Jeremy Cedric Spencer (born 4 July 1948) is a British musician, best known as one of the guitarists in the original line-up of Fleetwood Mac. A member since Fleetwood Mac's inception in July 1967, he remained with the band until his abrupt departure in February 1971, when he joined a religious group called the "Children of God", now known as "The Family International", of which he is still a follower. After a pair of solo albums in the 1970s, he continued to tour as a musician, but did not release another album until 2006. Releasing further solo albums in 2012 and 2014, Spencer has also recorded as part of the folk trio Steetley.
Personal life
Spencer was born in Hartlepool, County Durham, and began taking piano lessons at the age of nine. Switching to guitar in his teens, his speciality became the slide guitar, and he was strongly influenced by the American blues musician Elmore James.
Fleetwood Mac
In the summer of 1967 Spencer came to the attention of ex-Bluesbreakers guitarist Peter Green, who was looking for another musician to join him in his new Fleetwood Mac project. Green had recruited drummer Mick Fleetwood and temporary bassist Bob Brunning, and wanted a second guitar player to fill out the sound onstage. Spencer was then playing with blues trio The Levi Set, and was already an accomplished slide guitarist and pianist. He fitted in well, and soon after his arrival the band's intended bassist John McVie eventually joined.
Jeremy Spencer is an American musician, songwriter and record producer. He is the drummer for the metal band, Five Finger Death Punch. In 2012, he was named Golden God's "Best Drummer" by Revolver Magazine and was voted Best Drummer of 2015 by Loudwire. He is the creator of
Extreme Metal Loops CDs. His autobiography, Death Punch'd—Surviving Five Finger Death Punch's Metal Mayhem, was published on September 2, 2014 by HarperCollins imprint, Dey St, and named a New York Times Celebrity Bestseller. Voted Best Drummer at the 5th Annual Loudwire Music Awards.
Career
Spencer started playing drums at age six on a drum set his grandmother purchased at Sears. After high school, he moved to Los Angeles, where he met BulletBoys guitarist, Mick Sweda. In L.A., he became friends with future 5FDP guitarist, Jason Hook. Spencer played in a number of bands, with the typical frustration of unreleased material and shelved projects—while working a variety of odd jobs—including recording tracks with heavy metal band W.A.S.P. In 2005, Spencer and former U.P.O. bassist, Zoltán Báthory, formed the heavy metal band, Five Finger Death Punch, with vocalist Ivan Moody, bassist Matt Snell (replaced by Chris Kael in 2011), and guitarist, Caleb Bingham, (replaced by Darrell Roberts in 2006, then by Jason Hook in 2009).
Jeremy Spencer is an album by Britishblues rock musician Jeremy Spencer, who was a member of Fleetwood Mac from 1967–71. Released on 23 January 1970, this was his first solo album and the first solo album by a current member of Fleetwood Mac.
The album consisted of a collection of blues and 1950s songs, many of them parodies of other artists or styles. Spencer had already proved his powers of mimicry on the first two Fleetwood Mac albums, and he used this solo project to extend this to other forms of music, such as surf pop on "Surfin' Girl". Other artists that came in for the Spencer treatment were Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley.
Accompanying Spencer on the album were the other members of Fleetwood Mac, although Peter Green was only present on one track, "String-a-long". This album can be seen as making up for Spencer's absence on the previous Fleetwood Mac album Then Play On.
On 17 October 1970, "Linda" was released as a single, with the non-album "Teenage Darling" on the B-side, composed by Spencer. During 1970 Fleetwood Mac concerts, Jeremy appeared on stage dressed as Elvis Presley, performing "Teenage Darling", with Peter Green on lead guitar.
"I've progressed from being a conceited brat during the early years. I was very rude to people when I think back on it."
"I left basically to get a different perspective on life. I wasn't satisfied with myself or the type of music I was doing. I just felt I'd dried up."
"I just like simplicity. I like simple songs, I like simple chords, simple vocals, simple lead guitar. I just like simplicity. That's just the way I like it."
"Playing live for a good cause is something I like to do. I like the response of the Indian people, I like their depth and the way they look beyond the surface of things."
"Give me anything that moves my heart, that gives me goosebumps."
"When I have sat at home with this God-given talent for music for a long time, somebody approaches me out of the blue and asks me to play for them. It's almost as though there's a force somewhere which is saying 'no sittin' around, out you go!"

Jeremy Spencer's disturbing, yet humorous account of living the Rock Star dream -- from a childhood with a creative, loving family; through a destructive drug-addled adolescence; to the 15-year journey (sober) of trying to make it in the music business -- only to achieve that sought-after dream which nearly ended in a meth, alcohol and cocaine nightmare.
