Juggernaut is a first-person narrativenovel written by English author Desmond Bagley, and was first published in 1985. This was Bagley’s last novel, and as he died in 1983, it was published posthumously by his widow.
Plot introduction
American narrator Neil Mannix is a troubleshooter for multinational British Electric, and is sent to former British colony in Africa, Nyala to oversee the installation of a huge 550-ton power transformer. The newly independent Nyala is rich with oil, and hopes to prop up its shaky democracy and economy with a showcase new power station located at a remote location near its oil fields. Due to the increasing precarious political situation, the Nyalan government insists that British Electric dispatch the transformer via huge flatbed truck to reassure the populace, and suspecting difficulties, Mannix is sent to supervise the travels of "the rig". However, a civil war breaks out, and Mannix is bullied by a local doctor and an Irish nun into using the rig as a traveling hospital. He must deal with opposing armies, unsafe roads and bridges, some untrustworthy crew members and the local Nyalans who start to trek after the huge machine, which has taken on symbolic role for the populace.
Juggernaut is the second solo studio album by Canadian rock guitarist Frank Marino, released in 1982. The original Mahogany Rush drummer Jimmy Ayoub was replaced by Timm Biery for this album.
As Tuvok attempts to teach B'Elanna Torres meditation to calm her violent tendencies, Voyager detects escape pods from a damaged Malon freighter. As they rescue two surviving Malons, they learn that the freighter, transporting deadly theta radioactive waste, is set to explode in a few hours, which would destroy everything within 3 light years. Unable to clear the potential explosion in time, Captain Kathryn Janeway orders Voyager towards the freighter, anticipating bringing the ship's containment system back on line to contain the explosion in time.
The surviving Malons, Fesek and Pelk, work with Voyager's crew to determine how to effect repairs as fast as possible. Most of the decks of the Malon freighter are flooded with radiation, and to reach the control deck, they will need to evacuate the radiation from each deck prior to it. Chakotay, Torres, and Neelix join Fesek and Pelk on the freighter. As they work, Pelk is attacked and killed by some creature, which Fesek claims is "the Vihaar", a type of legend among Malons. Torres is angered to learn from Fesek how little Malons value life, but keeps her anger in check.
