Jill Sobule is an American singer-songwriter best known for the 1995 single "I Kissed a Girl", and "Supermodel" from the soundtrack of the 1995 film Clueless. Her folk-inflected compositions alternate between ironic, story-driven character studies and emotive ballads, a duality reminiscent of such 1970s American songwriters as Warren Zevon, Harry Nilsson, Loudon Wainwright III, Harry Chapin, and Randy Newman. Autobiographical elements, including Sobule's Jewish heritage and her adolescent battles with anorexia and depression, frequently occur in Sobule's writing. An appreciable percentage of her work is also dedicated to detailed accounts of both her own fictional female creations and such troubled but celebrated women as Joey Heatherton and Mary Kay Letourneau, whose stories are usually used to make ironic comments about fame and celebrity.
In 2009, she released an album funded entirely by fan donations, one of the early pioneers of crowdfunding.
Jill Sobule is the second album by the Americansinger-songwriterJill Sobule, released in April 7, 1995. The disc contained the singles "Good Person Inside", "Supermodel" and "I Kissed a Girl".
Track listing
All songs written and composed by Jill Sobule & Robin Eaton, except as noted.
The first release of the album does not contain "Supermodel". After "Supermodel" appeared on the Clueless film soundtrack and was released as a single, the album was reissued with the song.
Katy Perry song
The singer Katy Perry used the title "I Kissed a Girl" for her own song, "I Kissed a Girl", which appeared on her 2008 album One of the Boys. The song received a mixed reception, and was unfavourably compared to Sobule's original by some commentators: Hiponline.com wrote that the song is "not nearly as interesting or exciting as you’d expect. It’s not even half as good as Jill Sobule’s song 'I Kissed a Girl'".Glitterati Gossip wrote that Sobule's song "was ten times better, because there was actual emotional content to her lyrics". Sobule shared her feelings about Perry's song and use of the title in a July 2009 interview with The Rumpus:
In 2008, new pop-singer Katy Perry issued a song of her own called "I Kissed a Girl" for her debut album One of the Boys. The song received mixed reviews, with much of the negative reception originating to comparative inferiority with the Jill Sobule song. Hiponline.com wrote that the song is "not nearly as interesting or exciting as you’d expect.
As a musician I have always refrained from criticizing another artist. I was, "Well, good for her." It did bug me a little bit, however, when she said she came up with the idea for the title in a dream. In truth, she wrote it with a team of professional writers and was signed by the very same guy that signed me in 1995. I have not mentioned that in interviews as I don't want to sound bitter or petty...
"I Kissed a Girl" is a song recorded by American singer Katy Perry for her second studio album, One of the Boys (2008). It was released on April 28, 2008, by Capitol Records as the lead single from the record. Perry co-wrote the song with its producers Dr. Luke and Benny Blanco, with additional songwriting provided by Max Martin and Cathy Dennis. "I Kissed a Girl" is a bubblegum pop song with elements of new wave, with lyrics that are described by Perry as being "about the magical beauty of a woman".
Upon its release, "I Kissed a Girl" received generally mixed reviews from music critics, who praised its sound and structure but highly criticized its lyrical content. The song drew controversy for its irreverent lyrics and was notably criticized by numerous critics and singers. The song experienced commercial success domestically as well as internationally. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for seven consecutive weeks, becoming the 1,000th number-one song of the rock era. The single has sold over 4,600,000 digital copies in the US alone. "I Kissed a Girl" is one of eight songs by Perry to sell over 4 million digital copies in the US, the others being "Hot n Cold", "California Gurls", "Firework", "E.T.", "Teenage Dream", "Roar" and "Dark Horse". It has reached the summit of the charts in nearly twenty countries, including Australia, Canada, Lebanon, Ireland, and the United Kingdom, while peaking within the top five in other European countries such as Belgium, Finland, and France. The song is one of the best-selling singles worldwide.
"I Kissed a Girl" is the seventh episode of the third season of the American musical television series Glee, and the fifty-first overall. Written by Matthew Hodgson and directed by Tate Donovan, the episode aired on Fox in the United States on November 29, 2011, and featured the election for a new senior class president at McKinley High. It also covered the special congressional election between Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) and Burt Hummel (Mike O'Malley), plus repercussions from the outing of Santana (Naya Rivera) during the congressional campaign.
The episode as a whole received mixed to negative reviews from critics, though several praised Santana's scene with her grandmother. The music was viewed more favorably by reviewers, and earned mixed to positive reactions. Six songs are covered in the episode, including Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl". All six were released as downloadable singles, and five of them charted on the Billboard Hot 100.
Upon its initial airing, this episode was viewed by 7.9 million American viewers and garnered a 3.2/8 Nielsen rating/share in the 18–49 demographic. The total viewership and ratings were up from the previous episode, "Mash Off", which had aired two weeks before.

Jill Sobule - The Rapture
I've always been fascinated by the end-time believers. I envy their strong faith and certainty as well as their flexibility when the believed date of doom passes without even a small locust infestation.
I wrote "The Rapture" after buying one of those Left-Behind books at an airport bookstore -- I had to do my pre-Millenium Dispensationalist pop-lit research. I didn't finish reading it, as I had already guessed the ending. Also, I'd had a couple of internet conversations with an ex-gay preacher. He liked me but said I was likely bound for hell no matter how nice I was. I gave the song a kind of 1960s happy "Up with People" horn arrangement - seemed to fit.

America Back (Official Music Video) - Jill Sobule
Just one day after Drumpf's historic trip to Mexico, I present to you the "exclusive world premier" of the video to my song "America Back". The video, featuring tuba and mariachi, as well as stoner and copulating marionettes, retells the history of immigration and anti-immigration sentiment in the US of A.
The song is the first single from the upcoming all-star album, "Monster Protest Jamz...Volume 1". It is just one of the fab offerings from "My Song Is My Weapon".

Some asked for the lyrics:
Remember the garden of Eden?
Before eve hung out with that snake?
You could walk down the streets not worry bout thieves
All the kids could go trick or treating.
Then those foreigners started coming in
Like the Germans in 1790
Then the Irish arrived, the potato blight
The neighborhood started changing
Life was better, we lived right,
Life had a paler shade of white, when they sing
“We want our America Back”
Before there was Ellis island
And that statue we got from the French
That whore’s still alerting, with strangers she’s flirting
Inviting them into our beds
The guineas, the coolies, the wetbacks, the reds
The Jews, now those terrorists
And who let in the woman who looks after my kid
And the one who is cleaning my mess?
Before the gays had their agenda, before the slaves were free
Before that man from Kenya took the presidency
Life was so righteous, life was so clean.
Send em all back including me
When they say, “we want our America back”,
Our America back, our America back.”
When they say, ” we want our America back”
Well, what the…fuck do they mean?
