The magazine features nonfiction articles, short stories, poems, games, comics, recipes, crafts, and more. Having been continuously produced for nearly 75 years, it is one of the oldest American magazines for kids.
Mission
As part of the Children’s Better Health Institute—a division of the Saturday Evening Post Society Inc., a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization—Jack and Jill’s mission is to promote the healthy physical, educational, creative, social, and emotional growth of children in a format that is engaging, stimulating, and entertaining for children ages 7 to 12.
History
Jack and Jill magazine was launched by Curtis Publishing Company in 1938. It was the first addition to the Curtis line of magazines since it purchased Country Gentleman in 1911. The first editor of Jack and Jill was Ada Campbell Rose daughter-in-law of Philip Sheridan Rose, the editor of Country Gentleman. The magazine's circulation grew to half a million before newsstand sales (but not subscriptions) were suspended during World War II due to paper shortages. Newsstand sales returned in 1948. Ada Campbell Rose continued as editor until 1959. The magazine began to accept outside advertising in 1962. Today the magazine is one of three children's magazines published by the U.S. Kids unit of Saturday Evening Post Society. In 2009, Jack and Jill merged with Children's Digest, another kids magazine from the same publisher.
Jack and Jill (J&J, the US term) or Dance with a Stranger (DWAS, the UK term) is a format of competition in partner dancing, where the competing couples are the result of random matching of leaders and followers. Rules of matching vary.
The name and format were created by Jack Carey at Hank & Stans in Norwalk, California in the early 1950s to encourage a variety of dancers to enter competitions.
The gender-ambiguous term Pat and Chris has been used, particularly in LGBT dance venues, to refer to events where the gender of lead and follow isn't specified. In the lindy community in the U.S. a Jill and Jack, though less common, is a competition where the leads are required to be female and the follows to be male.
In dance competitions J&J is included as a separate division (or divisions, with additional gradations).
J&J is popular at Swing conventions, as well as at ballroom dance competitions in the US.
J&J competitions are intended to test social dance skills, whereas fixed partner competitions test performance dance skills.
Jack and Jill was a British children's comics magazine published between 27 February 1954 and 29 June 1985, a run of approximately 1,640 issues.
The title was derived from the nursery rhyme of the same title but the characters 'Jack and Jill of Buttercup Farm' were otherwise unrelated. 'Jack and Jill of Buttercup Farm' was the cover strip for many years, originally drawn by Hugh McNeill and later by Antonio Lupatelli.
The stories of 'Jack and Jill' were related in rhyming couplets, as were a number of other early stories, although by the end of the 1970s the stories were written in normal prose form. Others were told in captions below the illustrations or text comics, a style of storytelling common to pre-war nursery comics such as Puck and Rainbow.

The 1, 2, 3 Rhymes for You and Me, Facebook page is set up and managed by the West Limerick Primary Health Care Project for Travellers, West Limerick Resources - and we are promoting nursery rhymes with parents and caregivers of children aged 0-5 years in West Limerick.
In 2015 & 2016 we worked with Limerick City Traveller Health Advocacy Project and HSE Speech and Language Therapy Services- CHO3 to produce a beautiful new nursery rhyme book. The nursery rhymes in the book were chosen by members of the Traveller community in Limerick City and County and most of us are mothers ourselves.
There are 8 nursery rhymes because research has found that if your child knows 8 nursery rhymes by heart by the time, they are 4 years old, they will be better readers by the time they are 8 years old.
In 2021, together with SICAP, the Social Inclusion Community Activation Programme, at West Limerick Resources we developed the 1,2,3, Nursery Rhymes for You and Me book into this video series. We hope that you enjoy taking part and would very much like to hear your experiences of this series.

I wish I could say such a thing! I was reading horse books, dog books, the Baba Yaga stories in Jack and Jill magazine ... I sent it to Seventeen magazine ... I sent a paper off to a scholarly magazine about ...
Before entering the doors at Dorsch MemorialLibrary, 18 E ... They love it ... McWebb started jotting down the stories she made up for the children and later became a contributor to “Children’s Activities Magazine” and “Jack and Jill” magazine.
“That’s pretty cool,” Youso said when I showed her the magazine ... But it’s Wisconsin that gets the royal treatment by Curtis, which also published the Ladies Home Journal and the children’s magazine Jack & Jill.
