History
Founded in the 1980s as a mail order company selling products via national press adverts and consumer exhibitions The company was then called Wrightway Marketing and was run by Paul Wright and his business partner Val Kaye. The company later produced its own catalogues, inserted into the Daily Mail, and sold at the Ideal Home exhibition.
In 1999, land was bought in Peterborough with a view to building premises to serve as live TV studios, offices, warehousing, and a call centre. Ideal World was launched on 17 April 2000 on digital satellite broadcasting 24 hours a day. A pre-launch documentary was recorded by a documentary team from Channel 4, charting the channel's launch onto Sky and featuring the main management of the time and the Presentation team of Paul Lavers, Debbie Flint and Steve Whatley, and was called "Telly Sales".
Paul van Kempen (16 May 1893 – 8 December 1955) was a Dutchconductor.
Personal life
Van Kempen was born in Zoeterwoude, Netherlands. He studied at the Amsterdam conservatory from 1910 to 1913, including composition and conducting with Julius Roentgen and Bernard Zweers, as well as violin with Louis Zimmerman. From 1913, he was a second violinist with the Concertgebouw Orchestra. One year later, he was in the first violin section. After 1916, he began to make his career more in Germany, and served as concertmaster in orchestras in Posen, Bad Nauheim und Dortmund. In 1932, Van Kempen became a German citizen. He died in Amsterdam at age 62.
Career
Van Kempen was music director in Oberhausen for 2 years. From 1934 to 1942, he was principal conductor of the Dresden Philharmonic. In 1942, he succeeded Herbert von Karajan as Kapellmeister in Aachen, serving through 1944. Several years after World War II, in 1953, Van Kempen became general music director of the city of Bremen.
In 1949, Van Kempen returned to the Netherlands as principal conductor of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, based in Hilversum. Moreover, his conducting activities during World War II made him a controversial figure in the Netherlands, such as conducting concerts for the Wehrmacht. On one occasion, in 1951, Van Kempen was engaged as a substitute conductor at the Concertgebouw Orchestra in place of the ill Eduard van Beinum. During the first night, audience members protested strongly, but the concert took place. On the second night, the audience disruptions were so severe that 62 musicians left the stage and refused to continue.
Paul van Kempen Complete Philips Recordings on Eloquence Classics
THE FIRST BOX SET COMPRISING THE COMPLETE PHILIPS RECORDINGS OF THE POWERFULLY INDIVIDUAL DUTCH CONDUCTOR PAUL VAN KEMPEN.
ORIGINAL JACKETS | NEW REMASTERING | LIMITED EDITION
Alongside Willem Mengelberg and Bernard Haitink, Paul van Kempen is one of three Dutch conductors who were regular and esteemed leaders of both the Concertgebouworkest and the Berliner Philharmoniker, live and on record.
Van Kempen was an unabashed Romantic in style, in the mould of Mengelberg but with his own approach, and a sensitivity that made him a perfect foil to Wilhelm Kempff and Wolfgang Schneiderhan on Deutsche Grammophon recordings of Beethoven concertos for which he is best remembered.

Before you point the finger and hope the whole thing disappears Remember empty words would fall fall upon the deafest ears He won't give up without a fight foul play without a doubt No silver lining to be seen in this thundercloud and that's not allowed In the ideal world we'd be free to choose But in my real world you can bet we're gonna loose In the ideal world we can start again In the ideal world put an end to suffering Your money fills their pockets and fear fills their tiny minds At last the world is talking now this ain't no way to treat mankind A sudden blackout stops the show but doesn't stop the way I am Because all of my life I've been afraid you're not the first to say I am I do all I can for an ideal world where we're free to chose In my real world you can bet we're gonna lose In the ideal world we can start again But my real world hangs the colour of your skin We could be free together if they would only change In life fools never change With a speck of blue hope in the sky a song of hope a noble thought But how long must people die before the guilty ones are caught Then will you spare a thought For an ideal world we'd be free to chose The ideal world we're no longer born to lose In the ideal world we can start again In my real world put an end to suffering In my real world it's free to chose In my real world put an end to suffering
