The 1967 World Sportscar Championship season were the 15th season of FIAWorld Sportscar Championship racing. It featured the International Championship for Sports-Prototypes and the International Championship for Sports Cars. The former was open to Group 6 Sports-Prototypes and the latter to Group 4 Sports Cars. The season ran from 4 February 1967 to 3 September 1967 and comprised 14 races in total.
This was the last championship season to include a hill climb event, due to safety concerns. Also, growing speed at Le Mans caused a controversial CSI decision to limit the engine capacity of Group 6 Sports-Prototypes to 3 litres, beginning in 1968.
Schedule
Although the season was composed of 14 races, not all races counted as rounds for both championships and each class did not compete in all events. Some events also included classes for GT cars and Touring Cars although these cars were not eligible to score championship points.
The 1966 World Sportscar Championship season was the 14th season of the FIA "World Sportscar Championship" motor racing. It featured the 1966 International Manufacturers' Championship and the 1966 International Sports Car Championship, which were contested between 5 February 1966 and September 11, 1966, over a total of thirteen races. The International Manufacturers' Championship was open to Group 6 Sports-Prototypes and was contested in two engine capacity divisions, P1 (Up to 2000cc) and P2 (Over 2000cc). The International Sports Car Championship was open to Group 4 Sports Cars and was contested in three engine capacity divisions, S1 (Up to 1300cc), S2 (1301 to 2000cc) and S3 (Over 2000cc).
Schedule
The 13 championship races each counted towards one or more of the five divisions.
Note: The Hockenheim 500km race did not count towards the Over 2000cc division of the International Manufacturers Championship.
The World Sportscar Championship was the world series run for sports car racing by the FIA from 1953 to 1992.
The championship evolved from a small collection of the most important sportscar, endurance and road racing events in Europe and North America with dozens of gentleman drivers at the grid, to a professional racing series where the world's largest automakers spent millions of dollars per year. The official name of the series changed throughout the years, however it has generally been known as the World Sportscar Championship from its inception in 1953. The World Sportscar Championship was, with the Formula One World Championship, one of the two major world championships in circuit motor racing.
A sports car (sportscar) is a small, usually two seater, two door automobile designed for spirited performance and nimble handling. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the first known use of the term was in 1928.
Sports cars may be spartan or luxurious, but high maneuverability and minimum weight are requisite. They may be equipped for racing, "especially an aerodynamically shaped one-passenger or two-passenger vehicle having a low center of gravity and steering and suspension designed for precise control at high speeds."
Early history
The definition of a sports car is not precise, but from the earliest first automobiles "people have found ways to make them go faster, round corners better, and look more beautiful" than the ordinary models inspiring an "emotional relationship" with a car that is fun to drive and use for the sake of driving. The basis for the sports car is traced to the early 20th century touring cars and roadsters. These raced in early rallys, such as the Herkomer Cup, Prinz Heinrich Fahrt, and Monte Carlo.
1966 Targa Florio - World Sportscar Championship R4 - GTR2 - 1966 Series #19
There is no disputing the Targa Florio is the world’s most challenging motor race. 567 turns per lap over the 72km Piccolo circuit. A narrow, bumpy, never-ending sequence of bends. Every lap of the circuit teaches something new, in every lap there is a discovery, one is never ‘done’ learning the Piccolo della Madonie. A race against the clock, but on a common circuit of competitors. Two drivers per car and a reckless spirit required.
It takes luck, courage and most importantly experience to win the Targa Florio. Coming for his first visit with a loaned car from Ford Team France, how will Richie fair on racing’s most challenging test? A result at the Targa Florio would cement any driver as one of the best.

1966 1000km Monza - World Sportscar Championship R3 - GTR2 - 1966 Series #17
Monza Italy is known as the Cathedral of speed, but for the second year running that speed would be restricted for the 1000km of Monza. Starting in 1965 and doubling down for 1966, Chicanes were installed at the entry of each of Monza's 30-degree banked corners, slowing the cars and creating an extra challenge to the previously high-speed circuit. By the end of the decade the sportscars abandoned the banking all-together.
Hollman and Moody have entered a sole GT40 mkII for Richie and Richie to challenge the Ferrari team and try to steal points on the Italian's home turf. Despite the win at the 24 hours of Daytona the added endurance races will allow the team to continue preparing for the main event in just a few short weeks.

