The road follows the course of three major rivers, all of which form the borders of U.S. states. The southern portion of I-29 closely parallels the Missouri River from Kansas City northward to vicinity of Sioux Falls, Iowa/Sioux City, South Dakota, where it crosses and then parallels the Big Sioux River. For the northern third of the highway, it closely follows the Red River of the North.
Route description
Missouri
Near its southern terminus, I-29 is concurrent with I-35 and U.S. Route 71. The interstate diverts from U.S. 71 just north of St. Joseph and follows a sparsely populated corridor along the Missouri River to Council Bluffs. During the design phase there was an alternative sending the route further along U.S. 71 through the bigger towns of Maryville, Missouri, and Clarinda, Iowa. During the Great Flood of 1993 the Missouri River flooded this section and traffic was rerouted to U.S. 71 through Maryville and Clarinda. I-29 was closed again for about two months during the 2011 Missouri River Flood.
Interstate 29 (I-29) in the U.S. state of North Dakota runs from the state's southern border with South Dakota near Hankinson to the Canadian border just north of Pembina. The highway shares two concurrencies with U.S. Route 81 (US81). The first begins in Watertown, South Dakota and remains concurrent with I-29 across the state line to Manvel. The other is from exit203 to the Canadian border. The highway runs somewhat parallel to the Minnesota border to the east and passes through two major cities, Fargo and Grand Forks.

South Dakota to Fargo
Interstate 29 enters North Dakota, with a speed limit of 75 miles per hour, from South Dakota to the south, travelling in a north-northeasterly direction. The first exit in the state, exit 1, is to a county road built along the state line. This exit serves the Dakota Magic Casino and Hotel. Rural exits are somewhat common in North Dakota. There are exits with no major communities near them about every eight miles from the South Dakota border to Fargo. There is also one exit serving ND 11 to Hankinson and one exit serving ND 13 to Wahpeton, North Dakota.
Interstate 29 (I-29) is a north–south Interstate Highway in the midwestern United States. In the U.S. state of South Dakota, I-29 traverses on the eastern side of the state from the Iowa border near Sioux City to the North Dakota border near New Effington. On its route, I-29 passes through western portions of Sioux Falls, the state's largest city. Interstate 229, the highway's lone auxiliary route in South Dakota, serves as a bypass around southern and eastern Sioux Falls.

All of I-29 in South Dakota is included in the National Highway System, a system of highways important to the nation's defense, economy, and mobility. Average daily traffic volume on I-29 in South Dakota is relatively low by interstate highway standards. Most segments of I-29 outside of Sioux Falls receive between 5,000 and 20,000 vehicles per day, with numbers as high as 50,000 being reported in Sioux Falls.

North Dakota Department of Transportation plows rescuing stranded vehicles on Interstate 29, one mile north of Argusville, North Dakota. Last night brutal blizzard conditions in Cass County along both Interstate 29 and Interstate 94 set in around 7:00 PM, multiple vehicles became stranded and motorists were forced to spend the night in their vehicles surrounded by raging winds and blinding snow.

Extremely Icy Interstate 29 in South Dakota Makes Tough Traveling
Ice covered I-29 caused multiple vehicles to lose control this morning and end up in the median or ditch, plows were out scraping and sanding. All shots were along I-29 from the ND/SD border tp Brookings, South Dakota, except for the final clip of the jack-knifed semi, which was one mile north of the border in North Dakota. The area is just north of the impending winter storm starting later today.

Our first Midwestern Interstate! I-29 connect the largest cities in three states while somehow remaining largely rural and traffic-free. Control City Freak is updated weekly and covers every two digit Interstate Highway in America. North Dakota Department of Transportation plows rescuing stranded vehicles on Interstate 29, one mile north of Argusville, North Dakota. Last night brutal blizzard conditions in Cass County along both Interstate 29 and Interstate 94 set in around 7:00 PM, multiple vehicles became stranded and motorists were forced to spend the night in their vehicles surrounded by raging winds and blinding snow.

Road Trip #593 - I-29 North - Missouri - The Beginning - Kansas City
In this video, we begin to cover I-29. But we begin at the northern terminus of I-49, and make our way through Kansas City on US Highway 71 on Bruce R. Watkins Drive, before going through a convoluted series of Interstate Highway concurrencies, and then finally, the beginning of I-29. The video ends near Missouri exit 3A, which is at Mile 8 (the exit numbers don't coincide with the actual mileage in Missouri...more info in the video).

Ice covered I-29 caused multiple vehicles to lose control this morning and end up in the median or ditch, plows were out scraping and sanding. All shots were along I-29 from the ND/SD border tp Brookings, South Dakota, except for the final clip of the jack-knifed semi, which was one mile north of the border in North Dakota. The area is just north of the impending winter storm starting later today.

The road follows the course of three major rivers, all of which form the borders of U.S. states. The southern portion of I-29 closely parallels the Missouri River from Kansas City northward to vicinity of Sioux Falls, Iowa/Sioux City, South Dakota, where it crosses and then parallels the Big Sioux River. For the northern third of the highway, it closely follows the Red River of the North.
Route description
Missouri
Near its southern terminus, I-29 is concurrent with I-35 and U.S. Route 71. The interstate diverts from U.S. 71 just north of St. Joseph and follows a sparsely populated corridor along the Missouri River to Council Bluffs. During the design phase there was an alternative sending the route further along U.S. 71 through the bigger towns of Maryville, Missouri, and Clarinda, Iowa. During the Great Flood of 1993 the Missouri River flooded this section and traffic was rerouted to U.S. 71 through Maryville and Clarinda. I-29 was closed again for about two months during the 2011 Missouri River Flood.
