Invisibility is the state of an object that cannot be seen. An object in this state is said to be invisible (literally, "not visible"). The term is often used in fantasy/science fiction, where objects cannot be seen by magical or technological means; however, its effects can also be demonstrated in the real world, particularly in physics and perceptual psychology classes.
Since objects can be seen by light in the visible spectrum from a source reflecting off their surfaces and hitting the viewer's eye, the most natural form of invisibility (whether real or fictional) is an object that neither reflects nor absorbs light (that is, it allows light to pass through it). This is known as
transparency, and is seen in many naturally occurring materials (although no naturally occurring material is 100% transparent).
Invisibility perception depends on several optical and visual factors. For example, invisibility depends on the eyes of the observer and/or the instruments used. Thus an object can be classified as "invisible to" a person, animal, instrument, etc. In research on sensorial perception it has been shown that invisibility is perceived in cycles.

'Invisibility cloak' that could hide tanks and troops looks closer to reality
Harry Potter’s ‘invisibility cloak’ appears closer to reality as Canadian camouflage manufacturer Hyperstealth Biotechnology has applied for patents on its ‘Quantum Stealth’ material.
The ‘inexpensive and paper-thin’ technology works by bending light around a target to either alter its position or make it vanish altogether, leaving only the background visible. It is touted to be able to obscure the positions of heavy artillery, ground troops or even entire buildings from certain viewpoints.

Can you make something invisible? Neil deGrasse Tyson and comedian Negin Farsad discover the science behind invisibility with professor of physics and optical science, Greg Gbur. What would real-life invisibility look like?
Can you be invisible in other parts of the magnetic spectrum? We discuss transparency versus invisibility and how metamaterials help us interact with different wavelengths. What does light have to do in order to make something invisible? We break down invisibility cloaks and other invisibility devices from fiction.
Could you make yourself invisible to all parts of the electromagnetic spectrum? We explore the main challenges in achieving invisibility and the difference between passive and active invisibility. How useful of a power would it be?
We discuss the interaction between waves and matter. What makes some waves reflect off matter and others pass through? Learn about x rays and how they work, plus, an at-home invisibility trick using prisms. Finally, could you make someone invisible to time?

44:17 - Is it possible to make someone invisible to time?
If your circle stays unbroken Then you're a lucky man Cause it never, never, never has for me In the palace of the virgin Lies the chalice of the soul And it's likely you might find the answer there She had thirteen years of teenage tears And never a helping hand She had fourteen more of rain before She saw the sight of land She was a photograph just ripped in half A smile inside a frown And the the light, the answer right Inside her coming down I can go away I can leave here I can be invisible And go away He was just eighteen and in-between A lady and a man He's daddy's girl in momma's world That was when he ran You know the word confused has been abused But that's just what he was And then the spark inside the dark The answer came because it said You can go away You can leave here You can be invisible Well I grew up quick and I felt the kick Of life upon a stage So I bought the book and took a fast look At just the very last page It was a single word that I'd just heard From the two that came before The only way to really stay Is to walk right out the door So I go away I'm gonna leave here I can be invisible Go away again I can go away When I leave here I can be invisible When I go away Lord you know it's right to leave here So I just became invisible I went away Disappear before your eyes You'll never touch me You'll never feel me You'll never see me again because I've just become unseen When I'm a photograph that's been torn in half We're all eighteen and we're in between We need a helping hand through the holy land to be Invisible
