Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to John Sparrow Thompson and Charlotte Pottinger, Thompson was of Irish descent. Some sources say he was born on November 10, 1845, others say 1844. Thompson married Annie Affleck (1842–1913) in 1870. Annie Thompson was strong-willed and had the same kind of spirit that had driven Agnes Macdonald (another prime minister's wife) to ride the cowcatcher of a CPR train through the British Columbia mountains. During their courtship, Thompson was forced to write love letters in shorthand because of his soon-to-be wife's disapproving parents.
Thompson's family life was marred by tragedy. A daughter, Annie, died at age one, while youngest son David lived to be two. Two other children died at birth (the Thompsons had five children survive childhood).
He served as an officer in the militia during the War of 1812 and was a contractor during the construction of the first Welland Canal. Thompson built a number of mills on the Grand River which led to the establishment of the town of Indiana. He cleared land and built his home on what would later be known as the Ruthven Estate, now a National Historic Site of Canada. With William Hamilton Merritt, Thompson was a promoter of the Grand River Navigation Company, an enterprise which transformed the Grand River into a navigable waterway for commercial activity between Brantford and Lake Erie. Thompson died in office in 1851.
His son David represented Haldimand in the assembly for the Province of Canada and the Canadian House of Commons.
David Thompson was a Canadian country music singer. Thirteen of Thompson's singles made the RPM Country Tracks charts, including the number one single "I Never Figured on This." In 1984, Thompson became the lead singer of Thunder Road. His band members included Sean Borton, Darryl Murray, Bob Rogowski, and Boyd Faulconer. Thompson died on November 9, 2010 in Aylmer, Ontario.
David (Spanish pronunciation:[daˈβið]) officially San José de David is a city and corregimiento located in the west of Panama. It is the capital of the province of Chiriquí and has an estimated population of 144,858 inhabitants as confirmed in 2013. It is a relatively affluent city with a firmly established, dominant middle class and a very low unemployment and poverty index. The Pan-American Highway is a popular route to David.
The development of the banking sector, public construction works such as the expansion of the airport and the David-Boquete highway alongside the growth of commercial activity in the city have increased its prominence as one of the fastest growing regions in the country. The city is currently the economic center of the Chiriqui province and produces more than half the gross domestic product of the province, which totals 2.1 billion. It is known for being the third-largest city in the country both in population and by GDP and for being the largest city in Western Panama.
David Abraham Cheulkar (1909 – 28 December 1981), popularly known as David, was a Jewish-IndianHindi film actor and a member of Mumbai's Marathi speaking Bene Israel community. In a career spanning four decades, he played mostly character roles, starting with 1941 film Naya Sansar, and went on to act in over 110 films, including memorable films like, Gol Maal (1979), Baton Baton Mein (1979) and Boot Polish (1954) for which he was awarded the 1955 Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award.
Early life
David graduated from the University of Bombay with a Bachelor of Arts degree in the year 1930. After a six year unsuccessful struggle to land himself a job, he decided to try his luck in the Hindi film industry by becoming a professional actor. During these years of struggle, he also managed to obtain a degree in law from the Government Law College.
Finally, on 15 January 1937, with the help of his close friend Mr. Nayampalli, a veteran character actor, he managed to land himself his first role in a movie. The movie was Zambo and it was being produced and directed by Mohan Bhavnani who was the Chief Producer of the Films Division of the Government of India.

David Thompson and the mapping of Canada
David Thompson travelled some 90,000 kilometres across North America as a fur trader and surveyor, mapping one-fifth of the continent.
His work was so accurate it remained the basis of all maps of the west for almost a century. And yet, he died in obscurity, his remarkable achievements largely forgotten.
His biographer D'Arcy Jenish joins me to talk about this remarkable man’s life and work, and his role in creating the Canada we know today.

Considered the greatest land geographer who ever lived, and my favourite Canadian historical figure, David Thompson started life on a bad note, and ended it on a sad note, but in between he mapped 1/5th of North America. This is his story.
