John Browne was an English merchant, the first holder of the post of King's Gunfounder, which was created in 1615. He was heavily involved in the Wealden iron industry, having control of six furnaces in Surrey and Sussex, two in the Forest of Dean as well as his own furnace between Brenchley and Horsmonden.
Biography
During the reign of Charles I, he sold a great number of guns to the former United Provinces, the King being a partner in this traffic.
Browne also held a patent which gave him a monopoly on the casting of pots, pans and firebacks.
John Browne developed a type of cannon known as "The Drake" in the 1620s. This cannon was much lighter than previous cannons firing a similar weight of shot, thus enabling ships to be more heavily armed. One such cannon made by Browne was recovered from the wreck of HMS Swan, a 200 long tons (200t) Cromwellian warship lost in a storm off the Isle of Mull in 1653 whilst attacking Duart Castle. This cannon weighed 3cwt, 2qtrs, 23lbs (415 pounds (188kg)) and had a 3½" (89mm) muzzle. It fired shot weighing 4 pounds (1.81kg). HMS Swan was the last ship built for Charles I; its guns were all cast in iron. A larger ship, HMS Sovereign of the Seas had 92 Drakes, cast in bronze, as well as 10 non-Drakes, also cast in bronze.
John Ernest Douglas Delavalette Browne (born 17 October 1938) is a former British politician who is currently acting as an economic and financial consultant in West Palm Beach, Florida, USA.
Early life
Browne was educated at Malvern College, Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Cranfield Institute of Technology and Harvard Business School. He served as an officer in the Grenadier Guards from 1959 to 1967 and in the Grenadier Guards (V), retiring as a Major. On graduation from Harvard, he joined Morgan Stanley & Co. on Wall Street. On returning to England, he became Director, Middle East Operations of European Banking Company, a director of Worms Investments, The Churchill Clinic, Scansat TV, a Court Member of Southampton University and an Advisor to Control Risks and to Barclays Bank. He served as the Councillor for Knightsbridge on the Westminster City Council from 1974 to 1978.
Parliamentary career
Browne was Conservative PartyMember of Parliament for Winchester from 1979 to 1992. In parliament, he sponsored The Privacy Bill, The Armed Forces Liability for Injury Bill and one Act of Parliament to further the protection of animals. He was elected Chairman of the Conservative Backbench Small Business Committee (1984–87) and Secretary of the Conservative Backbench Finance (1981–83) and Defence (1982–83) Committees; appointed a Member of the Treasury Select Committee (1982–87) and a Delegate to the North Atlantic Assembly (1986–92) where he was Rapporteur on Human Rights (1989–92).
Doctor John Symonds Lyon Browne (April 13, 1904– January 21, 1984) was an English-born Canadian physician.
He was born in Wembley, London, the son of a civil engineer, and came to Canada with his family in 1905. In 1912, the family moved to Montreal. Browne was educated at Westmount High School and at McGill University. He went on to work in Germany, Austria and England under a travelling fellowship from the Royal Society of Canada. Browne returned to McGill as a research fellow, later becoming a professor of medicine, Medical Department chairman and director of the Royal Victoria Hospital. He was forced to leave those positions due to failing eyesight but served as chairman of the Department of Investigative Medicine from 1955 until his retirement in 1960.
In 1964, he helped establish the Conseil du recherche medical du Quebec, later known as the Fonds de la recherche en santé du Québec, and also helped found the Canadian Clinical Investigation Travel Club, later the Canadian Society for Clinical Investigation.

By publicly defending that legacy, it enlists the aid of other friends of free civilization and thus secures the conditions of its own survival and independence.
