Elway played college football at Stanford and his entire 16-year professional career with the Denver Broncos. At the time of his retirement in early 1999, Elway recorded the most victories by a starting quarterback and statistically was the second most prolific passer in NFL history. He was also a prolific rusher of the ball, being one of only two players ever to score a rushing touchdown in four different Super Bowls (the other being Thurman Thomas) and the only quarterback to do so. (156 attempts) As Denver's quarterback, he led his teams to six AFC Championship Games and five Super Bowls, winning two. All totaled, he is a three-time Super Bowl winner with the Broncos, as he was Executive VP/GM of the team when they won Super Bowl 50.
Elway set several career records for passing attempts and completions while at Stanford and also received All-American honors. He was the first selection in the 1983 NFL Draft, famously known as the quarterback class of 1983, where he was taken by the Baltimore Colts before being traded to the Denver Broncos. In January 1987, Elway embarked on one of the most notable performances in sports and in NFL history, helping engineer a 98-yard, game-tying touchdown drive in the AFC Championship Game against the Cleveland Browns. The moment is known in National Football League lore as "The Drive." Following that game in Cleveland, Elway and the Broncos lost in Super Bowl XXI to the New York Giants. It was the first of a then-record five Super Bowl starts for Elway; the mark held until February 2015 when Tom Brady of the New England Patriots started Super Bowl XLIX.
"You want to get involved and be a part of something that there's a chance to raise a whole bunch of money. We can all donate money, but you want to do more."
"I was definitely on Eli's side. Why is there the perception of being a spoiled brat? If you've got some talent and you're in demand, why not try to go someplace where you can be happy?"
"That place ain't loud anymore. It might be too comfortable."
"I finally got to the point during the season when at lunch I couldn't swallow. I had heartburn for quite a while, but it just kept getting worse and worse. When I couldn't swallow and food was actually coming back up, I knew the problem was more than simple heartburn."
"I would get a sour taste in my mouth and experience heartburn quite often, so I took antacids. But as time went on, the antacids helped less and less. For a long time, I tried to take care of the problem before the problem finally got so bad that I went to see a doctor."
"Reaching this number so quickly is truly a testament to Crush fans who have been so loyal and supportive of this team from day one. It is our goal as an organization to make sure this team is something that Crush fans can be proud of both on and off the field."
"We're excited to be teaming with Fox Sports Net Rocky Mountain to bring Crush games to our fans. We are looking forward to a long partnership that we feel will benefit both entities. In addition, we are glad to build on the AFL's already strong national relationship with FSN by working together with Fox Sports Net Rocky Mountain."
"We get done with the game, and it's an absolute downpour 30 minutes later. That's when I thought God was telling me that's enough-time for you to go do something else."
"I had a great time doing Vegas. It's just that it takes a lot of time."
"I don't have any pangs to where I want to be with the Broncos."
"I always believe there's a reason why you go through everything."

Cab driver praises John Elway as greatest QB ever, then realizes he’s in the car
If you’re a cab driver and you suddenly find yourself with a car full of passengers asking you about your favorite quarterbacks of all time, you may want to have a look in the back seat before answering.
That was the lesson learned for Sam Snow, the driver shown in the video below. Snow recently provided a ride for former Denver Broncos quarterback (and current team president) John Elway and a few of the gunslinger’s companions. Snow apparently didn’t get a great look at his passengers before letting them in the car, because he initially didn’t realize that he was in Elway’s presence despite insisting that he’d recognize Elway if he saw him.
