Johnson City is a city in Washington, Carter, and Sullivan counties in the U.S. state of Tennessee, with most of the city being in Washington County. As of the 2010 census, the population of Johnson City was 63,152, and by 2014 the estimated population was 65,813, making it the ninth-largest city in the state.
Johnson City is ranked the #14 "Best Small Place for Business and Careers" in the USA by Forbes, and #5 in Kiplinger's list of "The 10 Least-Expensive Cities For Living in the U.S.A." stating the low cost of living is attributed to affordable homes and below-average utility, transportation and health-care costs.
Johnson City is the principal city of the Johnson City Metropolitan Statistical Area, which covers Carter, Unicoi, and Washington counties and had a combined population of 200,966 as of 2013. The MSA is also a component of the Johnson City–Kingsport–Bristol, TN-VACombined Statistical Area– commonly known as the "Tri-Cities" region. This CSA is the fifth largest in Tennessee with an estimated 500,538 people in residence.
The village of Johnson City is in the town of Union, New York, and is a part of the "Triple Cities" along with Endicott and Binghamton. Johnson City lies to the west of Binghamton on the eastern side of the town of Union.
History
Known as the "Home of the Square Deal", from the Square Deal given to all employees of Endicott Johnson Corporation, Johnson City was originally incorporated in 1892 as the village of Lestershire, In 1916, the village was renamed Johnson City in honor of George F. Johnson, who led the company that was by then known as Endicott Johnson.
2009 dissolution vote
In January 2007, a group of residents organized a petition supporting dissolution of the village for tax reasons. A vote was held on November 3, 2009. On November 12, 2009, the results came back "no" for dissolution by just 42 votes.
Johnson City 2001 is a complete concert album by Widespread Panic. The three disc set is the fifth release from the Widespread Panic archives. The performance was recorded live at Freedom Hall in Johnson City, Tennessee on November 20, 2001. The multi-track recording featured all original band members including the late guitarist, Michael Houser.
The state of Tennessee is rooted in the Watauga Association, a 1772 frontier pact generally regarded as the first constitutional government west of the Appalachians. What is now Tennessee was initially part of North Carolina, and later part of the Southwest Territory. Tennessee was admitted to the Union as the 16th state on June 1, 1796. Tennessee was the last state to leave the Union and join the Confederacy at the outbreak of the U.S. Civil War in 1861. Occupied by Union forces from 1862, it was the first state to be readmitted to the Union at the end of the war.
"Welcome to the World", which single version featuring Kid Cudi is the second single from this album, released in February 2009 has reached #58 on the US Hot 100 and has debuted at number 96 in Australia's Aria Singles Chart and has peaked at number 42.

- Out of 300 major metro areas in the US, the Johnson City metro area in Northeast TN was ranked #1 on the WSJ and Realtor.com's list of Emerging Housing Markets. Here we explain the index and why Johnson City and the Tri-cities are so attractive.
Is Johnson City Tennessee a good place to live? People from out of state are beginning to move to northeast TN, partly due to the runup in prices in the Nashville and surrounding areas that make them less attractive. Johnson City, Kingsport, and our hometown of Bristol make up the "Tri-cities" and are becoming a better alternative to some people.
