John Baguley Brooks (1856 – 8 March 1886) was an English lawyer and Conservative politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1885 to 1886.
Brooks was the only son of the Rev. John Brooks, rector of Walton-le-Dale, Lancashire and his wife Anne Jones daughter of John Jones of Shackerley Hall, Shropshire. Brooks was educated at Harrow School and Merton College, Oxford, where he won the Newdigate Prize in 1877. He graduated with honours from the School of History and Political Economy. In 1881, he was called to the Bar at Inner Temple and was a J.P. for Cheshire and Berkshire.
In the 1885 general election, Brooks was elected MP for the newly created constituency of Altrincham. However he fell ill at his home in Eaton Place on the evening of 3 March 1886, on his return from the House of Commons and died of "congestion of the lungs" five days later.
Baguley is derived from the Old English words Bagca, badger, and Leah, wood.
Historically in Cheshire, Baguley is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. It was incorporated into Manchester in 1931.
History
Baguley Hall is a 14th-century timber-framed manor house that may have replaced an 11th- or 12th-century house.
Most of Baguley was developed for housing after World War II as part of the Wythenshawe Estate, including many council houses and later tower blocks; Manchester City Council publications refer to Baguley as "one of Europe's biggest housing estates". However, much of the social housing has been sold off under the "Right To Buy" scheme and there are also several private housing developments in the area; and parkland was provided from the start under the development plan.
This is the Story of the Road the Brooks Family built through their estate to the newly build Brooklands Station.

BMR Kato n gauge railcar with lights
This shows how I added front and rear lights to my Budget Model Railways / Kato 11-105 railcar.
I used TruOpto Bi-colour Red / White LEDs. They are rated at 12V 10mA ... but I've connected each pair in series to cut the brightness. The camera exaggerates their brightness.
I run my locos from 12V PWM controllers (LED dimmers).
The layouts you partly see are: Filingnook (fits in a box file); my 6' x 3' layout (Endham in the intro, Frontleigh at the end).

The Wolfe Brothers are heading in to the future with 'No Brakes'
Any history of The Wolfe Brothers that doesn’t begin four generations ago isn’t quite complete. The revered country duo, comprised of brothers Nick and Tom Wolfe, have become renowned over the past few years for their jaw-dropping live shows and slow-but-steady ascent to Australian country music’s upper echelon. Part of their rise has been due to talent, and a lot of it due to hard work. But the truth is that music is in The Wolfe Brothers’ blood.
Their father, the man who encouraged them to start playing and helped facilitate their first shows in their early teens, was a rock drummer. His father played saxophone, touring around the brothers’ home state of Tasmania with a family band. And his father — Nick and Tom’s great-grandfather — was a fiddle player. So to say that The Wolfe Brothers’ story begins anywhere except four generations ago would be disingenuous; it would be ignoring the tides of history.
If the musical gene was already in Nick and Tom’s DNA, it was their parents who brought it to full bloom. Their father guided Nick to the guitar and Tom to the piano, and their mother filled the family home with music, exposing her children to 90s country staples like Garth Brooks and Billy Ray Cyrus. It was almost an inevitability that the Wolfe family home would produce two of Australia’s finest country musicians.
And The Wolfe Brothers are continuing to produce amazing tracks, adding their latest single ‘No Brakes’ to their catalogue and kicking off the decade with their sites on continuing to make their mark on other shores while continuing to make their mark at home with the start of Wolfe Fest in January of this year!
Nick and Tom Wolfe join the DTP to discuss making their debut in Canada at the 2019 Calgary Stampede, staying connected with their dedicated fan base, and their new song ‘No Brakes’, among many other topics!
