With increasing awareness, we have quickly shifted from BS4 norms to BS6 norms (skipping BS5) in 2020 encouraging hybrid electric vehicles to step into the market. The most common type of a hybrid vehicle is an IC engine variant. It combines a battery, electric motor and a generator which results in lesser emission and fuel consumption.

Any vehicle which can be powered by two or more sources is called a Hybrid vehicle. Most of the Hybrid cars today, use Electric - Internal Combustion Engine type hybrid technology. These cars consist of a small Internal Combustion Engine and an electric motor. The IC engine may be Diesel or Petrol powered while the motor is battery powered. This technology combines the benefits of the engines and the electric motors together to produce better mileage and power. These vehicles may either be propelled by the IC engine or the electric motor or both depending upon the requirements.

2. Reduced power and fuel wastage at idle stops
3. Less noise and vibrations
4. Occupies less space
5. Has lesser mass
The electric motor at other hands offers advantages such as
1. Zero emissions
2. Negligible noise and vibrations
3. Good torque at all the operating speeds
4. No complex Transmission system is required for power transmission
A Hybrid car combines both these systems to complement each other. It compensates the low range of electric battery with high range IC Engines. At other hands, the electric system helps in reducing the emissions and provides better torque at all operating speeds. A Hybrid system can easily incorporate Regenerative braking and help in preventing power wastage during the braking of the vehicle. This system utilizes the energy of the vehicle during braking and produces electric energy to charge the batteries.
1. Series Hybrid Cars
Series Hybrid cars consist of an engine connected in series with a generator. The power generated by the engine is used by the generator to produce electricity. This electricity is either used to run the motor or to charge a battery. The power stored in the battery can be used to propel the vehicle when the engine is not running. These vehicles are quite similar to the electric vehicles since the final drive is provided by the electric motor only. They do not require complex transmission system since the motor speed can be varied easily by varying the current supply to it. This system allows the engine to run at its most efficient speed, irrespective of the vehicles speed. The engine may even run while the vehicle is standing on the signal. The Power generated during these idle conditions is stored in batteries for further uses. Although the series Hybrid vehicles are quite effective, they need a large number of energy conversions. Power is lost during each such conversion, decreasing the overall efficiency of this system. One more disadvantage of this system is the huge number of components required for it. This increases the overall mass of the vehicle.
2. Parallel Hybrid Cars
Parallel Hybrids have an IC engine and an electric motor connected in parallel to the transmission. These cars may either be powered by the engine or the electric motor or both depending upon the requirement. This power transfer is controlled by a microcontroller. The microcontroller or power controller decides whether the motor and engine would operate independently or in combination with each other. The motor is powered by a battery pack while the engine is powered by the fuel stored in the fuel tank. The motor is also used as a starting mechanism for the engine. Their motor shaft is directly connected to the transmission without any clutch. Thus shaft keeps on rotating when the vehicle is powered by the engine alone. This causes the motor to behave as an electricity generator. The electricity thus generated is used in charging the batteries.
The electric drive is used at low speeds and city rides, as the motor provides better torque even at lower speeds. The engine can be used to power the vehicle at cruising speeds since engines are more efficient at those speeds. At cruising speeds, the excess power generated by the engine is used to charge the batteries. For high power operation both the drives can be used together. This improves the performance and mileage of the car.

