Introduction to International Relations - International Law and International Society
Lecture 11: Legality vs. Morality in the International System
Part I: International Law and International Society
What roles do international organizations like the United Nations, European Union, and even NATO play in shaping the laws and morals of the international system? Do international organizations increasingly speak for states? Do states delegate authority to international organizations?
Does legality coincide with morality, or is there a difference between what is "legal" and what is "right"?

The international society of bad dancers - Jackson Jackson
LYRICS OVER ERE!!
Of Jackson Jackson's album "The fire is on the bird"
Hear what now, what's that sound
Rumble in the ground
Frightening the crowd
We were getting round
To getting down
Who's that over there with his scepter and crown
It's Friday night
We're all real high
Dressed just right
Feeling the vibe
We are all very beautiful people
And we don't wanna see any ugly people tonight
We're chillin' in the club
Looking like the shit
Looking like an MTV film clip
Ah shit! We're so cool that it hurts
and were playing a song that we know all the words to
But what's this
Oh no please desist
Gorilla's in the mist
Shadow's in the fog
There's a man over there with a banana in his fist
And he barks like a dog and he looks at me and says;

Lyrics:
Hot steamy night alone I wait for you
Cold brittle morning alone and I cry for you
And when you finally call
You cloak your moves in the shadows
Those days and nights I was good to you
They must not have meant very much to you
The night I needed you the most
My cries fell on deaf ears
And I'm running so hard to find it, and I'm running so fast
And I'm telling you now to leave me, our romance cannot last
And if someday I need to see you, I'll come back from the past
I'll come back and find you, I'll never leave you now
Those days and nights I was good to you
They must not have meant very much to you
The night I needed you the most
My cries fell on deaf ears
Now I don't want to play games with you
But I don't know what to say to you
The digits change so slowly now
I'm going it alone
And I'm running so hard to find it, and I'm running so fast
And I'm telling you now to leave me, our romance cannot last
And if someday I need to see you, I'll come back from the past
I'll come back and find you, I'll never leave you now

And he barks like a dog and he looks at me and says;
I'm just another bad dancer
who won't take no for an answer
You'll see us on every dance floor
Unfit and sweat slick like a cancer
We don't know how to grind our hips
We don't know how to pout with our lips
We don't know how to bump and dip
But when the beat hits well we don't give a shit
We're the international society of bad dancers
We walk up to clubs over run the bouncers
We came to reclaim the night time as our time
We fight fire with fire
There are so very very many more of us than there are of you
You're time is up
For too long we've stayed home at night
Playing scrabble and watching CSI
We are introverted

We are unfashionable

Stanford's Iranian Studies Program covers culture, art, and politics
Established in 2004 and endowed in 2006, the primary focus of the Iranian Studies Program is the interdisciplinary study of modern Iranian society, culture, politics and economy. Iran as a civilization is one of the oldest in the world. Modern Iran has been a pivotal force in shaping the crucial region of the Middle East. It is increasingly important for scholars, policy analysts, and decision-makers in every field to understand the intricacies of modern Iranian society, and the interplay between economics, religions, ideologies, and political cultures that together shape Iran’s character and behavior.

The Emergence of Iranian Nationalism: Race and the Politics of Dislocation by Reza Zia-Ebrahimi
May 28, 2019
Speaker: Reza Zia-Ebrahimi
Reza Zia-Ebrahimi discusses the origins of racial forms of Iranian nationalism by revisiting the work of Fath’ali Akhundzadeh and Mirza Aqa Khan Kermani, two Qajar-era intellectuals. In their efforts to make sense of Iran's shortcomings in the nineteenth century, these thinkers advanced an ideology Zia-Ebrahimi terms as "dislocative nationalism," in which pre-Islamic Iran is cast as a golden age, Islam is reinterpreted as an alien religion, and Arabs are represented as implacable others. Dislodging Iran from its empirical reality and tying it to Europe and the Aryan race, this ideology remains the most politically potent form of identity in Iran. Zia-Ebrahimi highlights Akhundzadeh and Kermani's nationalist reading of Iranian history that has been d...

Zia-Ebrahimi highlights Akhundzadeh and Kermani's nationalist reading of Iranian history that has been drilled into the minds of Iranians since its adoption by the Pahlavi state in the early twentieth century.
Reza Zia-Ebrahimi is Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in History at King’s College London. He was born in Iran and grew up in Switzerland before being naturalized a Londoner. He completed his doctorate at the University of Oxford (St. Antony’s College) in what is still nostalgically called ‘Oriental Studies’. His research lies at the intersection of modern world history and ethnic studies, and he has widely published on Iranian articulations of nationalism. He currently works on a diachronic history of modern antisemitism and Islamophobia in Western Europe, with particular focus on the interlinkages between conspiracy theories and ideas of race.
