Founded in 1964, Kenai Peninsula College (also known as KPC), is a unit of the University of Alaska Anchorage with 4 locations on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula and Anchorage.
Locations
Kenai River Campus (KRC)
Located in Soldotna, Alaska, the Kenai River Campus is Kenai Peninsula Colleges' original campus as well as the largest, boasting an enrollment of over 2000 students each semester.
Kachemak Bay Campus (KBC)
Located in Homer, Alaska, the Kachemak Bay Campus sits on 3 acres of land overlooking Kachemak Bay.
Resurrection Bay Extension Site (RBES)
Located in Seward, Alaska, The Resurrection Bay Extension Site allows Kenai Peninsula College to offer classes to students living on the eastern Peninsula, with classes housed in Seward High School.
Anchorage Extension Site (AES)
Located at UAA's University Center Complex in Anchorage, the Anchorage Extension site offers a chance for Anchorage students to earn degrees in KPC programs such as Process Technology and Instrumentation.
The Kenai Peninsula is a large peninsula jutting from the southern coast of Alaska in the United States. The name Kenai is probably derived from Kenayskaya, the Russian name for Cook Inlet, which borders the peninsula to the west.
Geography
The peninsula extends approximately 150 miles (240km) southwest from the Chugach Mountains, south of Anchorage. It is separated from the mainland on the west by Cook Inlet and on the east by Prince William Sound. Most of the peninsula is part of the Kenai Peninsula Borough. Gerasim Izmailov was the first European man to explore and map the peninsula in 1789, though Athabaskan and Alutiiq Native groups have lived on the peninsula for thousands of years.
Peninsula College is an open-access, comprehensive community college located in Port Angeles, Washington, on the Olympic Peninsula. It is part of the Washington Community and Technical Colleges system, and has an annual enrollment of more than 5,600 students. Peninsula College offers a Bachelor of Applied Science in Applied Management degree, transfer associate degree programs, multiple professional-technical degrees and certificates, community education courses and pre-college courses. It also has distance education and online learning options.
Peninsula College's service district encompasses Clallam and Jefferson Counties and extends from the Pacific Ocean at Neah Bay to Brinnon on Hood Canal.
History
The college was founded in 1961 because a group of local citizens wanted to be able to continue their education without having to travel great distances to college centers in Bremerton or across Puget Sound. The first classes were held in a small building on the Port Angeles High School campus, but the number of students who enrolled in the college quickly became more than the available facilities could accommodate, and plans were soon underway to build a permanent campus elsewhere in the city. Construction of the new campus began in 1964, and a year later the first classes were held on the present site of Peninsula College, with additional classes offered across the service district. Today, the main campus covers 75 acres of land in the foothills of the Olympic Mountains, overlooking the city of Port Angeles.

Travel Guide: Homer, Alaska and exploring the Kenai Peninsula
We’ve headed to the Kenai Peninsula starting with Homer, Alaska!
We'll start at the iconic Homer Spit, the bustling hub of activity filled with shops, eateries, and the legendary Salty Dawg Saloon. We'll set sail on a water taxi to hike to the breathtaking Grewingk Glacier and marvel at the awe-inspiring views.
We'll also visit local booze businesses to sample their award-winning beers and mead.
One of the top things to do in Homer is not actually in Homer, but across water: Kachemak Bay State Park! This was Alaska's first state park and is home to beautiful mountains, lakes, glaciers, forests, and rivers. The only way to get to it is by boat or plane, so we hopped on a water taxi in Homer and hiked to the Grewingk Glacier Lake!
On the way out of town, we stopped at Skilak Lookout ...

Journey to Alaska Episode 9: Exploring the Kenai Penninsula
To avoid the heat and smoke of fires burning throughout Alaska, we drive south to the Kenai Peninsula and have a great time exploring Homer, Seward, Portage, Captain Cook State Preserve, Soldotna, and conclude with the famous tunnel from Portage to Whittier where we catch a ferry to Valdez.
Along the way we watch surfers catching the Turnagain Arm bore tide, hike to glaciers, visit an aquarium, and hunt for agates.

When we returned from Katmai National Park we venture onto the Kenai Peninsula for the first time in our travels in Alaska. We stop in the town of Whittier before heading to Homer, Alaska. While in Homer we meet up with some new friends for a trip across the inlet to see icebergs and incredible wildlife. We also find some ocean side camping that ends up being our favorite in all of Alaska.

On the way out of town, we stopped at Skilak Lookout for a brief hike before heading inland for more adventures!

Are you planning to visit the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska? We take a tour around Homer, Seward, Whittier and even Soldotna. In this travel guide we see eagles, glaciers, deep sea fishing and much more. For many people this is one of the top areas to explore thanks to its many glaciers and the scenic coastal highway. The other area in Alaska people like to explore is the Inner Passage. In this Alaska road trip we go from Anchorage to Homer.

On the way out of town, we stopped at Skilak Lookout for a brief hike before heading inland for more adventures!

Steller Wind - Unicorn Heads
Written, produced, and mixed by Connor O'Sullivan for Unicorn Heads and the YouTube Audio Library.
