Many actors and actresses struggle to replicate the success of their big break. This was true for Erin, who was only able to land small parts in a few movies and TV shows.
A lack of work put the actress in a state of depression. She longed to return to happy days of old but could only find bit parts in lesser-known movies and TV shows.
Erin also suffered from money woes. Help came for a short time in the form of a sizeable breach-of-contract settlement the Happy Days cast earned from NBC. The relief ended after she quickly spent all the money it gave her.
Erin and her husband first lost their home to foreclosure in 2010. They lived with his mother until 2012 when she kicked them out after a drunken brawl.
The couple stayed at seedy hotels to avoid complete homelessness for years. She even had to get a “normal job” when she failed to land any acting roles.
Erin was diagnosed with cancer only 5 months before her death. She went to treatment but was unable to fight it off once it spread throughout her body. Her husband said that she was by his side when she died in a trailer park in Lousiville, Kentucky.
Erin Moran began to write her memoir before her death, but it went unfinished. Unless it gets taken up by another writer, her performance on Happy Days will be all we have to remember her by.
