Team Lioness: Women rangers protecting Africa's wildlife | IFAW
The inspirational story of eight brave women who shattered their glass ceiling to protect wildlife. Team Lioness was created by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) as an all-women wildlife ranger unit in Kenya. When COVID-19 sidelined many state-run ranger units, Team Lioness was one of the only active groups. They were left as the first line of defense to stop poachers and the killing of elephants, lions, giraffes, cheetahs and other wildlife on their traditional Massai land bordering Amboseli National Park. They are the first women in their families to secure employment and pioneers of women's empowerment, creating new opportunities and possibilities for the women in their tribe.

This holiday season, help animals like Mbila
Mbila was only a few months old when she was rescued as orphans after a human-wildlife conflict in 2020 by our partners, Game Rangers International. She was recently translocated to Kafue National Park where she has joined the release herd preparing to return to the wild!
With elephant populations facing greater threats than ever before, every individual makes an impact for the entire species. That’s why IFAW believes that elephants deserve #RoomToRoam safely, and we’re doing all we can to make that possible. But we can’t do it alone. Your support can help aid conservation efforts to ensure other elephants like Mbila return #BackToTheWild where they belong.

Experiencing ifaw's work on the ground in Amboseli for the first time
In June 2022, IFAW’s Board of Directors met in Amboseli National Park, Kenya. Board Members from around the world had an opportunity to see IFAW’s work on the ground for the first time.
During their visit, they learned the importance of Amboseli as a key landscape to IFAW’s Room to Roam initiative, which aims to create corridors of safe habitat for wildlife across 12 countries in East and Southern Africa.

Rescued Tigers Swim For the First Time!
Rescued tigers Carli and Lily now have a new home at Safe Haven Rescue Zoo, a GFAS-verified wildlife sanctuary located in a remote part of Nevada. Nestled in a high desert valley, guarded on all sides by towering mountain peaks, Safe Haven embodies an oasis.
While with ample peace and quiet, this sanctuary is subjected to extreme sun exposure and intense heat during a large portion of the year. Many sanctuaries, including Safe Haven, provide in-ground pools. These girls were among the 19 exotic animals IFAW helped confiscate from a failed facility in New York.

The Light of The Heart
Our hearts are enlightened to these people
who guarded our land; we are living, waiting for those
who have the influence to preserve our land.
Today we are engaging in speeches about these liberate older men
who were neither sold nor bought. And evenly, these strong untied
women were neither sold nor bought.
Those who sacrificed are buried and no more for their land.
Now we are the new generation, and encourage each other,
hand in hand, staying beside each other.

International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW)
We collaborate with IFAW to reimagine their brand in order to better communicate their unique approach to the widest possible audience. We wanted to show how IFAW’s experts work in the field, challenging the standard codes of beauty shots of animals in the wild and guilt-inducing pleas for help.
The website is an integral part of IFAW’s rebrand. Immersive “bite-sized” pieces of information draw readers in while there is always the option to dive much deeper with journalistic coverage of projects. Paired with calls to action, the content allows visitors to become active participants in a mission together with IFAW.

IFAW International Fund for Animal Welfare in Ukraine
Since the start of the Ukrainian war, IFAW has been working in Ukraine and Poland to help as many animals as possible. From March to May 2022, the team supported refugees and their animals at the ‘blue tent,’ providing them with comfort, food and supplies to continue their journey. While cats and dogs were the most common pets that refugees brought into the tent, we also saw white rats, bunnies and hamsters.
