Charles William Brown - Artist and Miner
Controversially, it has been commented that the coal miner had little capacity for or interest in art! How wrong can you be, bearing in mind strong traditions of brass banding, male voice choirs, the singing of traditional songs, writing and, of course, painting.
There has been a continuing culture of miners creating art, most notably in South Wales and the North East, with the Pitmen Painters from Ashington in Northumberland and names (although, granted, not as well known as they should be) such as Cyril Ifold, Archie Rhys Griffiths, John Davies and a trio of Evans Boys – Vincent, George and Nick – from South Wales.

1946: The Greatest Depression in US History (prior to 2020)
Historians completely ignore the 1946 Great Depression, which was statistically worse than the Great Depression of 1929-1941*. The was a huge drop in GDP and GNP, and it's been getting worse every time the US government revises its official statistics. Today, we're going to cover the history of the Greatest Depression in US history (at least, prior to 2020, which might be worse).
*Actually 1929-1945, as you'll see if you watch the video fully.
Also, for those crying "Stick to Tanks", this is 100% about TANKS, as you'll see if you actually watch the video... (Did WW2 really get America out of the Depression?)

Educational visit to Carey Island Estate on 17 Feb 2022.
This estate is located to the south of Port Klang and north of Banting town in the state of Selangor and it's an hour's drive from Kuala Lumpur.
It was named after Edward Valentine John Carey, an English planter who acquired the land from the Sultan of Selangor to start rubber plantations over 100 years ago. Currently oil palm dominate the landscape owned by Sime Darby Plantations Sdn Bhd.
According to Heritage of Malaysia Trust, 14 bungalows on Carey Island have been given heritage status. The Hatter's Caste stands out and is admired as a model for subsequent plantation bungalows.
The Plantation Heritage Museum exhibits of an old steam train which carried oil palm and a Land Rover used by the Manager are on display outside the museum. The museum contains the history of the palm oil plantation. The artifacts includes the tapping and process of rubber. A replica of a Manager’s office and payment for the workers, tools, equipment, transport used during the era are displayed here.
Its good going back to the times where we were the No 1 rubber producing nation in the world. Tin was the other commodity we exported.

Many artist-miners were skilled in making do with very little, gleaning knowledge about their obsession from magazines, newspapers and cheap books, often using everyday items in their home as both raw materials and subjects for their paintings. Most were entirely self-taught, only occasionally receiving guidance at local art classes. As both artists and miners they worked in the dark. Their accomplishments are significant, capturing what is now a bygone world, and doing it off-shift when tremendous energy had already been expended by their tough labours.
Step forward Charles William Brown, a local artist and miner born in Biddulph Moor whose works depict an extraordinarily wide range of subjects emanating from the scenes and personalities at the “pit”…….

ABOUT TIK
History isn’t as boring as some people think, and my goal is to get people talking about it. I also want to dispel the myths and distortions that ruin our perception of the past by asking a simple question - “But is this really the case?”. I have a 2:1 Degree in History and a passion for early 20th Century conflicts (mainly WW2). I’m therefore approaching this like I would an academic essay. Lots of sources, quotes, references and so on. Only the truth will do.
This video is discussing events or concepts that are academic, educational and historical in nature. This video is for informational purposes and was created so we may better understand the past and learn from the mistakes others have made.
