New Zealand (/njuːˈziːlənd/new-ZEE-lənd, Māori:Aotearoa[aɔˈtɛaɾɔa]) is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The country geographically comprises two main landmasses – that of the North Island, or Te Ika-a-Māui, and the South Island, or Te Waipounamu – and numerous smaller islands. New Zealand is situated some 1,500 kilometres (900mi) east of Australia across the Tasman Sea and roughly 1,000 kilometres (600mi) south of the Pacific island areas of New Caledonia, Fiji, and Tonga. Because of its remoteness, it was one of the last lands to be settled by humans. During its long isolation, New Zealand developed a distinctive biodiversity of animal, fungal and plant life. The country's varied topography and its sharp mountain peaks, such as the Southern Alps, owe much to the tectonic uplift of land and volcanic eruptions. New Zealand's capital city is Wellington, while its most populous city is Auckland.
Somewhere between 1250 and 1300 CE, Polynesians settled in the islands that were to become New Zealand, and developed a distinctive Māori culture. In 1642, Abel Tasman, a Dutch explorer, became the first European to sight New Zealand. In 1840, representatives of the British Crown and Māori Chiefs signed the Treaty of Waitangi, making New Zealand a British colony. Today, the majority of New Zealand's population of 4.5 million is of European descent; the indigenous Māori are the largest minority, followed by Asians and Pacific Islanders. Reflecting this, New Zealand's culture is mainly derived from Māori and early British settlers, with recent broadening arising from increased immigration. The official languages are English, Māori and New Zealand Sign Language, with English predominant.
The 2011 Rugby World Cup was the seventh Rugby World Cup, a quadrennial international rugby union competition inaugurated in 1987. The International Rugby Board (IRB) selected New Zealand as the host country in preference to Japan and South Africa at a meeting in Dublin on 17 November 2005. The tournament was won by New Zealand, who defeated France 8–7 in the final. The defending champions, South Africa, were eliminated by Australia 11–9 in the quarter-finals. The result marked the third time that the tournament was won by the country that hosted the event (following New Zealand in 1987 and South Africa in 1995).
It was the largest sporting event ever held in New Zealand, eclipsing the 1987 Rugby World Cup, 1990 Commonwealth Games, 1992 Cricket World Cup and the 2003 America's Cup. Overseas visitors to New Zealand for the event totalled 133,000, more than the 95,000 that the organisers expected. However, there was a drop in non-event visitors, meaning the net increase in visitors over the previous year was less than 80,000.
The Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) was established in 1983 as part of Victoria University of Wellington. Over the decades, the university environment has changed dramatically. When the School of Government was formed in 2002, the IPS became its ‘window’ for applied research, discussion and publication.
IPS achieves its objectives through a wide range of activities and outcomes ranging from seminars, symposia, conferences and roundtables on multi-dimensional topics to reports, periodicals and publications, Interaction, dialogue, thematic research and capacity-building programs are instrumental in its research endeavors. IPS formulates viable plans and presents key initiatives and policy measures to policy makers, analysts, political leaders, legislators, researchers, academia, civil society organization, media and other stakeholders. IPS believes in good governance, transparency (behavior), professionalism, and program effectiveness. IPS strictly upholds its independence, credibility and Integrity. It operates as a self-financed think-tank through endowments, sponsorships, voluntary services and private donations. Aside from its periodicals, publications and membership fees it generates revenues by providing consultancy services.
Institute of Policy Studies of Sri Lanka (IPS) is the apex economic policy research institute in Sri Lanka. It is an autonomous institution and working with a number of private and public sector institutions and advising them on economic policy issues.

IPS is established in 1988 and then formalized in 1990. It was supported in the initial stage by the governments of Netherlands and Sri Lanka. It has started its own fund and become independent later on.
Goals

Documentary series Revolution mapped the social and economic changes in New Zealand society in the 1980s and early 1990s. This first episode focuses on NZ's radical transformation from a heavily regulated welfare state to a petri dish for free market ideology. It includes interviews with key political and business figures of the day, who reveal how the dire economic situation by the end of Robert Muldoon's reign made it relatively easy for Roger Douglas to implement extreme reform. Revolution won Best Factual Series at the 1997 Film and TV Awards.

It is now possible to set up a Decentralized Autonomous Organisation (DAO) within 90 seconds and raise funds on the metaverse by selling digital art through non-fungible tokens (NFTs). With blockchain technology, communities can potentially raise their own funds, engage in participatory budgeting, and support ideas and projects that get the most votes, all facilitated through a digital platform that they can control collectively. Will Web3 technology revolutionise community self-management and non-profit organisational structures though mass participation, or is it merely a fad and no-tech or lower-tech platforms can do just as well?

Dr Bertram set the scene by providing a brief macro-economic overview, with some comparisons to the Great depression and an analysis of the pattern of recessions throughout the 20th and early 21st centuries. The data suggest that it is still too early to call whether we are in recovery from the present global recession, and some indicators remain weak. Consumption and world trade are still down significantly, and the pattern of the present recession is deeper than anything experienced since the depression, with no turning point towards improvement in fundamentals as yet. A second layer of effect is the radical restructuring of the world economy, with enormous surpluses in some countries most notably China, and huge deficits in a number of the Western economies, most notably the USA. This imbalance is not sustainable, particularly when the deficits have been incurred to fuel consumption rather than investment. The third layer of effect is at the level of the individual, where the labour market remains key to peoples prospects particularly for those who have limited skills or training. The appetite for borrowing and spending which we observed during the decade or so preceding the present recession has since diminished markedly, as people chose to reduce debt and prepare themselves for more uncertain times. An unfortunate offshoot from this change is that many people are likely to become less caring for and generous towards one another. In summary, the world outlook remains fragile and uncertain, and this is like to mean continuing if not worsening circumstances for the most vulnerable in our society for some time yet. http://dosomething.org.nz
