Foundation: How Isaac Asimov Changed Science Fiction Forever
Hey guys, it’s Quinn! Today we will be discussing what is without a doubt the most influential science fiction book Saga of all time, Asimov’s Foundation, and of course the associated works. Nowadays science fiction is known for its giant space empires with interconnecting politics, battles among the stars, and decades and even centuries-long plots with many different characters. Even robotic lifeforms have become a staple of science fiction. But these things were not always standard in the genre. Isaac Asimov, born January 2, 1920, is essentially credited with inventing the Galactic Empire. Asimov also coined the term “Robotics” and the term “Positronic'' both of which were used in one of the greatest Science Fiction shows of all time, 1987’s Star Trek The Next Generation, for the android...

Isaac Asimov's Foundation Explained In FIVE Minutes! (Some Spoilers)
Isaac Asimov’s Foundation Series was the first-ever science fiction series to contain a full-fledged galactic empire. The entire series involves the centuries-long plan of a man known as Hari Seldon, to restore the human galactic empire after a great crash that led to a dark age. Hari Seldon was able to predict the fall of the first galactic empire by use of a form of mathematics known as psychohistory, which was able to predict human behavior overtime at mass.
Essentially the empire fell due to the capital planet, Trantor's inability to adequately handle the bureaucratic and administrative demands of such a large empire, containing 25 Million worlds. Hari Seldon’s Solution would ultimately prove to be extremely complicated and multifaceted, but it is presented initially as the creation ...

2020 Isaac Asimov Memorial Debate: Alien Life
Neil deGrasse Tyson, Frederick P. Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium, hosts and moderates a lively discussion about how life might have formed on Earth and explores what alien life might look like elsewhere in the universe. What criteria do we use to classify life as we know it? Should the criteria be revised as we look for life on other worlds?

Isaac Asimov's Vision of Humanity's Future | Foundation Ending Explained
One of the key facts about human beings is that each of us is individual and yet we live in societies that sometimes act as superorganisms, it is very difficult for one individual to steer the course of the whole species. This is sometimes a good thing there moments that the human spirit seems to join as one and great things can be accomplished. And this is sometimes also a bad thing, for example, man-lead climate change is an issue that scientists have known about for quite some time, but the human entity runs on oil, the actions of a single individual would have little impact to slow the rate of change. The organism moves on its own, even if everyone watching this video somehow finds a way to never contribute to fossil fuel emissions ever again for the rest of their lives this would esse...

Asimov also coined the term “Robotics” and the term “Positronic'' both of which were used in one of the greatest Science Fiction shows of all time, 1987’s Star Trek The Next Generation, for the android character, Data, whose positronic mind was a focal point of many episodes. These words, like many of the terms and concepts used in Asimov's books and short stories, have become commonplace in science fiction. This becomes clearer when we take a look at what science fiction was before 1940.

Essentially the empire fell due to the capital planet, Trantor's inability to adequately handle the bureaucratic and administrative demands of such a large empire, containing 25 Million worlds. Hari Seldon’s Solution would ultimately prove to be extremely complicated and multifaceted, but it is presented initially as the creation of the Foundation. The Foundation would be founded on the distant world of Terminus and would have an encyclopedist whose job was to record all human knowledge in the universe inside the Encyclopedia Galactica. Thousands of humans would devote themselves to the project in an effort to preserve the knowledge of all mankind in the hope that doing so they could shorten the interregnum which would follow the collapse of the empire.

Dr. Isaac Asimov was a prolific science fiction author, biochemist, and professor. This was recorded in 1982. Asimov was best known for his works of science fiction and for his popular science essays. Born in Russia in 1920 and brought to the United States by his family as a young child, he went on to become one of the most influential figures in the world of speculative fiction. He wrote hundreds of books on a variety of topics, but he's especially remembered for series like the "Foundation" series and the "Robot" series.
Asimov's science fiction often dealt with themes and ideas that pertained to the future of humanity.
The "Foundation" series for example, introduced the idea of "psychohistory" – a mathematical way of predicting the future based on large population behaviors. While we don't have psychohistory as described by Asimov, his works did reflect the belief that societies operate on understandable and potentially predictable principles.
Asimov's "Robot" series introduced the world to the Three Laws of Robotics, which are:
A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
These laws have been influential in discussions about robot ethics and the future of AI, even though they are fictional constructs.
Like many futurists and speculative authors, Asimov's predictions were a mix of hits and misses.
Hits: He anticipated the rise of computer networks and something resembling the internet. He also foresaw the idea of robotic assistants and many issues that would arise with automation and the changing nature of work.
Misses: Some of Asimov's predictions, like many other futurists', were either too optimistic in terms of timeframes or overestimated certain societal shifts. For example, while he predicted a rise in automation, some of the specifics (like how society would handle the transition) have been more complex than he foresaw.

The organism moves on its own, even if everyone watching this video somehow finds a way to never contribute to fossil fuel emissions ever again for the rest of their lives this would essentially do nothing because the human entity is far too large. This is much akin to how the individual cells in your body make up you, but the individual cells themselves have no say over your actions.
Individuality itself is often heralded as one of the virtues of mankind, but individuality is also the cause of much of the turmoil in human society. Individuality leads to chaos, though many would argue that this is a necessary vice of a free society. Individuality and free expression are part of what makes life worth living. Often when free expression and individuality are stripped, as in both the modern and history fascist regimes of the earth, societal wellbeing, in general, goes down dramatically. Fascism does not breed progress of any kind, under these types of structures the soul of mankind bleeds. The happiest societies in the world emphasize individuality and freedom.
Beyond personal individuality, humans also have a tendency to break themselves into groups, sometimes based on traits that members of that group share, sometimes based on geographical association. Different groups of humans often find themselves at odds, competing for resources and power of all forms. With such groupings prejudice also forms, and as these groups persist throughout time generation prejudices and forms and differences between groups of humans start to be distorted in the eyes of opposing groups. This of course leads to many problems in society. If mankind could view itself as a homogenous group not divided by arbitrary lines the things we could accomplish could be great. Isaac Asimov deals with some of these ideas in his Foundation book series, and that is mainly what we are here to discuss today.

A very interesting speech by Isaac Asimov in New York in which he discusses how science fiction was the dawn of the discovery of the future.