A Hybrid car combines both these systems to complement each other. It compensates the low range of electric battery with high range IC Engines. At other hands, the electric system helps in reducing the emissions and provides better torque at all operating speeds. A Hybrid system can easily incorporate Regenerative braking and help in preventing power wastage during the braking of the vehicle. This system utilizes the energy of the vehicle during braking and produces electric energy to charge the batteries.
1. Series Hybrid Cars
Series Hybrid cars consist of an engine connected in series with a generator. The power generated by the engine is used by the generator to produce electricity. This electricity is either used to run the motor or to charge a battery. The power stored in the battery can be used to propel the vehicle when the engine is not running. These vehicles are quite similar to the electric vehicles since the final drive is provided by the electric motor only. They do not require complex transmission system since the motor speed can be varied easily by varying the current supply to it. This system allows the engine to run at its most efficient speed, irrespective of the vehicles speed. The engine may even run while the vehicle is standing on the signal. The Power generated during these idle conditions is stored in batteries for further uses. Although the series Hybrid vehicles are quite effective, they need a large number of energy conversions. Power is lost during each such conversion, decreasing the overall efficiency of this system. One more disadvantage of this system is the huge number of components required for it. This increases the overall mass of the vehicle.
2. Parallel Hybrid Cars
Parallel Hybrids have an IC engine and an electric motor connected in parallel to the transmission. These cars may either be powered by the engine or the electric motor or both depending upon the requirement. This power transfer is controlled by a microcontroller. The microcontroller or power controller decides whether the motor and engine would operate independently or in combination with each other. The motor is powered by a battery pack while the engine is powered by the fuel stored in the fuel tank. The motor is also used as a starting mechanism for the engine. Their motor shaft is directly connected to the transmission without any clutch. Thus shaft keeps on rotating when the vehicle is powered by the engine alone. This causes the motor to behave as an electricity generator. The electricity thus generated is used in charging the batteries.
The electric drive is used at low speeds and city rides, as the motor provides better torque even at lower speeds. The engine can be used to power the vehicle at cruising speeds since engines are more efficient at those speeds. At cruising speeds, the excess power generated by the engine is used to charge the batteries. For high power operation both the drives can be used together. This improves the performance and mileage of the car.

The ability to build batteries at scale for electric cars is difficult. Only the companies which have established battery supply chains will be able to build EVs at scale, and survive into the future.
An example: If your company can make or secure some number of batteries for EVs. Say that is enough for 350km cars.
You can use that to make 1 full EV car,
if you make plug in hybrids you can use the same number of batteries to make seven 50km range plug in hybrid cars.
You can also also use it to make fifteen 25km range plug in hybrids.
You can use the same amount of batteries to make thirty to fifty hybrid cars.

The basic principle with hybrid vehicles is that the different motors work better at different speeds; the electric motor is more efficient at producing torque, or turning power, and the combustion engine is better for maintaining high speed (better than a typical electric motor). Switching from one to the other at the proper time while speeding up yields a win-win in terms of energy efficiency, as such that translates into greater fuel efficiency.

Since the 2010s, the term hypercar has come into use for the highest performing supercars. Supercars commonly serve as the flagship model within a vehicle manufacturer's line-up of sports cars and typically feature various performance-related technology derived from motorsports. Some examples include the Ferrari 458 Italia, Lamborghini Aventador, and McLaren 720S.
In the United States, muscle cars were often referred to as "supercars" during the 1960s.

Europe
The Lamborghini Miura, produced from 1966–1973, is often said to be the first supercar.[1][2][3][4] By the 1970s and 1980s the term was in regular use, if not precisely defined.[5][6] One interpretation up until the 1990s was to use it for mid-engine two-seat cars with at least eight cylinders (but typically a V12 engine), a power output of at least 400 bhp (298 kW) and a top speed of at least 180 mph (290 km/h).[7] Other interpretations state that "it must be very fast, with sporting handling to match", "it should be sleek and eye-catching" and its price should be "one in a rarefied atmosphere of its own"[8] or regard exclusivity (i.e. limited production volumes) as an important characteristic (such as those made by Ferrari or Lamborghini).[4]
It is also claimed that the definition of a supercar has always been subjective and a matter of blind prejudice.[7]

During the 1960s, cars that are now considered to be muscle cars were then referred to as supercars.[9][10]: 8 The term was sometimes spelled with a capital S.[11] In 1966 the sixties supercar became an official industry trend.[9]: 8 For example, the May 1965 issue of the American magazine Car Life includes multiple references to supercars and "the supercar club"[12] and a 1968 issue of Car & Driver magazine refers to "the Supercar street racer gang" market segment.[13] In the model name of the AMC S/C Rambler, the "S/C" is an abbreviation for "SuperCar".[14]
Since the decline of the muscle car in the 1970s, the word supercar came to mean a car that has high performance[9]: 5 interpretations of the term are for limited-production models produced by small manufacturers for enthusiasts, and, less so, standard-looking cars modified for increased performance.[15]
Hypercar
A more recent term for high-performance sportscars is "hypercar", which is sometimes used to describe the highest performing supercars.[16] As per supercars, there is no set definition for what constitutes a hypercar. An attempt to define these is "a limited-production, top-of-the-line supercar with a price of around or more than US$1 million."[17]
Some people consider the 1993 McLaren F1 to be the first hypercar,[18] while others believe the 2005 Bugatti Veyron was the first hypercar.[19]
With a recent shift towards electrification, many recent hypercars use a hybrid drivetrain, a trend started in 2013 by the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 Spyder, and LaFerrari, then continued in 2016 with the Koenigsegg Regera, in 2017 with the Mercedes-AMG One, and in 2019 with the Ferrari SF90 Stradale and McLaren Speedtail.[20][21][22]
Modern hypercars such as Pininfarina Battista, NIO EP9, Rimac Nevera, and Lotus Evija have also gone full-electric.
Hypercars will also be able to be used as a base for Le Mans Prototype cars when rule changes come into effect from 2021.[23]

