Randall Darius "Randy" Jackson (born June 23, 1956) is an American bassist, former televisionmusic competitionjudge, singer, record producer, entrepreneur and television personality. He is best known from his former work as a judge on American Idol and executive producer for MTV's America's Best Dance Crew. Jackson has won a Grammy Award as a producer.
Personal life
Jackson was born on June 23, 1956, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the son of Julia, a homemaker, and Herman Jackson, a plant foreman. His first marriage, to Elizabeth Jackson, was dissolved in 1990; they had one daughter named Taylor. In 1995, Jackson married Erika Riker, with whom he has two children, a 14-year-old daughter named Zoe and a 12-year-old son named Jordan. In 2003, Jackson lost 114 pounds (52kg) following gastric bypass surgery. He stated in a February 2008 television commercial that he has type 2 diabetes.
Music career
In the early 1980s he played on three albums for Jean-Luc Ponty and with the rock band Taxxi. From 1986 to 1987 he was a session musician for the rock group Journey. Jackson played on Journey's 1986 album Raised on Radio. He moved to Italy in the late 1980s and played on a record by Italian pop star Zucchero. The record, Zucchero and the Randy Jackson Band, was produced by Corrado Rustici who played guitar with Jackson on many albums in the early 1980s. He also played with Billy Cobham.
Steven Randall "Randy" Jackson (born October 29, 1961) is an American singer and musician. He is best known as a former member of The Jacksons. Nicknamed "Little Randy", he is the eighth child of the Jackson family and youngest of the Jackson brothers.
Randy was only three when the Jackson 5 was formed and therefore was not an original member. While his brothers toured, he honed his skills as a musician, mastering piano.
Jackson has two children with his ex-girlfriend Alejandra Oaziaza; Steven Jr and Genevieve. He also has one daughter with his ex-wife Eliza Shaffy; Stevanna.
Career
The Jacksons
Randy first officially appeared live with his brothers at the end of 1971. The event was a Christmas show the Jackson 5 held for blind children. Although he was on every Jackson 5 tour from 1972 forward mainly playing the congas among other instruments, Randy didn't officially join the family band until 1975 when they left Motown Records for Epic Records and older brother Jermaine chose to stay with Motown, prompting Randy to replace him. The Jackson 5 officially changed their name to The Jacksons when they signed with Epic due in part to the fact Motown owned the name The Jackson 5. At the age of 16, he co-wrote The Jacksons' most successful single on Epic, "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)" with Michael. He is widely thought of as the most talented instrumentalist of the Jackson brothers, playing congas, percussion, drums, keyboards, piano, bass, guitar and assorted other instruments. In addition to singing and playing on the Jacksons' recordings, he worked with Michael on his Off the Wall album.
Randy Jackson was born in Lake City, Florida in 1944, and he attended Lake City High School.
College career
Jackson received an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, where he was a tackle for coach Ray Graves' Florida Gators football team from 1963 to 1965. As a senior in 1965, he was a member of the first Gators squad to ever receive an invitation from a "major" bowl, the 1966 Sugar Bowl. Jackson graduated from Florida with a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1968, and was later inducted into the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame as a "Gator Great."
"How Can I Be Sure" is a popular song written by Felix Cavaliere and Eddie Brigati, and originally recorded by The Young Rascals on their 1967 album Groovin'. It became their fourth Top 10 hit in the United States, peaking at No. 4. This was the group's highest charted record with Eddie Brigati singing lead vocals. The song featured the sounds of a trumpet, bass, piano, drums, and strings, giving the feeling of cabaret music as well as a concertina, chosen to add the feel of a French cafe. The songs musical styles include blue-eyed soul and pop.
The lyrics of the chorus go:
The song came out of the experience with transcendental meditation that the Rascals were involved in.
That same year, French singer Nicoletta sold two million copies of the song, as "Je ne pense que t'aimer", the version which subsequently inspired Dusty Springfield's version.
That same year Quebec singer Michel Pagliaro (lead singer of the band Les Chanceliers) released a cover of this song in French ("A Paris la Nuit").
In 1973, he joined Shepards Bush as lead guitarist. It was here that he met Felix Hanemann. Hanemann worked at Jazz City Studios in New Orleans owned by Cosimo Matassa. Shepards Bush recorded a demo at the studio which was Jackson’s first experience in a recording studio. Jackson and Hanemann left Shepards Bush a year later. They soon met drummer Guy Gelso and formed “Zebra” in 1975. It was at this point that Jackson started singing lead vocals. After playing the New Orleans area for two years, Zebra moved to New York (Long Island) in 1977 and in 1982 signed a recording contract with Atlantic Records.
The Chicago Cubs drafted Jackson and on 2 May 1950, the 24-year-old made his major-league début. "Handsome Ransom" had four solid seasons at third base for the Cubs from 1951 to 1955.
Jackson followed up a slow rookie season (in which he had 111 at-bats over 34 games) with a solid second season, in which he hit .276 with 76 RBI and 16 home runs. He struggled again in his third major-league season, his average falling to .232, with 34 RBI and 9 home runs.
Randy Jackson - How Can I Be Sure (1978) Lyrics captioned
In your eyes (in your eyes)
I don’t see me
Not the way I used to
...Not the way I used to
But in my heart
I don’t feel us
You’re just not there anymore
People are talking and it’s got me thinking
They’re saying
Such silly things (such silly things they’re saying)
So why don’t you
Re-assure me
How Can I Be Sure It’s Me, that you love
Baby
How Can I Be Sure It’s Me, that you love
My baby, baby
It’s not in your actions (it’s not in your actions)
Do I still bring you lust? Satisfaction?
Take time and talk to me
I’m the best of you when you’re with me
People are talking and it’s got me thinking they’re saying
Such silly things (Such silly things they’re saying)
So why don’t you
Re-assure me
How Can I Be Sure It’s Me, that you love
