Keith Claudius Mitchell (born 12 November 1946) is a Grenadian politician who has been Prime Minister of Grenada since 2013; previously he served as Prime Minister from 1995 to 2008. He is the longest serving Prime Minister Grenada has ever had, holding the office for just over 13 years. He is currently leader of the New National Party (NNP) and was Leader of the Opposition in Parliament from 2008 to 2013.
In the December 1984 general election, he was elected to a seat in the House of Representatives from St. George North West constituency, and he has held the seat in each subsequent election. Mitchell was elected as leader of the NNP in January 1989, defeating Prime Minister Herbert Blaize. Blaize then dismissed Mitchell from his position as Minister of Works and Communications on 21 July 1989.
Mitchell attended Lakeview High School in Garland, Texas and went to an outstanding college career at Texas A&M, where he was part of a star-studded defense known as the "Wrecking Crew". He was a talented pass rusher who was among the NCAA leaders in quarterback sacks during his junior and senior years. He had 34 career sacks for the Aggies and 18.5 career tackles behind the line of scrimmage. As a senior, Mitchell had 14.5 sacks and 10.5 other tackles for loss. Although constantly double-teamed, he still managed 50 solo tackles as a senior. Mitchell was the defensive MVP of the Aggies' 1995 Alamo Bowl victory over Michigan. He was named to The Sporting News college All-America second team and to the first-team College Football News All-American team as an outside linebacker in 1996.
The Sun (in Greek: Helios, in Latin: Sol) is the star at the center of the Solar System and is by far the most important source of energy for life on Earth. It is a nearly perfect spherical ball of hot plasma, with internal convective motion that generates a magnetic field via a dynamo process. Its diameter is about 109 times that of Earth, and it has a mass about 330,000 times that of Earth, accounting for about 99.86% of the total mass of the Solar System.About three quarters of the Sun's mass consists of hydrogen; the rest is mostly helium, with much smaller quantities of heavier elements, including oxygen, carbon, neon and iron.
Publication of The Sun ceased on 14 March 1988. Some of its content, and sponsorship of the Sydney City to Surf footrace, was continued in The Sun-Herald.
Mitchell was drafted by the Braves in the 4th round of the 1987 amateur draft. He debuted with the Braves on July 23, 1991 and went on to hit .318 in 48 games that season, but that was his last shot at the bigs with Atlanta. He did, however, earn some playing time as the left fielder for the Braves in that year's postseason.
All his stints in the majors were short and far apart from one another. In 1994, he played in 46 games with the Mariners and in 1996, he played in 11 games with the Reds. His major league career ended 2 years later in 1998 after playing 23 games with the Red Sox. He also was the third out in John Valentin's unassisted triple play on July 8, 1994.
