An Internet service provider (ISP) is an organization that provides services for accessing, using, the Internet. Internet service providers may be organized in various forms, such as commercial, community-owned, non-profit, or otherwise privately owned.
The Internet was developed as a network between government research laboratories and participating departments of universities. By the late 1980s, a process was set in place towards public, commercial use of the Internet. The remaining restrictions were removed by 1995, 4 years after the introduction of the World Wide Web.
In 1989, the first ISPs were established in Australia and the United States. In Brookline, Massachusetts, The World became the first commercial ISP in the US. Its first customer was served in November 1989.

In this video, you will learn how to start an ISP internet service provider business. Let's take a closer look at what goes into starting an ISP internet service provider business and how we can make yours profitable before you start one.
Being an Internet Service Provider (ISP) is a rewarding job, but launching a new service is difficult. The most significant impediment is the cost of equipment and building space. Plan where your relay signals will go, then invest in high-quality equipment to provide a fast Internet connection to your users. Maintain your configuration to keep your service stable and, if possible, expand it over time.
The first step is to find a suitable location for the ISP's data center. Your data center should be located on the upper floor of a tall building. If you set up your service in a high location, the wireless signal from your antenna will travel further. In addition, the data center must be linked to the Internet via fiber optic cables.

The internet is not a fuzzy cloud. The internet is a wire, actually buried in the ground. Computers connected directly to the internet are called "Servers," while the computers you and I use are "clients," because they are not connected directly to the internet, but through an Internet Service Provider. Routers shuttle packets of information across the internet, and transmit e-mail, pictures, and web pages.
Many people complain about their internet service, but Brandt Kuykendall did something about it. A resident of the small town of Dillon Beach, CA, he found the service to his town was too slow and expensive - so he started a DIY ISP in his garage. It took Brandt months chasing down companies to get access to internet infrastructure, but once he started Dillon Beach Internet his neighbors were clamoring for access to his faster, cheaper, and better-serviced network.
