory to the present. During the Neolithic era and the time of the Indo-European migrations Europe saw migrations from east and southeast and the following important cultural and material exchange. The period known as classical antiquity began with the emergence of the city-states of ancient Greece. Later, the Roman Empire came to dominate the entire Mediterranean basin. The fall of the Roman Empire in AD 476 traditionally marks the start of the Middle Ages. Beginning in the 14th century a Renaissance of knowledge challenged traditional doctrines in science and theology. Simultaneously, the Protestant Reformation set up Protestant churches primarily in Germany, Scandinavia and England. After 1800, the Industrial Revolution brought prosperity to Britain and Western Europe. The main powers set up colonies in most of the Americas and Africa, and parts of Asia. In the 20th century, World War I and World War II resulted in massive numbers of deaths. The Cold War dominated European geo-politics from 1947 to 1989. Unification into a European Union moved forward after 1950, with some setbacks. Today, most countries west of Russia belong to the NATO military alliance, along with the United States and Canada.
