West Bank Palestinian families living in fear of extremist Israeli settlers | BBC News
Since Hamas militants killed around 1,200 people in Israel on 7 October 2023, extremist Jewish settlers in the occupied West Bank have increasingly been using violence to seize land and property forcing many Palestinians from their homes.
BBC Eye Investigations reveals how these settlers are establishing a new type of illegal settlement known as a herding outpost, giving them access to huge areas of land.
These and other outposts don't have government approval and are illegal under Israeli and international law.

Life as Jewish settler in the West Bank | DW Documentary
The West Bank: Chaya Tal is one of 430,000 Jewish settlers living among 2.7 million Palestinians. The young German is aware that her presence alone is a provocation for many Palestinians. But that does not deter her.
These days the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Kingdom of Bahrain want to establish diplomatic relations with Israel, as the third and fourth Arab countries, after Egypt and Jordan. In return for the agreement, Israel wants to suspend the planned annexation of areas in the occupied West Bank, which the Palestinians claim for their own state.
"Personally, I don't see a problem in our living here", says Chaya Tal, "but rather how we live here." She believes that isolation is not the way out of the decades of confrontation in the region, but that it is by talking to each oth...

West Bank settler expansion: a year on the frontline
In the West Bank tensions between Israelis and Palestinians have been a fact of life for decades.

But since the October 7th attacks, the situation has only got worse, with hundreds of Palestinians being killed - and more illegal Israeli settlements spreading across the land.
Filmmaker Katie Arnold has been following a Palestinian Bedouin family South of Hebron for over a year, around the district of Masafer Yatta, where Palestinians feel under siege from groups of emboldened settlers encroaching on their land.

What are Israeli settlements and why are they illegal under international law?
In 1977, 11,000 Israelis lived in settlements in occupied territories.
Today more than 700,000 settlers – 10 percent of Israel’s 7 million Jewish population – now live in 150 illegal settlements and 128 outposts dotting the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
Activists and legal specialists have argued that settlements are a major obstacle to the peace process, fragmenting the occupied West Bank and causing profound hardship in Palestinian life.
And yet settlements, backed by the Israeli government, continue to expand. So what exactly are they?

Just like in #Gaza, violence in the occupied West Bank didn’t start on October 7. But violent attacks by settlers or soldiers have reached record-high levels.
We traveled to Qusra, where 6 people were killed in less than 24 hours by settlers.
Al Jazeera English Digital Correspondent Zena Al Tahhan was harassed multiple times by the #Israeli army while trying to report on this story.

Jewish settlers step up violent attacks on Palestinians in occupied West Bank | BBC News
Allies of Israel have condemned a sharp rise in attacks by armed Jewish settlers on Palestinian civilians in the West Bank.
Religious jews in illegal settlements on territory that is occupied by Israel claim the land was given to them by God.
The war in Gaza has led to an intensification of violence in the West Bank, with the heavily-armed settlers attacking Palestinian communities.
Palestinians say the settlers have been armed by Israel and are protected by Israeli soldiers. The settlers leaders claim they are protecting themselves.
Reeta Chakrabarti presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Jeremy Bowen.
