An inclined plane, also known as a ramp, is a flat supporting surface tilted at an angle, with one end higher than the other, used as an aid for raising or lowering a load. The inclined plane is one of the six classical simple machines defined by Renaissance scientists. Inclined planes are widely used to move heavy loads over vertical obstacles; examples vary from a ramp used to load goods into a truck, to a person walking up a pedestrian ramp, to an automobile or railroad train climbing a grade.
Moving an object up an inclined plane requires less force than lifting it straight up, at a cost of an increase in the distance moved. The mechanical advantage of an inclined plane, the factor by which the force is reduced, is equal to the ratio of the length of the sloped surface to the height it spans. Due to conservation of energy, the same amount of mechanical energy (work) is required to lift a given object by a given vertical distance, disregarding losses from friction, but the inclined plane allows the same work to be done with a smaller force exerted over a greater distance.
A cable railway (also known as an incline or inclined plane) is a steeply graded railway that uses a cable or rope wound about a cable winch system similar to a ski lift mechanism powered by a stationary engine to haul trains on adversely steep grades. Many such were funicular railroads, where one descending load in part counterbalanced an ascending consist, much like a cable car.
Introduction
Cable railways are typically built where the gradient of the route is so steep that a conventional adhesion train could not climb the track. Most commonly the cable is operated by a stationary engine, although other methods such as gravity or water-balance are also used.
Many cable railways connect to conventional adhesion lines at their top and bottom, allowing trains to be lifted from a lower line to a higher one. A specific type of cable railway is the funicular, which is a cable railway with the cars permanently fixed to the cable. Usually funiculars are self-contained and not connected to other railway networks.
This physics video tutorial provides a basic introduction into inclined planes. It covers the most common equations and formulas that you need to solve inclined plane physics problems. It provides the formulas needed to calculate the normal force, the component force of gravity parallel to the incline, kinetic friction, net force, and the acceleration of the object. It provides the free body diagrams that go with these formulas to solve common problems with newton's laws of motions.

What is an Inclined Plane? - Simple Machines | Science for Kids | Educational Videos by Mocomi
https://mocomi.com/ presents: What is an inclined plane?
An inclined plane is a ramp that assists moving heavy objects up and down heights. It is a plane surface set at an angle, other than a right angle, against a horizontal surface.
If Dhakkan in the above video wants to lift and place this barrel on a ledge, it is a bit difficult. With the help of an inclined plane, Dhakkan can now roll the same up a sloping surface, with much lesser effort.
This is because, the force required to raise an object at a distance is greatly reduced by increasing the distance over which the force must be applied.
So the mechanical advantage is the more the distance to be covered, the lesser the force needed to move the load to the raised height.

Physics Ninja look at 3 inclined plane problems. 1) Determine the speed at the bottom of the ramp and the time is takes to get to the bottom. 2) Given an initial speed up the ramp find the max distance up the ramp (includes kinetic friction) 3) Find the tension in the rope if the block is in equilibrium.
https://mocomi.com/ presents: What is an inclined plane?
Learn more about the inclined plane with the help of this animated learning module and as an exercise look for a few household items on which we use this to move them.

This video is the first of a few more run-throughs to come. I saw there was a singular other video on the internet covering one of these exams, so after completing the 2024 EA, I decided I would do this.

The Moon’s orbit is inclined a little over five degrees relative to the ecliptic plane ... All this means that once every 18.6 years, the Moon ‘swings wide’ in the sky, as the tilt of its orbit is applied to the Earth’s versus the ecliptic plane.

Over the course of two intense days, Jaiswal faced nearly 200 overs of throw-downs, with a concrete slab placed on an inclined plane at around a 45-degree angle ... Hence concrete slab kept at an inclined plane creates that skiddy uncomfortable bounce.
In particular, modeling of the SDSSJ110429-A,B galaxy pair has shown that the observed angle between the components of the pair can be explained if the string is strongly inclined to the line of sight and, possibly, bent in the image plane.".
