A contact lens, or simply contact, is a thin lens placed directly on the surface of the eye. Contact lenses are considered medical devices and can be worn to correct vision, or for cosmetic or therapeutic reasons. In 2004, it was estimated that 125 million people (2%) use contact lenses worldwide, including 28 to 38 million in the United States. In 2010, worldwide contact lens market was estimated at $6.1 billion, while the U.S. soft lens market was estimated at $2.1 billion. Multiple scientists estimated that the global market would reach $11.7 billion by 2015.As of 2010, the average age of contact lens wearers globally was 31 years old, and two thirds of wearers were female.
People choose to wear contact lenses for many reasons. Aesthetics and cosmetics are often motivating factors for people who would like to avoid wearing glasses or would like to change the appearance of their eyes. Other people wear contacts for functional or optical reasons. When compared with spectacles, contact lenses typically provide better peripheral vision, and do not collect moisture such as rain, snow, condensation, or perspiration(extreme weather); this makes them ideal for sports and other outdoor activities. Contact lens wearers can also wear sunglasses, goggles, or other eyewear of their choice without having to fit them with prescription lenses or worry about compatibility with glasses. Additionally, there are conditions such as keratoconus and aniseikonia that are typically corrected better by contacts than by glasses.
Here's a new video showing how to put in black sclera contact lenses! :) These lenses come from Eyesbright, however, they are not for sale on their website. Eyesbright only sells scleras to trained professionals, such as makeup artists, fx artists, and performers. Need a visual tutorial on how to insert and remove a black sclera lens? This video will show you exactly how to wear black sclera contact lenses and how to take them out after. There are some gorgeous cosplays of elegant dark elves and creepy possessed characters out there. And the most convincing effect is always the deep, soulless pupilless black eyes that suck you into despair. Whether you’re a cosplayer, a video director, or just a creative at heart, you may feel the call to express your ideas with these fascinating black sclera contacts.
Sclera lenses are intimidating to wear for the first time even if you are familiar with contacts in general. The name itself comes from the fact that the contacts are designed to cover your sclera, the white part of your eyes. While most colored contacts are just big enough to cover your iris, sclera lenses can be 22mm long. However, once you know the basics and with a bit of encouragement from our guide, it is a breeze. You will get excited to look for another reason to wear them and get all eyes on you again.
______________________________________
*How to insert a black sclera lens?
First and foremost, clean the lenses before wearing them. While the lenses come suspended in liquid, this substance is not meant for direct contact with your eyes. The purpose of this special solution is to protect your contact lens for long-term storage. In this video, the lenses are rinsed and soaked using a special lens case designed for sclera lenses. You can find the lens case here: https://www.uniqso.com/collections/contact-lens-cleaner/products/lens-case-sclera
After at least six hours of soaking, your black sclera lens is now ready for insertion. Clean and sanitize your hands before handling any contact lens to minimize the risk of contaminating your lens. Next, hold your sclera lens on the tips of your fingers. While smaller lenses can be balanced on one finger, you may need a few fingers for our 22m lenses.
1. Gently pull the skin above your eyes so it stretches upwards.
2. With the fingers of your other hand, carefully slide the top part of your lens underneath the eyelid. 3. Once the top is nicely tucked in, hold the lens in place while you move to the bottom part.
4. To make it easier, you can only use one finger to keep the skin above your eyes stretched.
5. This leaves the other fingers of the same hand free to hold the lens in place.
6. Using your other hand, pull the skin beneath your eyes downwards far enough for the lens to slide in.
7. Adjust the position of the lens by slowly sliding it around or by pulling parts of the skin where the lens is still not tucked.
8. Once you’re happy, gently release the skin and slide your eyelids over the lens a few times. Now you and your black sclera lens are ready for the camera!
______________________________________
*How to remove a black sclera lens? Removing is even easier!
1. Simply place your index finger and your thumb on the surface of the lens.
2. Pinch the lens gently without pressing on your eyes and it should slide out with ease.
3. You can now rinse and clean it before storing your black sclera lens for your next use.

Thanks to @MandyKodama for the black sclera contacts review.