Hot Work in Kuala Lumpur | 1985 World Sportscar | 1000km Race | Porsche | Jaguar
Big-time motor racing came to Malaysia in sweltering heat and humidty when 16 of the top sports cars battled out the Selangor 800 near Kuala Lumpur in the 1985 World Sportscar Championship. The race was a close competition between the factory Porsches (Derek Bell, Hans Stuck, Jochen Mass & Jacky Ickx) and Jaguars, (Jan Lammers, Gianfranco Brancatelli) with a few Fords thrown in for good measure.
There is a lot more to success than merely engaging the quickest drivers - behind-the-scenes pit-work is equally important and you are right in there working alongside the mechanics. Find out who was first across the line after over 200 punishing laps lasting over five-and-a-half hours.

My race at the Circuit de la Sarthe 1970 with the CGST mod. I'm driving the Sports 5000 Porsche 917K of Pedro Rodriguez for the John Wyer Automotive Engineering team. AI still set to 107% and Agression 25%, I turned off damage not for my benefit but for the AI because as you'll see they have problems getting round the bend on the mulsanne and half the field gets wiped out in the first few laps if damage is turned on. Race went well enough, almost too easily. Other times when I've raced using this mod the Porsche 917L's always proved hard to catch and overtake and normally over half race completed before I managed to get past with help of traffic.

The 1966 12 Hours of Sebring car race was an endurance race held at the 5.2 mile (8.3 km) Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Florida, United States on March 26, 1966. It was the sixteenth running of the endurance classic and the second round of the 1966 World Sportscar Championship season. The race proved to be a disastrous event; one of the darkest in American motorsports history.
Ford had just come off a 1-2-3 triumph at the first 24 Hours of Daytona in February 1966, with two of their 7-liter engined Ford GT40 Mk II's being raced by Carroll Shelby. Ford had effectively trounced Ferrari and Porsche, and was looking to do the same thing at the 12 Hours of Sebring car race in March 1966.
Ford's assault on Sebring (which had always been a good preparation run for Le Mans) was unprecedented. There were eleven Ford GT40 Mk I's, Ford GT40 Mk II's and a special Ford GT40 X-1 Roadster (which was a heavily modified Ford GT40 Mk I with an aluminum chassis, a Ford GT40 MkII nose, no roof and a 7-liter 427 engine, the same motor in a Ford GT40 Mk II) at 12 Hours of Sebring. These cars were entered by at least five different teams; all of whom had direct factory support. The two main works teams, however, were Shelby-American, a team with direct connections to Ford and seasoned with lots of road-racing experience; and the Holman & Moody team, which was known for its successes in NASCAR. There were also two works Ferrari's (originally there were supposed to be five) and two Chaparral 2D's. American Dan Gurney qualified his Shelby-entered Ford GT Mk II on pole position with a lap record of 2:54.6, followed by the new Ferrari 330P3 of Bob Bondurant and Mike Parkes, then a Ford GT MkI of Britons Graham Hill and Jackie Stewart, then another Ford GT Mk II of Americans Mark Donohue and Walt Hansgen, then the Ford GT40 X-1 of Briton Ken Miles and American Lloyd Ruby and then a Chaparral 2D of Americans Jim Hall and Hap Sharp.
Ford would dominate yet again. Gurney and Grant were leading- and on the last lap, while Gurney was driving, the car's engine failed. People at the pits were expecting Gurney to take victory, but Ken Miles crossed the finish line first in the Ford GT40 X-1. Gurney was pushing his Ford GT40 MkII on the course, and he made it to the finish line. But pushing a car during the race was illegal, and the car was disqualified. The Holman & Moody team-entered Ford GT40 Mk II was awarded 2nd place. 3rd place in the car race was an Essex Wire entered Ford GT40 Mk I of Skip Scott and Peter Revson. A works Porsche finished 4th place in the 12 Hours of Sebring.

Rules:
Fuel/Tire/Mech = Normal
AI = 47
Race Start Time = 3:30 PM
Race Time Scale = X15
Race Length Type = Time
Race Laps = N/A
Race Time = 1:36:00
