Colonial Glory And World War 1 Reality - British Field Marshal John French I WHO DID WHAT IN WW1?
British Field Marshal John French was a soldier through and through and had a glorious career during the colonial era of the British Empire, but all the battles around the world couldn’t prepare him for modern war. His experience in the Boer Wars and in the Mahdist War made John French a rising star in the military. But when he was leading the British Army landing in Belgium in August 1914, neither he or the public were prepared for the new realities of World War 1 with huge casualties and trench warfare.

Veteran British filmmaker Philip Saville directs the religious epic The Gospel of John| a production of the Canadian company Visual Bible International. This three-hour drama attempts to accurately follow the Gospel According to John| written sometime during the first century. The gospel contains four segments: an introduction to the nature of Jesus Christ; testimony by disciples and the presence of miracles; the Last Supper and crucifixion; and the appearance of the risen Christ. Henry Ian Cusick plays Jesus and Christopher Plummer provides voice-over narration. The Gospel of John was shown in a special presentation at the 2003 Toronto Film Festival.
-------------------------------------------------
The Gospel of John was written two generations after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
It is set in a time when the Roman Empire controlled Jerusalem.
Although crucifixion was the preferred Roman method of punishment, it was not one sanctioned by Jewish law.
Jesus and all his early followers were Jewish.
The Gospel reflects a period of unprecedented polemic and antagonism between the emerging church and the religious establishment of the Jewish people.

John French essentially captured elegance. Unlike other photographers of the early 1960s he had a certain magic, incorporating both a sense of 1950s refinement whilst also showcasing contemporary 1960s style and muses - Jean Shrimpton being just one.
In looks he had a sense of YSL about him with whom he shared a passion for rigorous grace. His career was curtailed early but he nevertheless left an indelible print on 1960s fashion photography.
The background music is Sparks by Royksopp and the moving images are from the Melbourne Cup in 1965 (a year before John French's death).
