Biography
Early life
Butler was born in Sunflower, Mississippi in 1939. The mid-1950s had a profound impact on Butler's life. He grew up poor, having lived in Chicago's Cabrini–Green housing complex. Music and the church provided solace from a the poverty of the slums he lived in, and difficulties of a predominantly segregated society. He performed in a church choir with Curtis Mayfield. As a teenager, Butler sang in a gospel quartet called Northern Jubilee Gospel Singers, along with Mayfield. Mayfield, a guitar player, became the lone instrumentalist for the six-member Roosters group, which later became The Impressions. Inspired by Sam Cooke and the Soul Stirrers, the Five Blind Boys of Mississippi, and the Pilgrim Travelers, getting into the music industry seemed inevitable.
Jerome Patrick Butler (born February 27, 1951 in Sarnia, Ontario) is a retired Canadian ice hockeywinger who spent 11 seasons in the National Hockey League. During his career, he was known as a fast, gritty defensive specialist with a limited offensive upside.
Playing career
Butler was selected 55th overall in the 1971 NHL Amateur Draft despite scoring only 6 goals in junior the previous season. He spent most of his first two professional seasons in the minors, earning an 8-game callup during the 1972–73 season during which he scored his first NHL goal. Called up again late in the 1973–74 campaign, he impressed with 16 points in 26 games, and remained with the team during the playoffs, appearing in 12 of 13 games.
In 1974–75, Butler's first full NHL season, he recorded 17 goals and 16 assists for 33 points in 78 games, and earned a positive reputation for his speed, hustle, and quality defensive play. However, at the conclusion of the season he was traded to the St. Louis Blues as the centerpiece of a deal for star goaltender John Davidson.
Jerry Butler (born May 13, 1959) is an American retired pornographic film actor, a popular male performer in a career which lasted from 1981 to 1993 and included more than 500 films.
Butler initially tried his luck at mainstream acting, performing in a variety of Off-Broadway plays. He also had a few walk-ons on the long-running soap One Life to Live (1978) as well as an uncredited appearance in Frank Henenlotter's horror classic Basket Case (1982). He was generally unhappy with the constant pressure to sleep with men in exchange for parts, and began to slowly grow tired of the wasted effort.
He first got into hardcore in 1981 after answering an ad in "Backstage Magazine" looking for hardcore actors. He went in to audition for a non-sex role and after a little persuading, ended up with a hardcore sex role in the 1981 film Young, Wild and Wonderful.

Jerry Butler - For Your Precious Love
JERRY BUTLER
LYRICS:
Your precious love
Means more to me
Than any love could ever be
For when I wanted you
I was so lonely and so blue
For that's what love will do
And darling, I'm
(I'm so surprised)
Oh, when I first realized
(I realized)
That a-you were fooling me
And darling
(Whoa-ooh)
They say that our love won't grow
But I just wanna tell them
(Ooo-ooo-ooo)
That they don't know-oh-ho
For as long
As you're in love with me
Our love will grow wider
Deeper than any sea
And of all the things that I want
In this whole wide world
Is just for you to say
That you'll be my girl
And woo-ooo-ooo
(Wanting you)
Wanting you
(Oh-ooh, I'm lonely and blue)
I'm so-whoa, lonely
(That's what love will do)

Jerry Butler - Ain't Understanding Mellow (1971)
An immensely popular song for the Ice Man. Gamble and Huff make use of the "volume" to the string section on this record. Mainstream USA were aligning themselves to the story told by the woman in this song (Brenda Lee Eager) to the man (Jerry Butler) about the understanding of their breakup. Released in November 1971, this record went on to score a #21 on the Pop Chart but was whole heartedly an overwhelmingly success on the R&B Chart at #3.

Album
The Iceman Cometh/Ice on Ice
I remember my first love affair
Somehow or another the whole darn thing went wrong
My mama had some great advice
So I thought I'd put it into words of this song, I can still hear her sayin'
Boy, oh, I see you're sittin' out there all alone
Cryin' your eyes out, 'cause the woman that you love has gone
Oh, there's gonna be, there's gonna be a whole lot of trouble in your life
Oh, so listen to me get up off your knees, 'cause only the strong survive
That's what she said
Only the strong survive
Only the strong survive
Hey, you've got to be strong, you'd better hold on
Don't go all around with your head hung down
Well, I wouldn't let that little girl know
Wouldn't let her know that she made me feel like a clown