The Central African Republic (CAR; Sango: Ködörösêse tî Bêafrîka;[needs IPA] French: République centrafricaine, RCA;[9] French: [ʁepyblik sɑ̃tʁafʁikɛn], or Centrafrique, [sɑ̃tʁafʁik]) is a landlocked country in Central Africa. A supercar – also called exotic car – is a loosely defined description of street-legal, high-performance sports cars. Since the 2010s, the term hypercar has come into use for the highest performing supercars. Supercars commonly serve as the flagship model within a vehicle manufacturer's line-up of sports cars and typically feature various performance-related technology derived from motorsports. Some examples include the Ferrari 458 Italia, Lamborghini Aventador, and McLaren 720S.
In the United States, muscle cars were often referred to as "supercars" during the 1960s.

The Lamborghini Miura, produced from 1966–1973, is often said to be the first supercar.[1][2][3][4] By the 1970s and 1980s the term was in regular use, if not precisely defined.[5][6] One interpretation up until the 1990s was to use it for mid-engine two-seat cars with at least eight cylinders (but typically a V12 engine), a power output of at least 400 bhp (298 kW) and a top speed of at least 180 mph (290 km/h).[7] Other interpretations state that "it must be very fast, with sporting handling to match", "it should be sleek and eye-catching" and its price should be "one in a rarefied atmosphere of its own"[8] or regard exclusivity (i.e. limited production volumes) as an important characteristic (such as those made by Ferrari or Lamborghini).[4]
It is also claimed that the definition of a supercar has always been subjective and a matter of blind prejudice.[7]

Since the decline of the muscle car in the 1970s, the word supercar came to mean a car that has high performance[9]: 5 interpretations of the term are for limited-production models produced by small manufacturers for enthusiasts, and, less so, standard-looking cars modified for increased performance.[15]

The ability to build batteries at scale for electric cars is difficult. Only the companies which have established battery supply chains will be able to build EVs at scale, and survive into the future.
An example: If your company can make or secure some number of batteries for EVs. Say that is enough for 350km cars.
You can use that to make 1 full EV car,
if you make plug in hybrids you can use the same number of batteries to make seven 50km range plug in hybrid cars.
You can also also use it to make fifteen 25km range plug in hybrids.
You can use the same amount of batteries to make thirty to fifty hybrid cars.
The right thing to do is make plug in hybrids with a modular battery pack. Such that you can add an extra battery, just by bolting it in. A trickier solution is to have the engine as a generator, and have the deign such that you can remove the engine and install, still another battery.
Some established car brands are big on building hybrids, and a small number of low range plug in hybrids, because they have been unable to secure battery supply chains, or did not think it was important. If customers demand EVs or longer range plug in hybrids. The companies that did not secure battery supply chains, will have to shrink to match their battery supply.
I live in New Zealand, there is a program to tax the sale of inefficient cars and cross subsidise efficient vehicles. This has made EVs US$5,000 cheaper and pick up trucks US$3,000 more expensive. So budget EVs are now in the range that 20% of all vehicle sales were EVs and plug in EVs last month. Note just 0.3% were hybrid cars.
The hybrid strategy is finished. Plug in hybrids were 4% of sales. Traditional hybrids were 0.3% and full EVs were 15%. I think almost all of the plug in hybrids were Mitsubishi 4WD models, for people who want a 4WD. The remainder were MG plug in hybrids which are the cheapest model plug in, which people use for regular commuting, but can still make occasional long trips without the constraints of finding chargers.
I could not find good statistics to separate the used imports and new imports.
