Armenians continue illegal transportation in Karabakh, with help of Russian peacekeepers
Twenty-seven years have passed since the occupation of Khankendi city of Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region. Armenian invaders occupied Nagorno-Karabakh’s center Khankendi and its Kerkijahan settlement, which had significant strategic importance for the city and surrounding areas, in 1991. Khankendi turned out fully occupied after the capture of the Kerkijahan settlement on December 28.

Khankendi is subordinated city in the Republic of Azerbaijan. Administratively its coverage area includes the city of Khankendi and Karkijahan settlement. The population is 53,100 (2008). Khankendi included in administrative area of Askeran region.
Khojaly is in the Khojaly town of Azerbaijan. The population is 24,417 people. Khojaly region established on the basis of Askeran region on November 26, 1991. Territory of the region was occupied by Armenian armed forces during 1991-1992. In February 26, 1992, in the town of Khojaly Armenians committed genocide of the century.
Currently the city is under Armenian occupation.

Azerbaycan Silahlı kuvvetleri harp tarihine adını altın harflerle yazdırmayı kafaya koymuş belli. Daha önce 44 günde Karabağ'ı geri almışlardı. Ama Hankendi civarında hala Ermeni Silahlı kuvvetleri ve yasadışı silahlı gruplar varlığını sürdürüyordu. Bu sefer 44 gün bile ayırmadılar olaya. Sadece 24 saat içinde Dağlık Karabağ bölgesindeki bütün mevzileri imha ettiler. Yani Azerbaycan 24 saatte destan yazarak dünya harp tarihine adını altın harflerle yazdırdı. Khankendi is a relatively young Azerbaijani city. It was founded in the 18th century as a place of relaxation for the Karabakh khans. Local people called the town Khanin kendi(khan's village), but soon shortened the name to Khankendi. From the 19th century Khankendi began to develop as a regional economic centre. When the authorities of Soviet Azerbaijan created Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region, they declared Khankendi the capital of the region.
