Family Camping Northern- Style, a Winter Camping & Ice Fishing Adventure with the Kids
Join me, Jim Baird, my wife Tori, our kids Hudson and Wesley, and our Husky dog North on a thrilling winter camping adventure in Northern Ontario. We snowmobiled across a frozen lake, set up a cozy canvas wall tent with a wood stove, and cooked venison steaks. The next day, we caught a big Splake ice fishing, enjoyed a campfire dinner, and gathered firewood as a family.
With a beautiful sunrise, we cooked bacon and eggs for breakfast on the wood stove. Navigating the thinning ice was a bit nerve-wracking, but we made it safely off the lake. Experience the joy and challenges of winter camping with us in the wild as we bond over delicious meals and outdoor adventures. Join us for this unforgettable fami...

Stranded by Wind on a Floating Cabin - Into Alaska E.13 | 10-Days Family Camping in the Northern BC and Alaskan Wild - the Stikine River
Hey everyone, Jim Baird here, and I'm thrilled to present the final episode of "Into Alaska." This chapter of our adventure brought us to the untamed Stikine River in Northern BC and Alaska, where we embarked on a 10-day family canoe trip in search of remote hot springs. Despite our determination, the hot springs remained elusive, and we found ourselves battling relentless rain, hoping for a break in the weather. One night, as the rain poured down, we faced a moment of crisis when we realized our campsite was at risk of flooding. In the pitch-black darkness, at 4:30 am, we had to hastily relocate our tent to high...

First Time at Our New Off-Grid, Water Access Wilderness Cabin! Summer Fun, Setting Up & Fishing
Come along with me and my family as we dive headfirst into the wild unknown of our new off-grid water access cabin tucked away in the stunning Canadian wilderness. It was a real adventure getting there, cruising through the waters on a long boat ride to finally unlock the door to our rustic paradise. We spent our days basking in the summer heat, swimming, setting up our dock, and exploring the rugged beauty that surrounded us.
One highlight was stumbling upon a hidden waterfall and sharing a special moment teaching my son how to clean fish by the crackling campfire. The fish fry that followed was a feast for the ages under the twinkling night sky. Of course, Mother Nature had her say too, keeping us grounded the next day with strong winds and rough waves. But that just set the stage for our next escapade - a canoe adventure to uncover the secrets of the backcountry lakes. Stay tuned for more tales of our wild family escapades at our off-grid retreat!

Rugged Wilderness North of Lake Superior - Seven Days Camping on a Remote Whitewater River
Embark on a thrilling adventure with us as we take on a seven-day whitewater canoe trip down the remote and challenging Dog River, also known as the, Nimoosh River, and University River. This journey pushes the limits with its relentless rapids and wild, untamed beauty. From navigating intense whitewater to mastering technical maneuvers, every moment is a test of skill and endurance. Joining us on this epic expedition are renowned YouTubers @TheRealTedBaird , @XanderBudnick , his brother @maximbudnick , Brad Jennings of @ExploreTheBackcountry , and Brad's buddy Cam. Together, we'll paddle through this rugged wilderness, experiencing the raw power and stunning scenery of the Dog River. Each bend in the river reveals new challenges which include massive waterfalls and breathtaking vistas.
Our expedition continues as we transition from the turbulent river to the majestic expanse of Lake Superior's north shore. Here, the serene yet exposed coastline presents its own set of challenges and rewards. The vastness of the lake, with its cold, clear waters and towering cliffs, offers a striking contrast to the river's rapid-filled course. Alongside Ted, Xandar, Maxim, Brad, and Cam, we'll navigate this iconic stretch of shoreline, where the views are nothing short of spectacular—crystal blue waters meeting dramatic rocky outcrops under the wide northern sky. We also mange to catch a mess of fish and stop for a shore lunch feast along the big lake. Join us for an unforgettable journey where the thrill of whitewater meets the serene beauty of one of North America's greatest lakes, capturing the essence of adventure and the untamed spirit of the Canadian wilderness.

Stranded by Wind on a Floating Cabin - Into
Alaska E.13 | 10-Days Family Camping in the Northern BC and Alaskan Wild - the Stikine River
In the pitch-black darkness, at 4:30 am, we had to hastily relocate our tent to higher ground, a challenging and unnerving task. The following morning, with the rain persisting, we pressed on, only to encounter strong winds and growing whitecaps on the river. With our pickup point 10 km away and the conditions becoming increasingly hazardous, we made the difficult but necessary decision to seek refuge near a floating cabin, a fascinating feature of this Alaskan landscape.
Using our InReach Satellite texting device, we called a jet boat at the cabin, and we quickly set about building a temporary shelter. The next day, the weather finally took a turn for the better, it was a beautiful day with a calm ocean and we could have paddled right to Wrangell. That’s how she goes sometimes I guess. After a couple days in town, checking out ancient petroglyphs on a beach and exploring town, we hoped back in a jet boat and took a nine hour jet boat trip all the way back up to Telegraph Creek. It was awesome seeing the places we’d seen on our way down and reflecting on all out experiences. This adventure has tested our resilience, and I'm immensely thankful for the experience. To all of you who have joined us on this incredible journey, thank you for your support and for being part of our adventure.

The mother of a "supremely courageous and inspiring" British soldier who died as he protected the lives of his comrades in a battle with Taliban fighters in Afghanistan has spoken of her pride after accepting his posthumous Victoria Cross. Kerry Ashworth, 44, said no words could describe her feelings after receiving the VC from the Queen in a private ceremony at Buckingham Palace on behalf of her son, 23-year-old Lance Corporal James Ashworth, of 1st Battalion The Grenadier Guards. "There are no words that can describe the feeling - I am so very, very proud," she said.

Celebrating the Life and Achievements of Sir James McGrigor
On Friday 9th April, 2021 it was the 250th anniversary of the birth of one of Aberdeen's great men of medicine. Sir James McGrigor; physician, military surgeon and botanist, is considered to be largely responsible for the creation of the Royal Army Medical Corps and he served as Rector of the University of Aberdeen. An obelisk to his memory now stands in Duthie Park, Aberdeen, and a statue was erected in Westminster, and later moved to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
As it was not possible to host a public event at the obelisk in Duthie Park for this anniversary, an online tribute hosted by MedChi and the University of Aberdeen was arranged in its place. We were delighted to welcome members of the McGrigor family to be part of this celebration and Brigadier TJ Hodgetts.

STORYLINE:
Troops in two British vehicles escaped unharmed after heavy attacks from Iraqi forces on Tuesday.
Commander David Baird's Challenger 2 tank was hit by an anti-tank missile and a series of rocket propelled grenades (RPG), but the crew escaped unhurt.
The tank was leading an assault by the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards and the Royal Marines, south of Basra.
But the crew was left exposed and unable to see outside the vehicle after the main sights were destroyed by a guided missile.
The tank then was reversed into a ditch and was the driver was unable to manoeuvre out again.
In the same area on Tuesday, one of the Irish Guard's Warrior fighting vehicles was hit by an RPG, causing superficial damage.
The captain, James Moulton, was unaware that they had been hit and said the incident gave him confidence in the level of protection inside the vehicles.
