It gives me much pleasure to put this up for my friend, Robin.,Jimmy's daughter.It's one of an ongoing series I'm putting up,as a TRIBUTE to this very fine trombonist & Band leader.Here we have him in the a "Mingus Dynasty " Band.As you know these Bands were conceived to ensure that the creative flame of Charles Mingus will continue to burn brightly.However, it is Jimmy's flame that has dazzles here."Boogie Stop Shuffle " is SO aply titled ! I have this complete title which lasts for 30 mins.From the private collection of Colin Kellam...if anyone has any personal recollections;photograghs;old concert programmes;video footage;private audio tapes..Robin & I would very much appreciate hearing from you.We are building up an archive of Jimmy's career.We also plan to modify:ammend Jimmy's "Wiki...

IMPORTANT NOTICE !!I put this up @ the request of my friend Robin ( Jimmy's daughter ) I rec'd this video on the basis, that the musicians concerned were fine about being filmed.However, of course, I can only go on the information I'm given.So IF any of the other musicians involvedn are unhappy about my TRIBUTE posting.Just contact me ,via my Web Site as below.I shall then immediately take it down.This is my STRICT policy with ALL my postings.But this would be both a shame & a disappointment for Jummiy's daughter.
I also ,OF COURSE put this up as a TRIBUTE to one of the music's finest trombone players.Jimmy very sadly left us on June 14th,2003 & joined "The Great Majority " ( Hope he & Ming have now made it up..about Jimmy's teeth !!).I have this complete session ,which lasts 100mins....

This time we find Jimmy "@ the helm" as Leader, of this SUPERB "Ming" Superband".I have kicked this edit off with a solo from Jimmy..he then takes the Band through that fine Ming composition "The Shoe's Of The Fisherman's Wife. James Minter Knepper (November 22, 1927 – June 14, 2003) was an American jazz trombonist. In addition to his own recordings as leader, Knepper performed and recorded with Charlie Barnet, Woody Herman, Claude Thornhill, Stan Kenton, Benny Goodman, Gil Evans, Thad Jones and Mel Lewis, Toshiko Akiyoshi and Lew Tabackin, and, most famously, Charles Mingus in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
While he was playing Funny Girl, Knepper became a member of the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, a big band formed by trumpeter Thad Jones and drummer Mel Lewis around 1965, which began the 40-year tradition of Monday night jazz shows at th...

I put this up as a TRIBUTE to "James M. ( Jimmy ) Knepper,who very sadly departed his mortal coil,on June 14th,2003.He is MUCH missed ! All posts are rendered in old school using restored vinyl LPs. This channel does not use recordings from CDs. As much as possible, I attempted to remove most of the pops and crackles from the original vinyl album. Some remastering was applied to make the performance cut through within the confines of the loudness wars.

I put this up as a TRIBUTE to "James M. ( Jimmy ) Knepper,who very sadly departed his mortal coil,on June 14th,2003.He is MUCH missed ! Obviously by his loving family.However, anyone who professes to REALLY listen to a truly creative " ' bone", MUST include Jimmy in that Pantheon of exponents of this instrument.His association with Mingwould -in itself - suffice to retain his place in Jazz History.My secondary reason for this posting,is to afford pleasure to his daughter & family.His daughter Robin, has particularly asked me to pass on any infomation appertaining to footage or audio only - of her dad - that I acquire.So folks ,please help us & contact me,via my Web Site @ www.allthatjazz-ondvd.co.uk Please use my "Contact Me" page.NOTE: My Web site address,as above on this text page,is NOT a direct link.You hjave to "Google " me...ANY information.no matter,how small,will appreciated by Robin & myself.
