Arzell Hill (September 30, 1935 – April 27, 1984), known as Z. Z. Hill (pronounced "Zee Zee...") was an Americanbluessinger best known for his recordings in the 1970s and early 1980s, including his 1982 album for Malaco Records, Down Home, which stayed on the Billboard soul albumchart for nearly two years. The track "Down Home Blues" has been called the best-known blues song of the 1980s. According to the Texas State Historical Association, Hill "devised a combination of blues and contemporary soul styling and helped to restore the blues to modern black consciousness."
Life
Born in Naples, Texas, Hill began his singing career in the late 1950s as part of a gospel group called The Spiritual Five, touring Texas. He was influenced by Sam Cooke, B. B. King, and Bobby "Blue" Bland, and began performing his own songs and others in clubs in and around Dallas, including spells fronting bands led by Bo Thomas and Frank Shelton. He took his stage name in emulation of B. B. King.
Encouraged by Otis Redding who had seen him perform, he joined his older brother, budding record producer Matt Hill, in Los Angeles in 1963, and released his first single, "You Were Wrong", on the family's own M.H. label. It spent one week at no.100 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1964, and Hill was quickly signed by Kent Records. Most of his records for Kent were written or co-written by Hill, and arranged by leading saxophonistMaxwell Davis. None charted, but in retrospect many, such as "I Need Someone (To Love Me)", are now viewed with high regard by soul fans.
Ultra Violet and I Found Love are two titles given to the seventh studio album released by Britishgirl groupBananarama in 1995. Originally released in Japan only, with the title I Found Love, the album was renamed and repackaged as Ultra Violet in other countries, including the U.S., Australia, Canada, and continental Europe, where it was marketed either at the same time or in the following years. Neither Ultra Violet nor I Found Love was ever released in the UK, where the band had not had any hits since their 1993 cover of "More, More, More" (and would not again until 2005 with the single "Move in My Direction").
The album was released on various labels, including ZYX Records and DigIt International, depending upon the different countries because Bananarama had no major record deal after leaving London Records, which had produced all of their works before 1993. Musically, the 1995 album continued Bananarama's Europop sound, and it was a success commercially. Its biggest success came from the album's first single, "Every Shade of Blue", which sold well enough in Canada to chart in the Top 40. It also peaked at #124 in Australia. Two more singles were taken from the two editions: the title track, "I Found Love", and "Take Me to Your Heart", which was heavily remixed for the single version, turning it from a rhythm guitar-based, almost acoustic tune into a Europop number, much like the other album tracks. "Take Me To Your Heart" peaked at #180 in Australia.
In 2014, Owl City released an EP called Ultraviolet and released "Beautiful Times" as the lead single. Following the release, Young stated his intent to release a steady "series of EPs" in 2014 rather than one larger recording. On October 7, 2014, Young released two new songs simultaneously, "You're Not Alone" featuring Britt Nicole and "Tokyo" featuring Sekai no Owari. The former would eventually become part of the international edition of the album while the latter would become the fourth track of the Japanese edition. The song "Up All Night" from the extended play, Ultraviolet was included on the Japanese edition of the album as well.
On May 12, 2015, the album name was revealed along with its artwork, track listing and release date was announced despite his intentions to release a series of EPs instead of a full-length album.
Young collaborated with several artists to provide additional vocals for the other songs on the album: U.K. artist Sarah Russell for the track called "Thunderstruck", Jake Owen for the country pop song called "Back Home", Avicii's "Wake Me Up!" vocalist Aloe Blacc for the graduation-themed song "Verge", and Hanson for the song "Unbelievable".
"'I Found Love" is a song recorded by English girl groupBananarama. The instrumental track was composed by Japanese dance producer Tetsuya Komuro and group members Sara Dallin and Keren Woodward wrote lyrics and recorded their vocals over it. The result was not a track which Bananarama liked, so they asked their producer Gary Miller to remix it. Miller's mix was issued as the A-side of the "I Found Love" single, as the "ROZI Mix".
"I Found Love" was issued as a double-A-side in Japan with "Every Shade of Blue". When the I Found Love album was released in the United States, it was re-titled Ultra Violet and "I Found Love" appeared as a bonus track only.
