Joseph Leslie "Joe" Sample (February 1, 1939 – September 12, 2014) was an American pianist, keyboard player, and composer. He was one of the founding members of the Jazz Crusaders, the band which became simply the Crusaders in 1971, and remained a part of the group until its final album in 1991 (not including the 2003 reunion album Rural Renewal).
Beginning in the 1970s, he enjoyed a successful solo career and guested on many recordings by other performers and groups, including Miles Davis, George Benson, Jimmy Witherspoon, B. B. King, Eric Clapton, Steely Dan, and the Supremes. Sample incorporated jazz, gospel, blues, Latin, and classical forms into his music.
On September 12, 2014, Sample died in Houston, Texas, of mesothelioma at age 75.
Sample was born in Houston, Texas on February 1, 1939. Sample began to play the piano at age 5. He was a student of the organist and pianist Curtis Mayo.
In high school in the 1950s, Sample teamed up with friends saxophonist Wilton Felder and drummer "Stix" Hooper to form a group called the Swingsters. While studying piano at Texas Southern University, Sample met and added trombonist Wayne Henderson and several other players to the Swingsters, which became the Modern Jazz Sextet and then the Jazz Crusaders, in emulation of one of the leading progressive jazz bands of the day, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. Sample never took a degree from the university; instead, in 1960, he and the Jazz Crusaders made the move from Houston to Los Angeles.
"Just a Little" is a song recorded by English-Irish pop group Liberty X. Written by singer Michelle Escoffery and produced by The BigPockets, it was released on 13 May 2002 as the third single from the group's debut studio album, Thinking It Over (2002).
The song debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart when released, selling over 100,000 copies in its first week. It only stayed at number one for a week, being replaced by Eminem's "Without Me". Despite this the record remained in the chart all summer, and ended up as the seventh best selling single of the year. It also reached number four in Australia and number ten in France. The song has sold 510,000 copies in the UK as stated by the Official UK Charts Company and won the Best British Single at the 2003 BRIT Awards. The song was the 86th best-selling single of the 2000s in the UK.
The song proved to be Liberty X's breakthrough to mainstream and critical success, in the process overtaking rivals Hear'Say in terms of success. To date it is the group's only number one; after the success of Thinking It Over, the band had a gradual fall from success and follow-up singles failed to reach the top.
"Just a Little" is a song by American rock group The Beau Brummels. The song is included on the band's debut album, Introducing the Beau Brummels, and was released as its second single, following "Laugh, Laugh". "Just a Little" became the band's highest-charting U.S. single, peaking at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 1965. It also reached the top 10 of the charts in Canada and Australia.
Written by guitarist Ron Elliott with frequent collaborator Bob Durand, the song was produced by Sylvester Stewart, later known as Sly Stone. A live version of the song recorded during a 1974 concert was released on the band's 2000 Live! album. "Just a Little" has been covered by such artists as The Young Rascals, Them, Nils Lofgren, The Smithereens, and Frank Black.
Written by the band's guitarist Ron Elliott with frequent collaborator Bob Durand, "Just a Little" begins with acoustic guitar strums with ascending minor-key harmonies, while electric guitar chords are heard during the chorus. With these musical elements, "Just a Little" is considered an early example of folk rock, though it also bears a stylistic similarity to British beat.

The Crusaders were one of the pioneers of Jazz-Funk music in the seventies and have made a number of visits to Montreux over the years. This DVD focuses on their performance from 2003 when the band were touring in support of their album "Rural Renewal". Founder members Joe Sample and Wilton Felder were joined in the line-up by long standing friend Ray Parker Jr on guitar and by the inimitable Randy Crawford on vocals. They delivered a set that spanned their career from early days up to their latest album capped with a stunning nine minute plus performance of their classic "Street Life" and finished off with a fun rendition of Ray Parker Jr's "Ghostbusters". 2003 Montreux Sounds Montreux Sounds: https://www.montreuxsounds.com Mercury Studios: https://www.mercurystudios.co/distribution/ (...

Just A Little - The Lotus Ah ah ah ah I can't stay, yes I know You know I hate to go But goodbye, love was sweet Our worlds can never meet So I'll cry just a little 'cause I love you so And I'll die just a little 'cause I have to go Away Can't you see how I feel When I say love's unreal But goodbye, it's been sweet Even though incomplete So I'll cry just a little 'cause I love you so And I'll die just a little 'cause I have to go Away Every night I still hear All your sighs very clear Now love's gone, gone away As I once heard you say Now I've cried just a little 'cause I loved you so And I've died just a little 'cause I had to go Away

I make it alone
When love is gone
Still you made your mark
Here in my heart
One day I'll fly away
Leave you love to yesterday
What more can your love do for me
When will love be through with me
I follow the night
Can't stand the light
When will I begin
My life again
One day I'll fly away
Leave you love to yesterday
What more can your love do for me
When will love be through with me
Why live life from dream to dream
Dread the day that dreaming ends
One day I'll fly away
Leave you love to yesterday
What more can your love do for me
When will love be through with me
Why live life from dream to dream
And dread the day that dreaming ends
