Meet the Artists | Jeff Koons
The shiny surfaces of Jeff Koons’ sculptures have become a byword for the artist’s work. Polished to perfection, they negate the idea of manual fabrication and stand as pristine totems to human desire. Koons’ balloon dogs, dolphins, and oversized hearts capture the contemporary poetry of pop culture while taunting humans’ inner magpies. ‘Shine’ is thus an apt theme for the artist’s major retrospective upcoming at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence – one that runs through his entire oeuvre. In this new episode of ‘Meet the artists’, Koons welcomes Art Basel to his legendary New York studio and shares his thoughts on this most elusive of concepts.

As his retrospective travels from the Whitney Museum in New York to the Pompidou in Paris, and now the Guggenheim in Bilbao, imagine… examines the controversial artist.
This film looks at just who Jeff Koons is and what it is that makes his work so different. Will his balloons float above the art market bubble and hold their place in the history of art?
The documentary occasionally cuts the sound out because of copyright issues with songs, but no dialogue or narration is missing.
